Maya

Once there was a girl named Maya. She had long, golden hair and bright green eyes that seemed to be made from emeralds.

Maya loved animals, and had several pets. She had a dog, Marvin, two cats, Sophia and Lilly, and a rabbit, Ginger. She also had a few horses; Percy, Annabeth, Fieval, and Luke. She went out every morning to ride them in turn.
Of course, she had the time to do this because she was a princess. The one and only heir of the kingdom of Macedonia.

Her father, the king, used to be a great ruler. But he had died years ago when she was young, and now her mother ruled in his wake.

The queen was fair and just, and a truly great ruler. She always set time aside to listen to the kingdom's needs and take care of each and every one. She would split up arguments, make decisions, and sort things out that needed to be sorted.

While her mother was doing this, Maya liked to go to the gardens and pick fruits from the trees. Then, she would climb up into the highest branches and eat the fruit while watching her mother through the window, dealing with the commoners.

Her mother always scolded her, both for climbing trees, and for picking the fruit.

"A princess should be learning her duties as queen, not be climbing around like some hooligan!" She would exclaim.

After being scolded, the princess would trudge back to her room and cuddle with her pets, which always made her feel better. Then, she would read. Maya loved reading. When she was reading, the book would take her away into a far off place, a place where she didn't have to be a princess or have manners. She could be a sorceress, a warrior, a pirate!

Her mother, of course, didn't want her reading and daydreaming, as Maya always seemed to be doing. She said it was unhealthy and a bad habit for a princess, and a future queen.

So, in a moment of anger and frustration, her mother had all of Maya's books burned.

"I thought you were supposed to be fair and just!" Maya screamed, tears streaming down her olive skin. "You are a  great queen! But a terrible mother!"

When Maya said this, the queen was in shock. She left the room in a hurry and stormed to her own room. Maya threw herself onto the bed and sobbed and sobbed until she could shed no more tears; though her heart was still weary from the loss.

The next morning, Maya packed up a duffel bag of food, clothing, and other necessities.

She would run away, bringing only Marvin and Percy with her.

But that's a story for another time.
