Not Our Time Part 2
The moment he landed in London he was greeted with dark clouds and a down pour of rain making it harder for him to hail a cab.
"Great!...Just great!"
Trying hard not to get his luggage wet Omkara pulled out a piece of paper that Annika had handed to him before he left.
"This is a copy of Gauri's schedule. She is enrolled at London College Of Fashion. I wish you the best of luck Omkara because my little sister can be....."
"She can be what Bhabi? Tell me so I can better prepare myself mentally."
With a wide smile Annika could only shake her head at her brother in law "I can't really explain it but you will know pretty soon."
"Do you think I am too impulsive? I mean she and I....What am I even saying..there isn't even a she and I. There was never a chance to even have our names linked together."
Running his fingers through his hair in frustration Omkara was having second thoughts.
"She is so young and here I am wanting to intrude in her life. Forget it! It was a stupid idea."
As he was in turmoil he could hear Annika laugh at his dispair.
"Maybe Gauri was right."
Hearing her name perked up his ears "Gauri?"
"She said that the timing was never right for the two of you and maybe it was not meant to be. Gauri might be young Omkara but that does not mean she has no room for love in her life. But if you rely on time alone with no intentions of putting out any effort then the timing will NEVER...EVER... be right."
Gripping the piece of paper and remembering his Bhabi's words Omkara knew there was no turning back. Waving his arm high in the air he finally managed to stop a cab.
"Take me to London College Of Fashion please."
The rain was coming down so hard that the windshield wipers were having a hard time catching up. Looking out the window Omkara could only see blurry buildings and people running for cover.
"Is god really making it hard for me? Even mother nature is becoming an obstacle."
Checking his watch to see that it was already 7PM and that Gauri's last class will end in 30 minutes gave Omkara a bit of time to think of what to say when he would actually face her.
"Will she be happy to see me?"
Omkara could not believe he was being so nervous and fidgety. He wasn't some young man in his 20's anymore but a businessman for heaven's sake. A grown man that is sitting in a cab on his way to woo a college girl who he himself doesn't really know if she will reciprocate his feelings.
"I swear I am my own worst enemy."
He could sit here and find many excuses why he should just turn back and go home but then there's that very one reason that surpasses all his insecurities. And the reason is "Her".
As the cab approaches the entrance of the college where the rain was still hammering down to where the driver himself had to ask "Do you need me to drop you off somewhere to grab an umbrella first?"
"There's no time."
The driver could only sit and watch as the man quickly grabbed his luggage and dashed towards the entrance doors of the university."
When Om finally reached the inside of the university he was already dripping wet leaving water droplets all over the floors. Not wanting to much unwanted attention he quickly found a nearby bathroom where he went to dry himself as much as possible.
"Only 10 minutes left!"
Yanking down a handful of paper towels Omkara tried his very best to dry his drenched hair as well as his shirt but one look in the mirror he knew it was just a futile effort on his behalf.
"Forget it!"
Leaving the bathroom with paper towels scattered on the floor Omkara started to walk towards the department that Gauri would be attending her last class for the evening. He could see from across the garden that the students were already released and that he needed to hurry but as he kept looking from a distance he saw her. He could even hear her laughing with what seems to be a small group of friends. As his heart started to pound faster and faster and steps started to increase as well but when he heard a males voice calling out her name he quickly hid himself behind a pillar.
"Hey Gauri!"
"Arjun?"
"Let's grab a bite."
As her friends looked at her in envy Gauri could only dish out that fake smile of hers "Are you paying for all of us?"
Seeing Arjun rub the back of his head Gauri knew that he wanted to just ask her out for dinner alone but she had no time in leading the poor boy on.
"Ah...I was just wanting to have dinner with just you Gauri."
From behind a pillar was a man whose heart had just taken a huge blow and is now trying his best to size up the competition.
"So he's tall, young and sort of good looking..so what."
As her friends start to tease her while encouraging her to accept Arjun's invitation Gauri could only smile and reject him like she did every guy since the day she stepped foot in the university.
"I'm sorry Arjun. I cannot go out to eat alone with you. I have promised my family that I am here for school and nothing else."
"But I've heard from you friends that there was an exception."
Glaring back at her friends Gauri could only let out a sigh "Yes. There is such a thing but Arjun you are not my "exception."
Seeing the young man unable to accept it Omkara could only stand in the shadows and rejoice that there was some kind of condition put in place.
"Why didn't Bhabi tell me what the exception was?"
"Gauri! How would you know if you don't give me a chance?"
"Because...that chance is given to someone else already Arjun."
"Who?! You have rejected practically everyone in this department. Who is it."
Even Omkara was trying to lean in closer to listen to Gauri's answer but then it happened.
Gauri felt one of her friends pull on her arm "Hey Gauri. There's some creepy guy staring at you behind that pillar."
When he saw her honey brown eyes look straight at him he had forgotten how to breathe.
"She saw me."
