another face
I knew a girl.
A girl with blonde hair, the shade of sand on a sunny day, blue eyes that were warm and deep, just like the ocean. Her skin tan like she sat in the sun for hours on end and she carried the faint scent of salt,
She didn't belong in the bustling city, filled with dark, looming skyscrapers and buildings. Dry and dusty, a chilly breeze and the sun often shut out by the tall stores. The smoke hiding the stars away from our gazes. She was like a tiny, shred of sunlight, peaking through stormy clouds on a rainy day.
I knew she wanted to get out of this wretched city, the sound-track of cars beeping and the loud growls of motorcycles weren't very pleasing to listen to unlike the gentle crash of waves.
I knew she wanted to get out but her wallet was light, so I saw her when the sun hid away and the moon shone dimly behind a thin sheet of smoke. I saw her after the hours of her dead-end McDonald's job standing at the back of an old motel with flickering yellow lights, grimy, cream white walls adorned with spray paint.
I saw her offer herself to a man.
I knew a girl with blonde hair, the shade of sand on a sunny day, blue eyes that were warm and deep, just like the ocean. Her skin tan like she sat in the sun for hours on end and she carried the faint scent of salt, and the next thing I knew she turned into another face on the Missing list, hanging on the crowded bulletin board in the police station.
