Cafe (Skysolo AU)
(This AU is a modern Skysolo AU where Luke is Deaf. Just as a note, I am not part of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing community, so I have simply tried my best to portray Luke as best I can. If there is anything incorrect, please correct me)
Luke sat in the corner, reading his graphic novel as usual. His sister had already waltzed up to the counter and demanded their order. He tapped his fingers softly against the table as he read, self conscious about the volume. He couldn't tell.
Luke looked up abruptly as the page of his book was shadowed by someone standing at the end of his table. He shot a curious glance at the guy, who was tall and had more confidence than he should. The guy seemed to feel Luke's gaze and turned around, smiling slightly. No. It was more of a smirk. He started saying something and Luke leant forward, desperately trying to read his lips but to no avail. The guy was too mumbly and they had never met.
Leia seemed to know him, Luke thought as he watched his sister carry their order back to the table with perfectly stable hands. She placed her drink on the table, the usual iced americano. It was all she ever ordered, rain, hail or shine. She placed his order, a caramel frappe right in front of him, all the while giving the guy a mildly amused glare.
'What does he want?' Luke signed, feeling a little self-conscious that the guy was still standing there.
'Not sure. I told him to go away, he's a jerk from one of my classes.' She signed back. Luke nodded, sipping his drink after putting down the book. He had his sister to talk to, much better than the current volume of his novel. It seemed like she always had something to say, usually about something or someone. This guy, the assumed jerk, seemed to be no exception. She kept going on, purely in sign, about how this guy never showed up to class and other such damnations. She even swore that he liked her. Luke smiled throughout the whole thing, still sipping his drink. The guy walked off eventually, admitting defeat, Luke supposed.

He sat in the same spot as usual, waiting for Leia's politics class to end so that she could meet him here. Though the staff already knew them well, Luke still didn't like going up to order, it just made him uncomfortable.
Turning the next page in his book, he sighed. She was running late by thirty minutes at this point. He'd sent her five messages and was seriously fighting the urge to just leave. But, he'd promised and Leia would never let him live it down if he wasn't there to meet her.
He was startled out of his reading by a tap on his shoulder. Glancing around quickly, he didn't see anyone behind him. As he turned his head in confusion, the same guy from last week, and the week before, and the week before, slid into the chair opposite. Luke pulled out a pen and notepad, writing quickly, Leia's not here.
The guy nodded, writing back, I know.
Luke furrowed his brows in confusion. Then why are you here?
The guy laughed before raising his hands and signing slowly. 'Hot Chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream, right?' Luke nodded, a little dumbstruck. Since when had this guy learned sign?
He slowly asked, 'What is your name?'
The guy scrunched up his face a little, thinking hard. Luke began to write on the page when the guy stopped him, saying something.
'I'm Han.' He fingerspelled. Luke's chin dropped to the table, he covered his mouth quickly to hide his embarrassment. Had Han learnt sign just to talk to him? 'I'll... be back. Yeah?' Han continued. Luke nodded in understanding, still trying process what he was seeing.
A minute later, Han came back to the table with Luke's usual order, just the way he liked it. He covered his mouth with his hand, hiding his embarrassed smile as Han put the drink down.
He reached over the table and gently pulled Luke's hand away from his face.
'I thought it would make you happy!' He signed slowly, as Luke nodded fervently. 'And I wanted to ask,' Luke leant forward, 'if you wanted to go on a date with me?' He signed, his hands shaking slightly.
'YES!' Luke signed back. It was the first time he'd ever been asked out!
Han looked up, only for his expression to change from pure happiness to slight fear. Luke looked behind him. Of course. Leia was standing right there, tapping her foot. Han began to talk quickly from what Luke could tell, seemingly defending himself with wild hand gestures. Leia's glare broke into a grin. She turned to her brother.
'So this is the reason that this loser's been bothering me. So he can ask out you! It all makes sense now.'
'Really? That's why he was a jerk and a bother?' Luke signed.
'Yeah.' Leia nodded.
Luke wrote down on paper, My sister is just explaining why she doesn't like you, scruffy looking. Han looked a little offended, but Luke continued writing. Here's my number. Text me for that date.
He looked up at Han with a sweet smile, before taking a gulp of his twice-as-sweet hot chocolate. Perfect for a cold day.
