Narrator POV / second person POV-
Shock fills you as you hear Janson's voice resound throughout the room. He was saying the names of those who aren't immune. His face, for once, not smug and sneering. Janson almost seemed sad to have to reveal this terrible news. The first name he said tore through your soul.
Oh, wait...
My mistake, I started at the wrong end of this story.
Let's go back to where it began,
THE MAZE TRIALS-
You had been introduced to the Maze a year after Newt, the only girl before Teresa.
Your POV- first person.
I'm standing. That's the first thing I realize as I suddenly jolt to the side, knocked down by the ground shaking and lurching. I collapse to my knees, pain shooting through them, as I vomit the contents of my stomach, which is just some vile liquid that burns my throat. Where am I? Who am I? I question myself as I sit with my back against the wall of this box that seems to be moving
I should be able to remember at least my name, right?! I think with growing panic. I try to calm my racing heart, and try to inhale deeply. The breath catches in my throat, as the sound of grinding gears and squealing pulleys fill my ears, overcoming my senses. I can smell the revolting scent of what I puked up, and it makes me nauseous. I back to the opposite corner, away from the vomit.
My heart is beating erratically, and is pounding so hard that it physically hurts. My head reels and I can't swallow.
I scream, because that is the only thing I can think of to do.
After what I assume to be ten minutes of straight screaming, my throat is so dry and raw that I can't screech my frustration anymore. I pant, still trying to figure out my name. But I draw a blank. I can't remember my family, friends, pets, hobbies, jobs, or my age.
I am nothing as far as I know.
I can remember trees, cheeseburgers, pickles, water, rivers, cliffs and other things like that. I know what 5+6 is, and I know that everything is made of atoms and molecules. But I cannot remember my own name.
Fury rages in me, and I stand up suddenly, turning and punching the wall over and aver again.
Who am I?!!!
I scream again, and slump to the floor, my fist bleeding. I am almost asleep, my eyes straining against the darkness.
But, the box stops.
I quiet my breathing. Where am I? Why did it stop? What's happening? I hear muffled voices, and my heart plummets in fear. I'm terrified. I can't remember a time I have been more scared in my life.
Well, that's no surprise, because I can't remember anything before this.
Light, in all its violent brightness, pierces my eyes, like knives. I squeal and raise my hands to protect myself from the light and from everything else.
I hear voices, what seems like millions of voices, but I cannot make out what they're saying.
"Shut up you shanks!" I loud voice booms, and everyone obeys. I crawl into the corner and hide my head in my hands. Hoping that they will all just disappear, but they do not.
A loud bang sounds as whoever it is lands in front of me.
I whimper and try to hide.
"Hey greenie, come here, I'll help ya up."
I look up hesitantly, and he jolts back.
"You-you're a girl."His reaction has me nervous, and I quickly run through my options.
I can jump him, attack, and hope for the best. Or, I can let him help me out of this cage and attack him then.
He has blonde, ruffled hair, a nice, though dirty, face, soft features, and beautiful lips. His face bears a look of puzzlement.
"Hey Newt, you shuck-head, what's takin' so long?!" Another voice shakes us out of our stupor.
"It-it's a girl!"
"What?!"
"Just wait a bloody second!" The boy in front of me yells, then he turns to me, "Here, I'll help you."
I look at him in fright, and look at his hand, then at his face.
I slowly reach my hand up to take his, tensing my whole body in preparation for what I am about to do.
He smiles as he takes my hand, and I suddenly yank him towards me, moving myself out of the way so that he crashes into the wall.
"Newt, what happened?!" A voice yells down.
He sputters, cursing, as I prepare for my next assault. "She's bloody attacking me!!!"
"What?!" Another boy drops down into the box, and I launch myself at him in fury and fear. His eyebrows are the first thing I notice about him before I slam his face into the wall.
He yells out and sputters curses, as I knee him in the stomach. But, before I can continue the beating, the other guy, Newt or whatever, grabs me from behind. I scream out, and try to kick him. He hoists me up, and I feel dozens of hands pulling me out of the box, and I thrash and squirm as best I can. Their grip is too strong, and soon I find myself wrestled on the ground.
Green grass is underneath me, and twenty or so boys above me. I pant and gaze at everything with wide eyes.
The two boys I fought stand above me, furious.
Everyone looks shocked.
"You were right Newt, it is a girl."
"Of course I'm bloody right! I know a girl when I see one!" The blonde replies indignantly.
"Well, she's a shucking good fighter, I'll tell ya." The eyebrow one says, rubbing his face in pain.
I can't calm my racing heart and the panic hurts me, and I can't find my breath. I-I'm freaking out right now.
I look around frantically, and see four huge walls surrounding the glade-like area. A few ramshackle huts and buildings are scattered around, and in one corner there's a forest.
The boys around me have continued speaking but I can't really hear them.
"I got dibs." One boy says, and that is the one thing I did hear.
That claim seemed to snap me from my dream-like state.
By this point, the boys have stopped watching me closely and they backed away from me.
I snarl, bolt upright, and scare everyone. They yell and jump back and seem to be paralyzed. I turn and run, gaining a ten second head start.
I pant and run, my legs burning, my lungs burning. My head says that I can't escape, but I run and run.
I hear some swears and hear them pursue, and this fuels my flight even more. I reach the trees, and scamper up the tallest one I can find. My arms and legs get cut and sting, but I continue climbing until I collapse from exhaustion.
Luckily, I was only 1/4 up the tree. In other words, I didn't have far to fall. But, I still fell, and it still hurt a lot.
I gasp, winded. I feel like a fish stuck out of water, and, worst of all, I feel trapped.
Thunderous foot falls fill my ears, and I groan. I try to stand up, but give in to gravity. I'm too tired.
All the horrible feelings of fear, of being lost, of being trapped, compress me, and, to my horror, I find myself sobbing into the moss at the base of the tree.
I cry, my already sore lungs heaving in erratic movements.
"Here she is!" Newt, the blonde boy, yells to the others, and this causes me too sob harder.
I can remember this dude's name but I can't remember my own?! How does that make sense?!
"Uh," the eyebrow boy and Newt say, still catching their breath, as I weep.
"What do we do?" Eyebrow says to Newt.
"Why'd you ask me?! I don't bloody know!" He replies, in a beautiful accent that I can't quite place.
By now, all the others have caught up, and stand in an awkward circle around my sobbing form.
"Can you, uh, remember your name?" Newt asks me.
I'm crying too hard to answer him though, but I try to shake my head 'no'.
"Well, this is the Glade, and, uh, this is your new home, greenie."
