Revere ~ Help, I'm Paired With A Homicidal Female

Task Description:

The tributes are pursued by Bigfoot as they attempt to survive their first night.

First 20 hours, check! Number 13 and I were on a roll! nothing could stop us now! Really, we only had to survive approximately 12 more days, assuming of course that the games were average length. Most of the time they were, that is why average was average. Really the last 20 hours have been blurry for me... I think it may have had to do with my leg sending shock wave after shock wave of pain through my body.

After reaching dry ground the two of us had limped ashore to examine our wounds from the shark attack 13's looked as if it would heal, mine...? I nearly vomited when I saw it. To keep matters short, let's just say I'm not convinced even the best surgeons in the capital could fix it.

I remember limping through the woods as dusk began to settle in suggesting we camp in a tree, so we would be above the human eye level and, if my studies and cold hard logic were correct, safer as well. She had rolled her lone green eye and informed me she would do anything I like assuming I shut up. I had agreed readily.

We had climbed the tree with much strife, but eventually made it to the top, settling on a thick branch. Carolina- Ax had strapped the backpack to the trunk, then leaned against it and shut her eyes.

I felt really awkward just sitting there so I attempted to start a conversation with Number 13, or Carolina-Ax as you all know her. It felt rather one sided to me.

Me: Carolina-Ax, so, I take it one of your parents liked axes?

Carolina-Ax: Shut up.

Me: Haha, okay then. Well on the subject axes, I notice you are rather good with them. Like almost career good. You're from an outer district as well....

Carolina-Ax: Shut up.

Me: So... Do you like having a patch?

Carolina-Ax: What do you not understand about the words 'shut up'?

Me: I take it you don't like talking very much.

Carolina-Ax: No it's your voice thats the problem.

Dusk came quite quickly, settling in like a blanket over the land. The anthem rung through the arena followed by the faces of number's, 2, 7, 5, 16, 15 and 14. I have no idea what made me look, but my eyes glanced over at Carolina-Ax. She had this utterly forlorn look on her face as she studied the vast expanses of the night sky.

Her sadness spread, reaching the innermost depth of my heart. I wished there was something I could do to make her feel better, even if she did hate me. I remembered overhearing a conversation from inside the mayors garbage can (do not ask) between a young couple. The female was obviously distressed about something or another and the male wanted to make her feel better so he hugged her. The girl smiled sadly and said, "Sometimes a girl just needs a hug. Thanks Brad. That made me feel a little better."

Number 13 obviously needed a hug. Unsure if hugging her would be too invasive due to the fact I didn't know her well I simply put a single arm around her shoulders and squeezed a little. "Are you okay? You look distraught." I said, my voice mirroring my concern.

Trying to comfort a one-eyed ax wielding maniac had been a bad idea, she exploded in a rush of anger, "Get your arm off me!" She yelled pushing me backwards- off the side of the branch. I tumbled in freefall, over and over again my body hitting branch after branch. A shock of pain burst from my leg, I hit the ground and fell into unyielding blackness of unconsciousness.

I couldn't of been out for more than a few seconds though because when I woke up I saw 13 peering at me. I felt a strange feeling of hurt and betrayal well up inside me. I ran through the day's events searching for anything I could have done to deserve this. I came up with nothing. I had been nothing but nice to her- I had tried to make her feel better and she pushed me out of a tree for goodness's sake!

She looked up at the sky and pushed some air through her teeth, "Revere." She said reluctantly, refusing to make eye contact with me, "I am sorry I pushed you out of the tree. Now I am going to pull the twig out of your leg, okay? Try not to scream."

I looked down at my mangled leg in horror, a stick had gotten speared through it, no wonder it sent waves of nearly unbearable pain through every nerve in my body. I felt like crying it hurt so bad- and she the girl who had just inflicted this upon me was going to pull it out? I don't think so."What? No-"

She yanked it free ignoring me completely. A blinding pain bounded through my body. I saw black spots dance before my vision. My head felt light, I felt incredibly nauseous. I might of been screaming, I might of laid there in a unbearable silence I had no idea. The next thing I was aware of was the pain starting to go away.

I looked around for Number 13, I saw her cursing as she slowly hoisted her way back up the tree. I let my head fall back down to the hard earth, letting out a groan. That was the second of utter importance that through the cloudiness of the agony I writhed in, I got an idea.

Carolina- Ax was in a tree. She was concealed by the brush of the branches. Height was a major asset in any type of combat and she had deadly aim with her two axes. It was perfect. I'd set a trap! I'd be the bait and Carolina-Ax would strike the people I lured in down.... Of course Number 13 (who I seriously was doubting my choice of number placement for) had no idea that the plan was taking place.... I would have shrugged my shoulders if I had not been on the verge of blacking out. She would catch on no doubt.

I opened my mouth and began making the noises of a seriously wounded tribute, which was not hard as the fact I was a seriously wounded tribute. It was actually a rather amusing pastime that distracted my briefly from the pain. To my surprise it wasn't a minute before I heard the crunching of twigs rapidly approaching. They were so loud I was positive 13 must of heard them. I increased my tormented screams.

It was the pair from five. Numbers 8 and 20. The female rushed forward raising her bow to take aim- the male? He looked a bit more concerned. He stopped walking completely giving 13 the perfect opportunity to take aim at him. I sent him a wink the second his head was split open by an oncoming ax.

The girl looked upwards in horror and began sprinting the other direction, I saw a ax fly at her but it missed. Well I suppose we couldn't win everything, she was practically dead anyway. I glanced over and saw Carolina-Ax drop to the ground. I grinned at her. "Wasn't that awesome? it sounded really realistic right?"I squealed giddily, completely thrilled with myself. I already knew I was smart, but to find I was a talented actor as well- who knew?! "Go back up the tree and I'll do it again!"

Number 13 raised her eyebrows. This was not a good sign. "You purposely lured two tributes here? Are you retarded?" You got lucky they weren't careers!" She yelled, stomping her foot on the ground. Her head snapped away as if she could not bear to lay her eyes upon the likes of me.

She was furious, she was irrationally furious. Irrational furious behaviour could easily lead to irrational murder. "Please don't kill me." I requested rather politely considering how completely visceral she had been.

She ignored me, yanking the ax harshly from number 8's head, and began storming around quite furiously in search of her other one. I closed my eyes and leaned back once again trying to block out the pain the electrified my body. Number 13 was utterly silent. The only thing I heard was the crunching of brush as she moved around. "I find the silence mildly frightening." I commented uncomfortably.

I heard an unsettling angry grunt followed by "Well you should."

Irrational murder was most definitely brewing... and there was nothing I could do about it. I was snapped from my fears by hearing a loud tree crash in the brush beyond me. I sat up with a start, but instantly laid back down as another wave of pain hit me. "Run! Get up Revere! Run!" Carolina-Ax screamed sprinting towards me. When my eyes focused on what was behind her I needed no encouragement, pain or no pain. It was a large ape like creature that was galavanting through the woods trying to crush Carolina-Ax's head in with large rocks.

I struggled upwards, ignoring the pain. I tried to take a step but collapsed, black spots dancing in front of my vision. I clutched my stomach, I was going to be sick. Carolina-Ax hit me with the force of a train, swinging me over her shoulder. Good Geary she was strong!

I would really like to say I felt better after that, however the thudding of her running only made me sicker, I wasn't one to complain though. I wasn't the one carrying a 150 pound 6 foot male on my back. I watched the ape begin to gain on us, "Faster! He's gaining on us!" I yelled out of nerves more than anything.

I believe you can all guess what Number 13 said to that.

I felt Carolina-Ax begin to speed up, her legs pumping faster. I held my breath she might have a plan... or she might be burning herself out too quick.... I hope it was the first one.

Suddenly we broke into a small clearing lit by a small fire, 13 leaped over the fire and- rather promptly tripped over something. We crashed to the ground painfully in a heap. I resisted the overpowering urge to cry as Carolina-Ax's hand accidently hit my leg. I looked up to see a knife in my face, held by that mildly sadistic kid, number 7. "Oh dear. Would you mind removing that pointy object from my face?" I asked on the slight chance they were up for a bargain.

"Oh thats not going to happen. You wandered into the wrong campsite." He scowled his knife moving closer to my face. I didn't think this kid was necessarily, per say, sane. He had this rather concerning unstable evil look in his eyes.

The knife poked my skin, pressed into my skin, he dragged it downwards watching his blade like an artist with his paint brush, bent on perfection. I was quite afraid to move, it was more than likely I'd end up matching my partner.

His partner number 12 who stood in front of Carolina- Ax shook his head, "Come on Noah, lets just get this over with." Now this was a tribute who was clearly sane.

Number 7 rolled his eyes pressing the blade even deeper. "Whatever." He said, sharing to pull the blade towards my neck to make the fatal blow. If I didn't want to die I had better come up with something quickly- luckily that was my specialty. "Wait. Aren't you wondering why it is we ran willingly into your campsite?" I asked, only to receive another eye roll from 7. He was rather irritating.

"No, not really." Were the last words ever spoken by Number 7. Blood splattered my face as he was squashed by a enormous boulder.

His partner's eyes widened and he ran to confront the beast, he knew he was dead and figured he might as well do down fighting. That provided us with means of escape as Number 13 took off sprinting as fast as she could, dragging me along with her. I heard Jason's final screams as we plummeted through the dark forrest. Eventually she slowed to a stop, shrugging, me off her shoulder. I bit my tongue to suppress a scream. I slowly dragged myself to a sitting position, opening the backpack while she lay panting and removing some gauze from it's depths. I began the painstaking process of wrapping my leg.

"That was brilliant! Distracting Bigfoot with those two buffoons while we escape! Did you think that all up on your own?" I complimenting her, not completely convinced the nights events weren't just random.

She glared at me."You think I can't think up plans on my own?" She snapped beginning to drag herself to a sitting position.

I suddenly felt rather bad. I shouldn't underestimate her. "No. I just-" I started however she cut me off again.

"Shut up. Lets just get up the tree so I can sleep before dawn." Carolina-Ax grunted without much conviction, beginning to hoist herself up the tree behind us. Yes. I didn't like my chances of making it up the tree without suffering from death. I would sleep in the bush.
