I'd woken up earlier than usual. My head full of the maths exam I had to sit first thing in the morning, and then straight after that I was due in the heads office for the crime of 'criminal damage'. So what, is chucked Fletcher's CD player out of the window, but it was three am and he was blasting music so loudly I'm surprised it didn't wake the dead. Or at least the deaf caretaker.
Lily Butterfield sat on the edge of her bed, still flicking through pages of maths books as she prepared for the test. Her dark red hair tied back into a neat pony tail with a bring green ribbon. Her uniform perfect as usual.
"I don't know how you can study after last night." I said. I rubbed the sleepy dust out of my eyes and made my way to the small bathroom. "I mean did you not hear that racket?!"
Lily glanced up at me from the book she read, a look of annoyance plastered across her freckled face.
"You know I'm not into gossip and frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."
Sometimes Lily confused me. Who would go to boarding school and not give a toss about the lives and drama's of other girls in your dorm? Not that I could be bothered to say that. Lily was a bit strange to say the least and she was the last person I really wanted to stay and argue with.
I took my wash bag from the basket on my bed and nipped into the bathroom. I washed quickly and changed into my school uniform. After I ran a comb through my hair I was finally ready for breakfast. I grabbed my school satchel and left the room, closing the door quietly behind me.
The corridors of Derbyshire house were busy as usual. Pupils hurrying to get down to the main dining hall for breakfast before the start of lessons and the beginning of my dreaded start of term exam. I walked with speed down the first flight of stairs which took me to the main corridor and then down the second towards the main part of the school building.
The breakfast hall was huge. Several tables were set out nicely, each covered by a cloth of the school signature colour, dark burgundy. After I got my tray of hot toast and jam, I chose to sit in my usual seat by the window looking out at the old oak tree. It brought back memories of stories my father used to tell me of his time at Lincoln, which is where he met my mother. I sat for a while eating my toast and drinking a hot cup of sweet tea. I usually at my meals with Natalie, my best friend, but I couldn't see her.
