Nathan's POV

My eyes were shut as I focused on the constant beating of my heart. The excruciating pain in my head slowly increased as time passed.

I heard the door unlock but I still had my eyes closed. Footsteps grew louder as they inched closer to where I laid. Then someone spoke up; someone I knew. My chest tightened immediately as anger slowly took over me.

As I opened my eyes, they met hers; Genevieve Quinn's. Different emotions, both known and unknown, made me feel excessively uneasy. The sharp pain in my head caused me to grimace.

"Quickly, get a nurse to bring another head bandage. This needs to be changed," She said to a nurse who hurriedly escorted herself out of the room. I took a quick glance at Eve and the look that sat on her face, worried me.

Another nurse walked in with what looked like a white cloth in her hand. She paced quickly to the bedside and slowly unwrapped the bandage around my head, changing it with the other.

"Miss, I'm sorry but I'll have to ask you to leave the room. The patient needs to rest," Genevieve spoke to Eve in an attitudinizing calm manner. I stared at her in disgust as Eve walked closer to me.

"Nathan, I'll be right outside. I'm not going anywhere." Her slender thumb brushed over my cheek after which she smiled and headed towards the door.

Once Eve had left, Genevieve spoke. "Nurse, give him some painkillers. He'll be fine," She skilfully winked at me and turned to the entrance. "I told you I'd see you sometime baby boy. Well, here we are." She exited the room.

The pills I had gulped down my throat, started working sooner than I expected. I was exceedingly drowsy before I shut my eyes and fell into a peaceful sleep.

Eve's POV

As I made my way back to the reception, I was deeply immersed in an ocean of numerous thoughts.

Why did Nathan react that way when he saw the doctor? Do they know each other?

I threw myself onto the couch, still deep in my thoughts. The look Nathan had in his eyes, slightly frightened me each time I remembered. The abrupt vibration in my back pocket, brought me back to reality.

'Emma.' I pressed the cold device on my ear as a deep sigh followed mu words.

'Eve, it's almost noon. Is Nathan alright?' She spoke quickly and a little out of breath.

'He's doing well. He has slight pains in his head so he has been given some pills.'

'That's good then. You sound… I don't know. Tired?' She asked.

'Yeah, I'm tired. I just hope he'll recover soon.' I said and rubbed my temples slowly.

'It will all be over soon. If Nathan wakes up, tell him I said he's going to be fine.'

'I will. Talk to you later?'

'Sure. Take care and I love you.' I smiled at her words.

'I love you too. Bye.' She hung up and I tuck my phone back into my pocket. I sank into the couch and gazed solely on the doctor. Again, she murmured something to the nurse and walked away.

Why do I feel like this woman is bad news?

My stomach growled in hunger. Now, that's bad news. I approached the nurse at her desk.

"Is there an eatery in here?" She nodded before she spoke.

"There's a kitchen further down. Take the left turn," She smiled and I muttered a 'thank you' before heading towards the direction.

The pleasant aroma that danced around my nose when I reached the kitchen, gave my stomach a reason to growl louder. I walked up to the lady in an apron and ordered a scrumptious meal.

"Mm, this is very good," I whispered to myself as I savoured the delicious food. After, I walked back to the reception, now with an over full stomach.

I sank back into the couch waiting for Nathan to awake.

-------------------------
The night grew nearer and thicker. The hospital was utterly quiet and calm. The nurse who usually sat at the reception was out of place. I then took it upon myself to check on Nathan.

I gently walked into the room only to be welcomed with soft snores and the cold air blowing rapidly from the air conditioner.

After adjusting to the uncomfortable chair, I stared at the wall clock which read 8:30pm. I yawned softly after which I succumbed to the powerful charm of sleep.
