The Case of Lucus Fitzgerald
Slowly, Lucus sat down in the cold metal chair, his eyes of the therapist already seated in front of him. He'd argue the chair she was sitting on was far comfier than the one he was given, but he knew how bad the furniture was in this place.
Lucus tested the chains around his wrists to see just how tight they were, with the result being as expected. He wasn't a very trusted patient, being a crazy psycho murderer.
"Do I have to be handcuffed?" he asked the security officer, holding his hands up.
"Yes," the officer snapped back at him.
The woman in front of Lucus raised her hand for their silence. She then shifted her gaze to Lucus, who flinched slightly. The lady seemed way too calm, he was starting to think he'd been given the wrong therapist.
"My name is Doctor Hummond," she informed him, "I'm sure you know why I'm here."
Lucus nodded a little, watching her.
"Do you know why you are here, Lucus?" she asked him, lowering her hand.
"I'm here so you can fix me," he replied, glancing up at the therapist.
"No, Lucus, do you know why you were brought to this place?"
He turned his head away, "They said I killed someone," he told her.
She nodded and leaned forward a little, "Who did you kill, Lucus..."
"I-...I don't know," he replied quietly, lowering his gaze.
Doctor Hummond pushed a picture of a beautiful young woman towards him, causing Lucus to look up again. He reached forward to grab the photograph. He stared at the woman for a good few minutes. Her dark hair flowed around her neck and shaped her face, accentuating her golden eyes. Freckles dotted her face and her exposed shoulders. Lucus swallowed a little, a stone setting in his stomach
"Do you recognise her?" the therapist asked.
Lucus nodded his head slowly as he stared at the picture.
"Do you know who she is?"
He shook his head and put the photo down.
"Her name is Mona Fitzgerald," she told Lucus, "She is your wife."
"Mona..." he whispered, looking back at the photograph.
"Your wife," Doctor Hummond repeated, pulling out another photo.
Lucus frowned slightly, "Is she waiting for me then?" he asked the therapist hopefully.
The doctor handed him the other photo, this one was of a little girl. She looked a lot like the young woman, probably around 3 years old. She had dark hair like Mona's, although her eyes were strikingly familiar.
"Who is this?" Lucus asked, his voice getting shaky.
Doctor Hummond tapped the photograph, "This is your 3-year-old daughter, Angel Fitzgerald."
"What does..." he choked on his words, "What does this have to do with who I killed?"
With a heavy sigh, the therapist pulled out a folder with a white label on it, the label had the words 'Lucus Fitzgerald Case File' written on it in bold block letters.
Lucus stared at it, the stone in his stomach getting heavier as the realisation slowly sank in.
The doctor pulled out some more photographs from the file for Lucus, handing them to him.
Carefully, he looked at the pictures, one by one. They were all pictures of a crime scene, the same crimescene. In a few of them he got to see what he'd been fearing the moment he saw the photo of Mona. The bodies of a young woman and a small girl, both covered in blood. Deep, red wounds covered their arms and necks.
He felt sick, the stone churning in his stomach. Did he really do that? Could he really do that? "They're not waiting for me then?" he whispered
"You murdered your family, Lucus," the therapist told him. Although he'd already figured that part out.
"A-are you sure? Maybe it was someone who looked like me," he suggested desperately, looking for any reason to believe it wasn't him.
She shook her head and played a voice file on her tablet, which had been unnoticed on the table for some time.
'Hello? Hello? I-I need help, they! they need help'
It was Lucus's voice.
'Sir, you need to calm down, who needs help?'
'There's blood everywhere, all over them...all over me'
'Do you need an ambulance sir?'
'They're dead, they're gone, they're not breathing, oh god there's so much blood'
'Sir are you in danger? Who killed them?'
'I did! I am the danger! I killed them, oh god what have I done.'
Doctor Hummond stopped the recording. "You called the emergency number as soon as you did it, you knew then that you did it," she explained.
Lucus stared at the photos, his head starting to throb as tears formed in his eyes.
"You regretted what you did the moment you realised what you were doing...you still regret it don't you?"
"I don't....remember anything..." he replied quietly, "Why would I do that...I loved them, right?"
She nodded, "You did, of course you did."
"Then why did I kill them...why are they dead..." he looked up at her.
"That's what I'm here to help you figure out, so you won't do it again," she told him.
Lucus frowned and looked down again, "My head hurts...I'd like to go back to my room," he said quietly.
