Dorothy 'Dotty' Nolan sat in her living room listening to her father talk endlessly on the phone to many different people due to him being the director of a new film that was yet to be filmed. He was discussing the casting with the casting manager and then where filming would be and other dates and statistics, simply a load of waffle to his daughter. She had been waiting three hours for her friend, Anna to reply to her text message about what was happening.
Her father was taking Dotty along to the filming of his movie as she needed to 'get out of the house more'. Even though she hardly was in the house at all.
This meant that she had to tell her friend so that she didn't ring her up at stupid o'clock to discuss what she wanted her and Dotty to do that day. You see Anna, didn't care what the time was or if Dotty was busy, she just phoned her or texted her whenever and wherever she was. And to be frank whilst being in France, Dotty didn't what to rack up her phone bills.
Text message:
Sorry, I think you have the wrong number I am not Anna.
Dotty:
I'm so sorry. That must be why I haven't got a reply. It's weird I didn't even type in her number, it's already saved. She only got a new phone yesterday.
Text message:
Aha, it's alright. You may have saved her number wrong. I'm Fionn by the way.
Dotty:
I'm Dotty, I'm sorry again. It was nice to accidentally text you, I guess.
Dotty saved the boy's name into her phone for some strange reason, deleting it as being Anna's, even though she knew she would never need it because they would never message again. Or so she thought.
Fionn:
Nice name. Like I said it's fine. It would be nice to talk to someone new.
Dotty:
You want to continue to text?
Fionn:
Sure, I mean, it's not like we know anything else except each other's first names and number. It's like we met in a club.
Dotty:
That's true. So how's life Fionn?
Fionn:
It's life I suppose. Has it's ups and downs. What about yours?
Dotty:
The same to be honest. Very hectic some of the time XD.
Fionn:
What are you doing? Like currently, if you know what I mean.
Dotty:
I'm texting you, eavesdropping on my dad's phone calls, unintentionally (he is in the same room as me) and watching youtube. I don't know how I started watching music videos now I am onto how to make ice cream. You?
Fionn:
Texting you and responding to emails and phone calls, because the popular life chose me... I'm kidding it's a job I have recently got there is a lot of I don't know what to call it, backing information? Does that make sense?
Dotty:
Perfect sense. Question, how old are you?
Fionn:
20. You?
Dotty:
19. Not gonna lie, my dad's conversations are so serious I want to laugh at the face he is pulling but I know if I do he'll probably get mad at me due to his seriousness.
Fionn:
Don't laugh then.
Dotty:
Great advice that is.
Christopher, Dotty's father, glanced up from his laptop that he was looking at information on and some papers to see her grinning at her phone. He knew it wasn't her friend Anna on the phone because she would never grin like that. In his eyes, that meant that she was messaging a boy. He heard her chuckle under her breath and glance up at her dad before instantly looking back down and neutralising her face. Christopher shook his head before continuing on with his last-minute checks, they would be heading off to France early the next morning.
He finished up his calls before turning to his daughter, "Have you packed Dotty?" He asked and instantly her eyes widened, she shook her head and ran off up to her bedroom in a hurry.
Flinging her phone down she ignored the newest message from her new friend (if you could call him that) and tugged out a suitcase from under her bed. She opened her underwear drawer and flung all of the underwear she could into this suitcase, including a couple of swimming costumes that her father told her to pack as they would be mainly filming on a beach and after filming she could simply chill out on it. She moved onto socks and t-shirts along with jeans, sweaters, hoodies and other items she might have needed. She didn't bother with any hair appliances except a hair dryer as she didn't care too much of her hair and could throw it up into a bun or a ponytail quite easily. Once packing a few pairs of shoes and a spare raincoat, planning to wear a parker jacket over her clothes in the morning,
Her phone kept dinging as she hadn't checked for the message from Fionn but she was in too much of a frantic panic to answer. She emptied her rucksack and slipped her chargers, except her phone as she would put that in there in the morning, along with a toiletry bag that she would add in the morning. Sighing, she slumped on her bed out of breath due to her frantic-ness. Looking at her message she replied apologising for taking a while.
Fionn:
It's all good. Nice answer, I liked History as well at school.
Dotty:
Sometimes I got annoyed at it though when it came to learning about the wars.
Fionn:
Why?
Dotty:
We didn't learn about the women of war, except for those who took over men's jobs and knitted and sewed things. We didn't learn about those who risked their lives by going on hospital ships to tend to the injured or those in the trenches who helped as well. We only learned about those at home.
Sorry, that was a bit of a rant.
Fionn:
Stop apologising for things, I agree with you totally. It's a bit ridiculous. Women did so much in the war that isn't recognised. What do you doing for a living?
Dotty:
I am about to start a new job, I used to work in McDonald's. I will be helping out on film sets. I will clean up loose props and rubbish left over after takes. I also will help with costume and makeup, if an actor needs a little touch-up on their makeup or their costume is a bit, I don't know, crooked etc. I will have to sort it out.
Fionn:
That's awesome! How do you know exactly what you will be doing though?
Dotty:
My dad is kind of the director.
Fionn:
That's so cool!
Dotty:
It had its downsides, my dad is away a lot. But now I'll be with him.
Dotty and Fionn spent hours messaging each other about random complete rubbish. It got to the point when it was ten at night and her father came in to tell her that she best be getting to sleep because of the early start. She bade Fionn goodnight before plgging her phone into charge and laying down waiting for sleep, becasue she is not like a mvie character that can sleep as soon as she shuts her eyes.
Little did she know that Fionn was doing something similar because of his early start.
