37

As I walked past a nurse, I sent her a small smile and proceeded to Nathan's room. I pushed the door quietly, in case he was asleep.

He indeed was. He lay peacefully on the bed, snoring lightly. I pulled the large blanket over his body and went ahead to sit a little closer to the bedside.

I fetched my phone from my purse and enjoyed its company till Nathan awoke.

-------------------------

"Hey." I turned my attention to Nathan as he spoke. His eyes were still slightly heavy with sleep.

"You finally woke up. I missed you," I declared and stood from the chair and took a seat on the bed.

"I missed you too."

"So I met the doctor just outside and she said you might be discharged in two days." He smiled shortly. "So all you did was sleep while I was away?"

"Yeah."

"Sleepy head. How's your head though?" I asked, remembering he mentioned having a headache.

"It's better now. I think the nap helped." He yawned and stretched which made me laugh.

"You need water."

"I didn't tell you I did."

"I didn't need you to tell me," He shaped his lips into a pout and folded his arms across his chest. "You're drinking all this."

I handed over to him the bottle. "Nope." He shook his head vigorously.

"Please…" He took the bottle and gulped it down and then burped.

"Done." I smiled and took the empty container from him. "Hey, do you think there's a way we could escape this place?"

"Well, no but even if I did, we're not escaping." I rolled my eyes at him.

"We should and I mean soon. What about tonight? I feel good already."

"Nathan, we're not going anywhere. Why do you even want to escape?" I asked him, very much confused.

"Genevieve." He flatly spoke.

Genevieve?

"Who's Genevieve?"

"The doctor. She came here while you were away. She said the same thing, Eve. She might hurt us."

"She wouldn't hurt us. Besides, she doesn't know my relation with you. Did you tell her who I was to you?" He shook his head.

"Eve, if she hurts you, I'll never forgive myself." He stated quite seriously.

"No one will hurt me." He didn't speak. "Okay?" He looked at me with a smile on his face. "I'm...tired," I said in between a long yawn.

"The bed is big enough for us. Come here," He patted the free side of the bed. He pushed further to create more space.

I climbed into the bed and lay my head on a very soft pillow. "This is so soft!" I exclaimed not too loudly.

"Yeah, it tempts me to sleep every time." I laughed. "Are you comfortable?" I nodded but he shook his head.

"I'm fine."

"You're not. Look how your leg is hanging off the bed." He laughed and grabbed my waist. "Lay like this, you'll be more comfortable."

He rested my head on his chest while his arm was around my shoulder, pulling me closer to him.

"Thank you," I muttered.

"For what?" I lifted my head and he looked down at me.

"Everything."

"You're welcome. Now, go to sleep. I'll stay awake and watch over you."

"But you don't have…." I was cut short by Nathan.

"I will." He smiled comfortingly. "Now, sleep."

I obliged to what he said and shut my eyes immediately, wanting to fall into a peaceful sleep.

Nathan's POV

I wanted to protect Eve and I would do it anyhow I can. Even like this. Holding her close to me, her shoulders rising and falling slowly in my arms.

I would never forgive myself if Eve got hurt. I'll hold her close to me everytime and everyday.

"Mm…" Eve mumbled.

"Shh, it's okay." I held her head down before she could uplift it off my chest. She furrowed her eyebrows and I chuckled at her expression.

Laying on my chest was a ravishingly beautiful girl. A girl who I see helping me get through everything. A girl that I picture with me forever.

Yes, I love you, Eve. I really do and I can't wait to tell you how I truly feel.

"I love you, Eve Rogers." I whispered into the air. She rubbed her palm over my chest and I smiled confidently.

I hope you heard me and I hope you know that what I said is true.

I was slowly becoming sleepy as well. I stared solely at the beige coloured ceiling and before I knew it, I was falling asleep.
