30. Void's Accismus

Guardians

Description: Guardians are a creature that lives in the sea. They often live in groups, each one containing a temple at the center of their cities. Similarly to Vexes, each group is apart from the others. One difference though, is that Guardians have leaders for each group, known as Elder Guardians. They reside in the temples, attended to by the lesser Guardians.

Most notably, they are able to turn any block into prismarine. This means they can either strengthen or weaken structures. In case of fighting against a Watcher's obsidian, for example, it would do them good to weaken it into prismarine. They can also give others certain status effects, most famously mining fatigue.

Powers: Fatigue/sleep/other status effects, turn things into prismarine,

Colors: Teal

Lifespan: 200 (2:1)?

Location: Ocean monuments

Leader: Elder Guardians

Hybrids: Merlings. When they are exposed to water for a continuously long time, they may grow fins, gills and other fish-like features. If they stay mostly on land, they come to look just like a human and thus it's possible that someone could think they are a human when they're actually a merling. Even if they are separated from water for their whole lives though, they often are drawn by it. Their only power is underwater breathing. Their lifespan is 100 years, so the same as a human.

Only one more to go! After that, I'll be adding a new thing to these ANs for a bit. It's something I've wanted to do for awhile, so I'm really excited to get to it! I'll keep it as a surprise until then, though. ;)

After being in the Void for an unknown amount of time, Xelqua found himself sitting beside the illusion of Miesall. An endless blackness surrounded the two of them. They sat on top of it, swinging their legs back and forth. They sat their in a comfortable silence for awhile

The personified Void ('Miesall') was the first to act, turning its head to the Watcher. "Why do you stay here?" It asked. "I have allowed you to leave many times but you do not... why?"

Xelqua only tilted his head as he looked over at 'Miesall.' "Well, because you're here." He replied, going to take its hand. He squeezed it, but the illusion didn't squeeze back.

The Void, instead, turned its face away. It nodded slightly. "To lose someone dear to you is a very painful thing indeed." it agreed. It took its free hand and covered it's masked face as tears began to spill over. "I am the same, I suppose."

Xelqua found himself looking away as well. He knew this wasn't Miesall, and yet holding its hand like this gave him comfort. "As long as I have him, I'll be alright." he admitted, moving to bring his knees up and hug them with his free hand.

The Void allowed itself to remain there with him for a long time yet again. Still, it knew that Xelqua(or Grian, whatever he was named,) needed to get out of here.

For the infinity that it had lived and will live, it found its own existence comforting and... imprisoning. In a different time (which to it was happening at the same time in its eyes), it was cherishing it's own lover. That was the same as what Xelqua was doing with it now; only this time it was a friend.

Still, the price had to be paid. To infinitely live out your joys was to also infinitely live out your sorrows as well. The Void had often wondered if, given the chance, it would give up its infinity and just be... finite, like humans were. Like humans were supposed to be, not like this one was now.

Grian was much like him, the Void couldn't help but notice. No one wanted to be in the Void; it was a punishment if not a foolish mistake. There were only two in all of history that would remain, to cling onto this place. To be willing to stay for all of eternity.

Its lover was one. Grian was the other.

If the Void hadn't been infinite, perhaps it would've wondered if it could have found a similar companionship with Grian as it had its lover.

But alas, it knew it's time with him was drawing with a close in the fleeting time humans called 'present.'

The present was a fickle thing. It was a singular moment that moved through the map of time. The Void sometimes paid it attention, other times not. This time, it did.

To the Void, the present was a point in a map. To describe it in a way that players might, the present was at the very center of the world — 0, 0. It could always be visited of course, but there was an infinite world awaiting to be interacted with in all directions. And so, the player is seldom at this single point, though they can go see it at any time. The difference here was that the Void could touch all points in time; it was just a matter of what it was focusing most heavily on.

"Do you intend to stay with me forever, then?" It asked, forcing itself to look back at the Watcher. It felt nice to nearly drown in the present, to act as though it hadn't heard the answer a hundred billion times already.

Xelqua found that he could not answer that question easily. "It would be nice..." He admitted. Although daunting, truly staying here forever wouldn't be so terrible he realized. For better or worse, it would mean that he would get to be with Miesall; he'd just have to be reminded of his death and have his heart ripped right out of his chest every now and then. He deserved that though, for what he had committed.

The illusion couldn't help but miss him already. Being surrounded in a tailor-made cage of pain, loneliness and sorrow was dreadful; it was nice to have a bit of company. Knowing the future though, the Void had already said goodbye. It only nodded before pausing and shaking it's head instead. "This is no place for a player; for any creature, in fact." It had said those words too, to its lover. This time, though, it would ensure that Xelqua heard them, that he would leave.

Xelqua was almost taken aback, but he didn't say anything. He knew the Void was right about that. It of all creatures would know after all. "But Miesalt--." he began.

The creature only shook its head, squeezing his hand at last. It's snow white curls began to unravel and grow as they turned as black as the area surrounding them. It only stopped growing when it was as long as the body of the illusion, which had grown to be more feminine. 'Her' clothes turned from the robes that the Watchers wore to a dress that was layered almost like a dark storm cloud. The Watcher mask was gone, replaced instead with two eyes which looked to hold galaxies within them. "Is gone." she finished.

Tears welled in Xelqua's eyes all over again, like they had already a hundred thousand times. The couldn't help but let out a sob out, wishing that void would go back to playing the part of his dearest friend. He was tempted to ask, but he already knew the answer. "Tell me..." he demanded instead. "If... if I leave you... will I ever know happiness again?" He asked, knowing that the Void knew all time.

The personified Void frowned. It knew the answer, but it could not say it; it wasn't how this was supposed to go. Instead, it spoke riddles; it was the closest it could tell Xel without ruining everything. "You will have many champions surrounding you. You always have, and you always will. Just not now."

Xelqua frowned, unsure of what this meant. He decided that champion must be Watchers; they were always there, but not in the Void. So many Watchers, just not Miesall. He couldn't help but let out another sob, reminded once again of his friend.

But that was not what the Void had meant. "One day, you will understand, but for now, you must return to the Watchers. The champions are all waiting for you." The friends he was destined to have. To tell him directly though, the Void knew, was to rob him of them. Regretfully, there was nothing else the Void could say or do other than to get Xelqua out of itself.

The edges of the Void waxed and waned, white at the edges of it.

Xelqua only shook his head, hugging his sides. "I'm not ready yet!" He exclaimed, drawing into himself. His wings laid on top of his arms like a blanket or a shield, to hide himself from the undeniable truth.

"Yet it is your time nonetheless." Void replied, its voice surprisingly gentle. The white was continuing to eat away at the black, the Void receding. "For you whose consciousness is trapped in a singular moment, the 'present', you are blessed and cursed to move away from the the past. It is time that you do that now."

Xel opened his mouth, about to yell and protest. He couldn't forget about Miesall; he wasn't yesterday's news. It was his dear friend. It was his one bit of light.

He never got a chance to, the Void at last forcefully pushing him out, back into reality.

You know, in writing this, I kind feel sympathy for the Void? Like what it does isn't right, but it's better than the Vexes and such that have no excuse.
