Chapter 5
Sherif had had a terrible week since the newbie detective had come to town. These federal agents, thought themselves too smart and he hated the arrogant swagger.
Though, the lad had been right about one thing, it was no accident. There was indeed foul play involved but this was a small town, you couldn't go and blame anyone without concrete proof.
He was scowling as he thought of his problems, when another one entered the station: Holly K, followed by the detective and both were in deep conversation.
Holly K was pretending as if she hadn't spent most of her childhood here. Assault, Underage drinking, drugs, public indecency all had come as a part and parcel of being one of the populars. It was a small town and the only thing you needed to become an alpha was looks and money, both of which she'd inherited but then these had been one of the reasons that she'd felt as if this town was sucking the life outta her. This and the two men who were looking at her as if she was the ghost of their past.
Sheriff Harrison Giles was a man of fifty but he didn't look a day over thirty five. The salt and pepper hair along with that easy smile which was reserved for all but her made her likeable.
Looking at him she felt tears streaming down her ashen cheeks. He was the man who'd helped her when even his mama had left her.
He was the one to put Mike behind bars and send her to the city so that she could get away from this town which bleached the spirits of youth like it had done to his son Matt.
Beside him stood another man, much younger than him. Deputy Harvey Cole looked at her with absolute hatred but then she probably deserved it.
She could feel him shaking like a leaf with fury. His eyes accusing her like they did the day she was leaving. 'It's all your fault, you bitch!'
"Hmm...hum" someone cleared their throat. "I didn't know Holly that you were such a ditz." He said we h a chuckle. The only reply he got was her huffing and stepping on his foot.
"If you insist to treat me like a criminal for this murder," she spoke to Walker with venom and then turned to the Sheriff "I'd at-least like to have my own seat."
She smiled sweetly at the three men, telling them 'I'm here to play.'
