Inner Light
He ran like he'd never run before. The thing behind him neared with every step. His heart beating wildly in his chest, David turned to look behind him. Out of the dark foggy mass, a hand extended, reaching for him. Sucking in a breath, David turned back around, pushing himself to his limit. He pumped his arms as he thundered across the deserted plain.
Just as he thought he could go no farther, the hand gripped the hood of his jacket, yanking him back. David tumbled to the rocky ground, slamming his head on the surface. The inky blackness began to surround him.
"Run Sally!" he croaked, urging his twin sister forward.
Tears threatening to spill, she nodded and continued running from the deadly beast. David searched into the very depths of his being. Reaching toward the last of his energy and will, he spoke his final word.
"BLRAKMIYEV!"
David didn't know where the word came from or how he knew to say it, it had just popped into his head. As soon as the last syllable left his mouth, a blindingly bright flash of multicolored light erupted from David's body. The light attacked the evil, murky darkness.
David could feel his energy draining as the spell caused the tendrils of light to destroy the dark cloud. Suddenly, in a spiral of wind and light, the darkness was sucked up into the sky and disappeared. As soon as the dark cloud was gone, the spiral vanished as quickly as it had come. The light David was causing blinked out, once again revealing the starry night sky. With a final exhale, David slumped back to the ground, shaken and defeated.
"David!" Sally screamed, sprinting towards her brother.
David lay unconscious on the stony plain, quickly fading.
"Please, David! Answer me! Wake up!" Sally cried, her body shaking from the sobs consuming her.
Just as David had done, she reached inside herself, searching for something, anything, to save her dying brother. A word popped into her mind, just like David, and she spoke it.
"XLAOEWLD!"
She shuddered as an icy shill took hold of her. An opaque flower bloomed on David's still chest. It's petals sprayed a shower of sparkling dust onto David's body. Each speck of the dust caused another flower to sprout until Sally could no longer see David. A sonic wave of the dust suddenly extended outwards like a tsunami. The flowers exploded in tiny bursts of pollen, revealing David who inhaled a shaky breath. His eyes fluttered open.
