The Dark World Pt. 4
Seth and I sit on the sandstone couch and study the translations of the books (that's what they are called). The first one says stuff along the lines of; The sun is made out of mostly hydrogen and helium. It resides around 26,000 million miles from the Milky Way's centre. The sun formed some 4.5 billion years ago when a nebula – dust and gas cloud – collapsed under its own gravitational force. During this, the cloud spun and flattened into a disk with the sun forming in the middle... At around 864,000 miles (1.4 million kilometres) wide, it is 109 times wider than earth, accounting for over 99.8 percent of the solar system's total mass. The sun isn't hollow and is loaded with scorching gases and flowing electrically charged particles called plasma. Its surface temperature is around 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit (5,500 degrees Celsius), and 27 million degrees Fahrenheit (15.5 million degrees Celsius) at its core...
Seth exchanges All About The Sun for The Journey He Took; He quietly walked through the green canopies. The Japanese Cedar trees lurked above him. Careful with his every step. He didn't want to wake the monsters that lurked in the shadows of the forest. His feet crunched against the dead leaves and branches. His trusty sword swung from his hip. The building he'd been searching for came into view... He carefully made his way down the stairwell, occasionally looking back for the non-existent presence he felt. His footsteps echoed through the empty space and the lantern's handle that very much needed an oil creaked with every swing. He finally came to a clearing at the bottom of the stairwell... cracked tiles...
The last one was called All About The Solar System And I skim through it like all the others; Our solar system is located in the Milky Way and consists of stars, the Sun and everything bound to it by gravity. Asteroids, meteoroids, comets, dwarf planets such as Pluto, the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune... Oort Cloud... Sun's heliosphere doesn't extend as far... formed about 4.5 billion years ago... more and more material in. The pressure in the core eventually got so great that hydrogen atoms began to combine and form helium.
Seth is definitely not happy with the All About The Sun and All About The Solar System. "The sun must be such an annoying thing to have beaming down on you all day. And the Solar System sounds stupid," he voices his thoughts.
"I agree. We don't need the sun nor want it."
"We need to chuck these out. It's a sin to own these in the house." A frown forms on Seth's face.
"We don't have to right now," I defend and grab the books and translations from his hand. I smile warmly at him. Seth holds an unsettling glare with me for some time before turning away. He leans back on the smooth round sofa and sighs.
"Sure."
I stand up, placing the books in my room to read over later.
I return back to Seth and take a seat beside him. He wraps an arm around me and pulls me closer to his side. I memorize everything about his cold touch on my skin. His strong, soft fingers and his smooth gentle hand through my hair.
I wrap my arms loosely around his waist and nuzzle into his side. He slightly laughs. "What are you doing?"
"You're cold," I mumble.
"It's cute," he whispers. We stay wrapped in each other's arms for a long time. A few birds cawed outside, fending for survival.
