Chapter 32: The Order of the Phoenix

It was only a few days after Cedric's visit to the Heart family's home that Altair announced that they wouldn't be staying there any longer — at least for the summer. Analeigh was all sorts of confused, but it all seemed to make sense once he explained that none of them were truly safe anymore, especially those involved in the Triwizard Tournament and whoever was close to Harry Potter. That was when Analeigh learned about the Order of the Phoenix.

The Order of the Phoenix was a was a secret organization established by Albus Dumbledore in the 1970s to oppose Voldemort and his followers. It consisted of many notable individuals back then, from James and Lily Potter to Alastor Moody and Elphias Doge, and now, it included people like the Weasleys and Analeigh's own parents. She realized that this must have been part of what Altair was telling her the day he revealed his past — these were the people he chose to help instead of staying on Voldemort's side. While Analeigh still found it unsettling that he was once a Death Eater himself, she was proud that he had helped the Order and grateful that Dumbledore accepted him.

That was how Analeigh found herself standing in the middle of a street somewhere in London in between her parents, staring at a row of muggle houses and nothing special in sight.

"So..." she began. "I thought we were going to the headquarters of the —"

"Shh," Grace said, nudging her daughter. "Not out here."

Then, Altair handed Analeigh a slip of paper from his pocket.

"Read it," he said. "Remember it, but don't say it out loud."

She eyed it strangely but took it from him anyway and unfolded it.

The headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix may be found at number twelve, Grimmauld Place, London.

When she looked up, her jaw dropped. A house had magically appeared in between the buildings of number eleven and thirteen, pushing them to the side as if it was no big deal. The neighbors didn't seem to notice what was going on as the number 12 building expanded until it reached its full width and height. Even after growing up with magic her whole life, there were still a lot of things that surprised her in the wizarding world.

Altair and Grace ushered their daughter to side the house as soon as it had fully settled in. Analeigh could see that it belonged to a very rich family — the antique decors in every corner, detailed portraits hung around, and the mere fact that it was massive, probably around four floors if she guessed correctly. However, it was quite dark and eerie, a sharp contrast to the coziness of her own house or even the warmth of the Hogwarts castle. It also looked very dusty as if nobody had lived inside it for ages.

"I'll head to the kitchen for a while," Grace announced. "Molly's been expecting us."

"The Weasleys are here, too?" Analeigh perked up.

"Yes, and Hermione, as well. Altair, why don't you show her around? You know this place far better than I do."

Grace left their side and walked down the hall elsewhere, and it was so dark that Analeigh wasn't even sure where she had gone. Before Altair could even begin his tour of the house that was all-too familiar to him, another voice rang out.

"Altair!"

A few feet away from them stood Sirius Black. Analeigh only saw him once in their third year, which was after Ron was bitten by a large black dog and she had tried helping him. She didn't achieve much aside from being held hostage by the mass murderer — or so she thought he was. It turned out that he was innocent, and she had ran to Professor Dumbledore for help after leaving the Shrieking Shack right before Professor Lupin transformed into a werewolf and the real chaos began. Her actions caused Harry, Hermione, and Ron to warm up considerably towards her, and the rest was history. It seemed that near-death experiences created pretty tight friendships.

Sirius was no longer dressed in dirty, gray clothes nor did he have greasy, unruly hair. He was much cleaner now, and looked healthier than Analeigh had last seen him.

"Ah, Sirius," Altair beamed as if they had known each other for a long time. Analeigh raised her eyebrows, wondering if they did. All her father said was that he knew Sirius Black from school, and that Dumbledore had explained to him the full story of his innocence and Peter Pettigrew still being alive. He, along with Ron's parents, were one of the few who were aware of it because their children witnessed everything firsthand — from Sirius's explanation to Pettigrew's transformation back into a human.

"And Analeigh, correct?" Sirius said kindly. He also seemed much less frightening as opposed to when he first broke out of Azkaban. He was so angry and desperate back then that it was so easy to perceive him as the dangerous criminal everyone thought he was.

"Yes. It's nice to see you again," she said politely.

"If I had known from the start that you were Altair's daughter, I would've let you join Harry and the others during our secret meet-ups last school year!" Sirius chuckled. "Oh, well. At least now, I finally get to meet the daughter of my co —"

"Coworker," Altair interrupted, catching Sirius off guard. "We go way back. We were even in Hogwarts at the same time."

Sensing that Altair was hiding something, Sirius went along with it.

"Oh, yeah. We did, but he was a Ravenclaw. I'm surprised it wasn't a big deal that he wasn't a Slytherin, either, but I suppose me being put in Gryffindor was even worse to the family."

"Why would not being in Slytherin be a big deal?" Analeigh asked, puzzled.

"Nothing, nothing," Altair laughed it off. "It was a big thing in Sirius's family, though wasn't it?"

"Oh, right," Sirius grinned sheepishly at Altair who sent him a knowing glance. "My family was into the whole purebloods being superior kind of thing. They believed Slytherin was the best, so you can imagine their outrage when I had been sorted into Gryffindor instead."

"Well, Gryffindor is the best," Analeigh said with a hint of humor.

"She's smart," Sirius nodded in approval, causing Altair to roll his eyes.

"I'd love to go into a debate on why Ravenclaw is the best, but I think Analeigh should go up to her room here and unpack."

"Of course," Sirius agreed. "You're on the third floor — Hermione and Ron are there, too."

While Analeigh made her way up the stairs and to her friends, Sirius and Altair moved to another room to speak privately.

"She still doesn't know we're all related?" Sirius said incredulously.

"You didn't know before, either," Altair shot back. Sirius sent him a small glare.

"Hey, how was I supposed to know that you and your family started going by Heart of all surnames?" he defended. "Besides, I only met your daughter that one time. I didn't exactly get the chance to ask her who her father was — oh, right, it's you."

Altair huffed like a child about to throw a tantrum, causing Sirius to fold his arms in satisfaction. He could tell he was winning this argument.

"I'll tell her soon enough," Altair eventually said.

Sirius watched his cousin thoughtfully. He did understand why he didn't tell his daughter yet — after all, Altair had such a messy past during Voldemort's peak of power that of course he didn't want to be associated with the Black name any longer. Sirius felt the same way, but his name and face had become too known in the wizarding world that it was no use changing it anymore.

"It wouldn't be that surprising, actually," Sirius reassured. "Purebloods in Great Britain are more or less all related to one another, even if it's just by marriage. Merlin, even the Potters and Weasleys are somewhere out there in our family tree."

"Yes, but I literally just told her a few weeks ago about me being a Death Eater before," Altair said in a low voice.

Sirius sympathized with him. Although he himself would never have joined the dark side, he knew that different circumstances led to different outcomes. His own little brother, Regulus, had been tempted by it, and Sirius wished everyday that he had helped him out of that life. On the other hand, Altair was threatened into it because of his family, but he was lucky enough to have escaped it all with the help and trust of Dumbledore.

"You do know our tapestry is here, right?" Sirius suddenly pointed out. "Your name's literally there. If she finds this room, I don't think you can come up with an excuse anymore."

As if on cue, both men looked to their side at the Black Family Tree tapestry spread across the large wall. Altair groaned while Sirius chuckled in amusement.

"Don't worry about it," Sirius said genuinely. "I'm sure Analeigh will understand."

"Leigh!"

Hermione attacked the dirty blonde haired girl in a hug the moment she stepped inside the room.

"Hermione," Analeigh greeted with a small laugh, hugging her back.

"Relax, Hermione. You saw her less just a few weeks ago," Ron said from where he sat on the bed.

"Good to know you didn't miss me at all, Ron," Analeigh joked. "How long have you been staying here?"

"We just arrived yesterday," said Hermione. "Ron and the others picked me up on the way. They had to explain everything to my parents."

"Yeah, not to mention the fact that it took bloody long to pack everything we needed since my entire family had to move in here," Ron added.

"Everyone's here?" Analeigh said, mildly taken aback. The Weasleys were a huge family — then again, the house was quite big, too.

Ron nodded in response and said, "Except for the ones working. Charlie's still in Romania, but Bill left Egypt for a simpler job here so he could help the Order."

"What about Percy?"

Hermione and Ron shared uneasy looks.

"What is it?" Analeigh said, feeling like she was missing something.

"Er, Percy left us a few days ago," Ron said. "He got into a fight with mum and dad. It was really bad."

"What happened?"

"Percy got a promotion at the Ministry," Hermione started.

"Isn't that a good thing?"

"Well, not exactly. He didn't do such a good job last year, remember? He didn't even notice anything was wrong with Crouch, so it was odd that he got promoted in the first place. That's why dad suspects that they're using Percy to find out more about us — they think dad's close with Dumbledore, who knows the most about what happened to Harry."

"So, where did he go?"

"He left in the middle of the night. Mum couldn't stop crying. We haven't seen him since."

Analeigh paused to take all the information in. She didn't realize that this whole situation was affecting so many people, nor did she imagine that the Ministry was becoming more obvious with their dislike for Dumbledore. How were they going to fight against Voldemort and his followers if they didn't want to believe that he was back?

"Has Harry written to you?" Hermione changed the subject.

"A few times," Analeigh sighed. "I couldn't reply properly because —"

"Because of Dumbledore?" Hermione finished to which Analeigh nodded at.

"I wonder why that man won't let us write back to him," Ron muttered.

"I know. I feel like such an awful person. Harry's going to be furious with us," Hermione said dejectedly. "Do you think he'll be able to stay —"

Crack. Hermione and Analeigh jumped from where they stood in the middle of the room, only to find that Fred and George had appeared directly behind them.

"How are ya, Leigh?" they greeted.

"I see you passed your Apparition tests," she commented to which they beamed proudly at.

"They've been Apparating and using magic nonstop since the start of summer," Ron grumbled.

"You're just jealous that we can do whatever we want now while you still have to wait two more years," Fred teased.

"What are you even doing here?"

"Oh, we came with news," said George.

"Well, go on, then," Ron urged. "Spit it out."

"Snape's downstairs. We think he's part of the Order of the Phoenix."

A/N: Sooo, Analeigh's related to the Black family :0 I actually hinted it in Chapter 4 but I'm not sure if y'all caught that bc it wasn't really important to the plot back then haha :> More will be revealed in the next chapter!
