Rikara Redux: Aftermath
The Aftermath
How could this happen. As he sits with his family at the dining table like he usually does but the only difference is the addition of 4 more people. How could his brother do such a thing. An act that he himself feels humiliated. Everytime he sees the sorrow in his new sister in law's eyes he couldn't help but give her a slight reassuring smile. But whenever he tried to do the same to her she would only gaze at him angrily. Life sure was funny. One minute she was venturing into his room late at night and the next she was sitting there throwing daggers at anyone who dared to make eye contact with her. It wasn't rocket science to know the reason for her anger and it was a just one.
"Di I am going to school now."
Seeing her stand up while grabbing her bag that she had set down by her feet he didn't know why but he just wanted her to stay just a bit longer. Reaching out his hand in midair as if trying to hold her back "Wait!"
He could tell that she did not want to turn around just by seeing how stiff she had gotten the moment she heard his voice but the moment she slowly twirled around his heart stopped. She didn't even bother to ask him why he was calling out to her...all she did was stare back at him angrily but also with a tinge of surprise.
"I...can drop you off...Gauri..."
This was the first time he dared to call out her name. Ever since that night he had fantasize about her coming into his room again and wishing that maybe this time he would be smart enough to ask for her name. But who would of thought that things would end up this way.
"That is alright. I can manage."
She didn't even give him the chance to ask again before turning around and walking towards the door. His heart sank as her shadow was no longer in his view and all he could do was look down at his plate and continue eating his breakfast.
During the evening he would patiently wait to see her walk down those stairs to join them for dinner but it was always the same. No one would utter a word and would just quickly try to finish their meal so that they could return to whatever that they were doing but tonight he wanted it to be different.
"So Shivaay...it's been a week since your marriage have you decided where you will be going for your honeymoon?"
"I am too busy."
A sudden *thud* woke everyone up from their trance. Her plate was almost shattered and her food was everywhere on the table. "Too busy?! You are too busy?! But you were so free to force my Di to marry you?!"
Trying to grab her angry sister and gesture her to be quiet to no avail "NO DI!! Everyday living like this?!! I just can't let you live like this!"
"If you don't love my sister then divorce her. So rich and educated yet you do this lowly thing!"
God how much he wanted to kick himself for asking his brother a simple question. Who would have thought that she would be so pissed. Seeing as to how his sister in law couldn't control her he knew he had better get her away from Shivaay before things got out of hand.
Grabbing her hand "Let's go. You need some air."
The anger that she had built up was so strong that she couldn't just stop "Don't touch me!" When she felt how his hand loosened she instinctively looked up only to see his hurtful eyes. Biting her lower lips she turned and left the dining table.
"I will go talk to her Bhabi..you finish your meal."
Seeing her throw pebbles at the small pond in the garden made him feel even more ashamed at his brother's actions.
"Gauri..."
His soft voice was just the same as that day. So deep and husky that it gave her goosebumps. She was too embarrass to look at him right now because she knew she had threw a very big tantrum at the dining table and even vented out on him.
He didn't want to invade her space so he just stood there behind her until he heard her voice.
"I'm sorry."
This was the first time she had talked to him since that night. A big smile was inevitable but he quickly composed himself as he walked up to stand next to her.
"I am sorry."
With pebbles in her hand she could clearly see his reflection in the water. "Sorry?"
"I'm sorry for what has happened."
He could see her clench the pebbles tighter in her hand.
"But don't you wonder why your sister is not demanding a divorce? Have you spoken with her?"
Gauri threw every pebble she had in her hand into the pond "Her tears that day was enough for me to understand! She was suppose to marry Nikhil! But now she...."
He could see her trembling as she recounts the incident and without realizing he had started to pat her shoulder to try to calm her down.
"I know you are angry. I also know that it was wrong of Shivaay but I really do think there is more to the story. Why don't you talk to your sister...maybe then you will understand why she is not fighting to leave."
Gauri knew what he was saying made sense. Maybe it was her fault that she had gotten tired of asking her Di why she was being silent on the matter that she had just given up.
As the days went by she had gotten to know that her very own sister had feeling for her husband. Although she didn't want to get married this way but she couldn't deny that somewhere in her heart it beats for him. Things started to get better as she herself opened up to the Oberois. She found herself talking to Rudra as well as Priyanka. But what she cherished most was that every night she would spend an hour or so chatting with Omkara. Every night after dinner he would wait for her by the pond. She didn't know why but her heart would beat rapidly for every night he would hear her footsteps approach and say "Gauri...you are finally here."
