The Moon and the Stars

The midday wind was a comfort for Sirius. It had been a while since he could safely be outside. Hidden deep in the woods surrounding Remus' house, he enjoyed the freedom. He lay under a large tree in his human form, thinking. For over twelve years, thinking had been his favourite, and only, way to pass the time. To say his thoughts were happy, would be a lie, although they were comforting yet troubling. 'What if's' were the main ones. Not today. His thoughts were; he was seeing Remus again.

True, he should be at Remus' house later in the day, closer to dinner time, but lack of food and company were taking it's toll on him again; he still hadn't eaten properly yet. And he was in desperate need of a shower.

Sighing, he stood and stretched, his spine cracked loudly. Whistling to himself, he walked in the direction of Remus' house. It only took a few minutes to get there. He knocked loudly on the door and waited. The old Sirius would have pranced in, announcing his arrival in a flamboyant manner. He wasn't that man any more though; he was more cautious and, dare he admit it, scared. Azkaban makes you realize things about yourself you never want to know. As the seconds ticked by, the noise thunderous in his mind, he got a sudden urge to run. Just run.

"Oh, hello Padfoot. I didn't know you would be coming this early." A cheerful voice said as the person opened the door.

Sirius turned his attention to the tired looking man before him. A smile broke onto his dirty face.

"It's great to see you again, Rem." Sirius said, hugging Remus tightly.

"You need a shower, my friend." Remus chuckled lightly as he let go of Sirius and closed the door behind him.

"Sorry for being so early." Sirius said, slightly sheepishly.

"Don't apologies, it's good to see you." Remus said as Sirius sat on the sofa. "Am I right in saying that you are in desperate need of food?"

Sirius nodded. Remus beckoned towards the kitchen. "Eat at your own will. Just leave some for me."

Sirius' eyes brightened. He rugby tackled Remus with a hug, thanking him many times, before he raided the kitchen. Remus smiled sadly. The Sirius before him, in those few moments, was exactly like the boy he had spent the nights down in the kitchen with. Along with James and Peter. Remus knew that he wasn't the same Sirius he had known, it was foolish to even consider it. But he could hope. And look forward to the moments when his mischievous grin would cross his face, the happy twinkle would shine in his smokey grey eyes, and when his loud bark laugh would fill the room with a sort of warmth that only Sirius could bring.

"You alright, Rem?" Sirius asked

Blinking the thoughts of Sirius' features away, Remus looked into his eyes and nodded. "I'm fine, just thinking."

"No. I recognize that look. That's your reminiscing face." Sirius said, dragging Remus to the sofa, sitting him down. "What were you thinking about?"

Remus sighed before saying. "It doesn't matter, Padfoot."

"Yes it does, now tell me. Don't make me lick you!"

"Out of context, that would sound very sexual." Remus said.

"I'm serious." Sirius said.

"I know you are." Remus laughed.

"Wha- you used my joke against me!" Sirius said, his voice high with fake hurt.

"You walked into that one." Remus laughed. "Look, I was thinking about you, okay."

"Me?" Sirius repeated, looking both flattered and worried.

"Yes, you smell like a horses arse and I would deeply appreciate it if you would take a shower so you stop stinking up my house." Remus said, looking Sirius in the eye. "And brush your teeth while you're in there, I can smell a thousand pieces of rotting flesh on your breath."

Sirius gasped dramatically, his hand over his heart. "You've hurt me, Remus, you truly have." Sirius said, nodding sadly. "Now, where is your bathroom since you are so desperate to be rid of my manly odor."

Remus stood and motion for Sirius to follow. Sirius followed Remus up the stairs and down to the end of the hallway where they stopped outside of one of the white doors.

"Bathroom is in there. I already put in another towel and facecloth in there for you, both of which are green. And your toothbrush is the blue one." Remus said. "I'll leave you to it."

"Thank you, Moony." Sirius said, before a slight smile twitched onto his lips. "One more thing."

"What are you-" Remus started, but was cut off when Sirius held his face and stuck his tongue in Remus' mouth in a very aggressive and slightly uncomfortable kiss. Remus managed to break free, red faced as he wiped his mouth.

"What the hell, Pads!" He yelled in disgust, wiping his tongue on his sleeve.

"Enjoy the taste of a thousand pieces of rotting flesh, as you so poetically put it." Sirius laughed as he sprinted into the bathroom and slammed the door shut.

It took a while for Remus to forgive Sirius ... and even longer to get the taste of him out of his mouth. But for the rest of the day, they joked and laughed, almost like they were teenagers again. It was heavenly, forgetting every bad thing that had happened.

That was until, they needed to go to bed.

"I've set up a bed in the guest room for you. I hope it's alright." Remus said, walking up the stairs with Sirius behind him.

They both stood outside the guest room. "I'll be next door if you need anything. Goodnight Sirius, I'm really happy you're here."

They hugged. As they pulled back, Sirius, only after finding his voice again, stopped Remus from going.

"Remus, one more thing." Sirius said.

"You're not going to stick your tongue in my mouth again are you?" Remus said, jumping away in panic.

"No. I was, um ... I was wondering if I could sleep with you tonight?" Sirius said, avoiding Remus' eyes.

"As flattered as I am, Sirius, I need to sleep." Remus said.

"Not like that, Rem. I mean, can I sleep in your room?" Sirius said. "I ... I hate sleeping alone! All those years alone in Azkaban, being left to my own thoughts hasn't been good to my mental state. I can't sleep alone anymore."

Sirius' voice broke slightly at the end. From the hall light, Remus saw tears starting to fill Sirius' eyes; he truly was a broken man. Smiling sadly, Remus nodded and took Sirius' hand.

"Of course you can. There isn't enough room for another bed so you'll have to share with me." Remus said as they entered his room.

"I don't mind." Sirius said as they got ready for bed. "It won't be the first time."

Chuckling, Remus turned off the bedroom lights and lay in bed with Sirius, who then decided to cuddle him. Neither minded about the close and slightly tangled contact. Both the men thought that they had missed having someone to sleep next to. But in actual fact, they just missed sleeping next to each other.

Hi. Long time no see. I have a few other works in the process, but I don't know when they'll be up.

I felt that the song added fits their relationship perfectly at this period in their time. I dunno, Wolfstar instantly came to my mind when I heard it.

It's nice seeing you again.
