---Riddick Mezzie (SoftServe's Death Island)

*Form unavailable*

I am a wanderer. I am a discoverer of new lands. I am a dreamer who lives her dreams. I am a fighter for whats right. Mostly. Really it shouldn't have been much of a surprise to me when I died tragically at a young age.

Don't cry. It's stupid to mourn the inevitable. If it makes you feel better you'll be dead within 80 or so years too, then we can be dead together. Besides, think of what an adventure being dead must be! I was ready to die and unlike most people, I wasn't afraid to face it as I face it as I face all of my problems; head on and grinning.

I suppose you could say it began when the rich lady decided to be an idiot and take a shortcut through the dark allyway in the middle of the night. I saw her coming a mile away, her pearls and diamonds gleaming in the moonlight as if you say. 'Kill me and rob my dead corpse'. The thought actually crossed my mind as peered over the rim of the rotting blue dumpster that I had chosen to spend the night in.

I, of course, quickly dismissed the thought. I was a good, upstanding, moral citizen of the United States of America who lived in dumpsters and most certainly did not take advantage of stupid people. Though I will admit I was sorely tempted to. Curse my father for hammering biblical principles into my head, I thought feeling my brow furrow in irritation as I watched approximately 6 weeks of fine dining and a couple hotel rooms walk past me. Almost a second after thinking that I felt a little sadness creep into my chest, I looked up at the starry sky. "I didn't mean that Dad. I was lucky I had you. And so is that woman.... I miss you." I whispered under my breath drifting as as light murmur into the woman's ears. My eyes followed her as she paused a second looking around warily for a moment before going back to walking while looking at her phone.

My small period of human emotion was short lived as all of them were. I learned long ago that there was no use dwelling in the past for that was all it was; a shadow that lingers behind you. The future was what you should focus on. My chest hardened as I quickly lost interest in the woman. I was about to lay back down among the garbage when a sharp movement caught my eye instantly captivating my attention.

It all happened so quickly after that, the entire incident fusing into one long muted muriel of time. The shadow leapt out in front of of the woman waving a silver blade that reflected in the moonlight. "Give me your wallet, your jewelry and your phone and nobody gets hurt." Obviously he hadn't had a father that was as awesome as mine.

Before I was fully comprehending what I was doing my feet had launched me over the rim of my dumpster and I hit the ground running. Of course my mouth decided that it just had to say something witty. "The only person getting hurt here is you and your mom's chest hair!" I yelled sending my foot driving itself into his jaw with a sharp crack. I watched his body crumple to the ground with a strange feeling of elation riveting through my body as I stomped my boot onto his wrist causing his hand to release the knife. I picked it up and pointed it at the hooded figure before me trying not to smile at my wonderful kickass moves. The boy looked to only be a couple years older than me when he peered toward us suddenly reduced to a child.

"You crazy bitch!" He snarled looking at if he wanted to run but didn't trust me not to kill him with the knife. I watched his brown eyes flicker from me to the ally behind us nervously.

He quite clearly was having issues in his life, he needed some slack. "Thank you. I try. Anyway I should really call the police." His face paled as the 'P' word hit his ears. "But you really deserve a second chance, man I don't know what you are going through but I know you're tough enough to get through it. You know assuming you don't get into another fight with a 15 year-old girl. So out of the graciousness of my heart I'm letting you go. I hope you turn your life around.... The McDonalds I passed earlier was hiring." I commented as the boy shuffled backwards staring at me in disbelief before he spun on his heel and disappeared into the darkness.

I turned back toward the rich woman who still hovered beside me looking at me as if I was a gump of gum on the bottom of her shoe- a gump of gum that had just saved her sorry life. She pinched her nose and squinted at me. "Thanks." She said without much conviction her eyes scanning my body, her eyes boring into my raggedy clothing and my messy hair.

I shrugged trying to ignore her apparent distaste for me. "No problem. I'm sure you'd do the same thing for me or someone else." I said then instantly regretted my fib. "I lied. Sorry. I don't know you. I guess I should say I hope you'd do the same."

Her face softened and she let out a breath. "I owe you." She shoved her hand in her purse and I felt my heart leap in excitement my mind coming to one conclusion; food. What she placed in my hand was far from the green paper I'd been hoping for. It was a shiney gold ticket. "Here. Its a ticket I won for a cruise. I can't make it because my Daddy is going to an important meeting on the other side of the continent. You might be able to make use of it though." She shrugged.

I looked at it trying to mask my disappointment. You couldn't eat a cruise. "Umm. Is there free food?" I asked raising an eyebrow hopefully at the woman who nodded proudly as if the food was her own personal accomplishment. I grinned and slapped her on the back, "Thanks." I said looking down at the directions printed on the card just visible in the moonlight.

We parted ways, the woman continuing to her posh life and I, Riddick Mezzie, headed toward a new adventure that lay just a few blocks away, an adventure (little did I know) that would lead right into the jaws of death itself.

Man, this was going to be exciting.

And there was free food!
