Chapter 3
Eloise snapped the door closed, locking it behind them. June booted up her friends laptop, putting on Dear Future Husband by Meghan Trainor to full volume. None of them wanted to be heard.
"Everyone's going to be ready then?" Eloise demanded, clasping her hands behind her back.
June nodded, pushing open the door to the closet. "They should be."
Marly threw herself onto the bed, the mattress groaning under her weight. "Why do we always have to wear our masks?"
"To keep any survivors from retaliating on us. It's been a standard rule since my grandpa was murdered in cold blood because he purged and didn't wear a mask. The survivors knew his face. Now, we're careful about it." Eloise shrugged and crossed her room to the closet, sifting through the clothes.
"Eloise!" Natalie screamed over the music, her pounding shaking the door. "Let me in! This is my room to!"
Marly jumped up, rushing to unlock the door. Natalie and Raven barged in, each holding their masks this time. Marly shut the door behind them and stood in front of it, her arms crossed.
Eloise pulled out a hanger, turning towards the girls. "Sorry, I forgot."
Natalie rolled her eyes. "Whatever." She scoffed. "What am I supposed to wear?"
"Anything you want." Eloise mumbled, peeling off her clothes to change.
"What do we use?"
"For what?"
"Killing. What else?"
Eloise froze and turned to look at her little sister, trying to decide how to form the words she wanted to say. "That's not for me to answer. Just use what feels comfortable to you."
Natalie nodded and sat down on her own bed with Raven. "Alright."
Eloise finished her changing and crouched next to her bed, reaching under it and pulling out a backpack. She pulled it open and dumped the contents. An assortment of knives, hammers, all hand held weapons besides guns spilled on the wooden floorboards.
Eloise sat back on her heels. "Alright girls, take your picks. We're leaving at six."
"Six? But that's an hour before purge." Raven exclaimed, drawing her eyebrows together.
Eloise nodded, running a finger across a blade of the dagger she held. "Yeah, well we need to be somewhere to be able to start."
"Start?" Raven asked nervously, her voice shaking.
Eloise looked up at Raven, her actions freezing. "You'll see." She grimaced a smile at her and returned to studying the dagger.
Eloise glanced at her phone. They had ten minutes before leaving and she needed to speak with Adam before disappearing into the night. Standing against the wall, her arms crossed, she stood watching him, bent over a display of guns that had been placed on the table. She couldn't help it, the feelings that twisted through her veins. He made her insides squirm, loving every aspect of him. He made her want to go up and wrap her arms around him and never let go. He made her ache to hear his voice, desperate for him to speak her name. She craved his touch, wanting his fingers to run along her flesh, making her insides tingle. Skylar was the first to glance up, taking notice of her. He nudged Adam, nodding in Eloise's direction. Adam rose his eyes, catching hers.
Her breath caught, mesmerized by him. He was gorgeous, if a man could be. Something about the way he moved, the way he spoke, the way his eyes smoldered while looking at her. His crooked smile made her knees weak when flashed at her, just as it was at that moment. Eloise raised a hand, beckoning with one finger for him to come closer, to follow her as she turned and moved down the hall. His room was the first on the right, the door wide open. She slipped inside, going and sitting on the bed, leaving back. Adam entered a moment later and swooped down on her, kissing her hungrily. She reached up, pushing him back.
"Adam, don't." She warned reluctantly.
Adam held up his hands in defense. "Woah. Normally you want that, I just assumed. I'm sorry."
Eloise shook her head, running her fingers through her ebony hair. "I know. I just-I need to talk first."
