Karin
"No way."
"Come on."
"Not happening sis," Karin says brushing past her twin, entering the bathroom to do her makeup. She'd already promised her that she'd attend this stupid ball, there was no way she'd be forced to wear a dress too.
"Don't you want to meet a guy someday?" Yuzu retorts, leaning against the bathroom's threshold. "We're not in high school anymore Karin."
She only spared her sister a glance before leaning in closer to the mirror to apply her mascara. Yuzu already knew how she felt about such things. Boys just served as distractions, ones she didn't need. Especially not now when all her hard work was about to pay off. She was scheduled to graduate in the spring with her Bachelors in Media Communication and an internship lined up after. No boy was going to mess that up for her.
"Fine. What if I told you that the president of Tokyo Publications is gonna be at the dance?"
Karin barely kept from stabbing herself in the eye as she turned to stare at her twin. "You serious?" She breathed. Tokyo Publications was the company she was set to intern for early next year.
"As a heart attack." Yuzu deadpanned.
"That's not funny." Karin replied, still unsure where her sister's dark humor had come from. Probably from all those popular kids she hung out with in high school, Karin thought, turning her attention to her hair, pulling it up in a loose bun, letting a few strands hang down to frame her face.
"So?"
"So, what?"
"So, are you going to dress up now?" Yuzu questioned. "You seriously can't expect to meet your future boss looking like that." She said, waving a hand to the sweatshirt and jeans Karin had thrown on that morning before rushing off to class.
Karin blanched. Yuzu was right, this was her one chance to make a stunning first impression and she couldn't afford to blow it. Her financial security depended on it.
Yuzu smiled triumphantly as Karin did one last check to make sure her makeup wasn't too heavy, before following her back into Yuzu's dorm room. When hey entered university they both decided it was one they had separate rooms, so Karin's was across the hall with her roommate Kiera. Yuzu's was lucky as her roommate dropped out last minute, giving her a room that was meant for two people, all to herself.
"Choose." Yuzu commanded, waving a hand towards the two dresses on her bed.
Karin froze when she saw the dresses Yuzu had picked out. The first one was a white sundress, while the other was a backless black dress.
"Don't you have anything else?"
"Nope, I lent out all my other dresses. You can pick first and I'll wear the other." Yuzu announced taking a seat on her desk chair, watching in amusement as Karin picked up both dresses and went to try them on. A few minutes later she emerges, sporting the black backless, tossing the white dress to her twin with a annoyed look.
"You'll thank me when you get that job." Yuzu threw over her shoulder as she went to change.
"Whatever," Karin muttered to herself as she ignored the black flats laid out beside the bed, opting for the more comfortable black tennis shoes she wore everyday.
This time Yuzu was the one who froze as she exited the bathroom, a look of horror written across her face. "What are those?"
"Shoes," Karin stated, grabbing her phone to check the time. "Come on, we need to go."
"You can't go to a ball in those shoes."
"I can and I am, just a watch me. Now come one, I can't be late," Nerves were already starting to make their way into her stomach and the thought of someone down there already talking themselves up to her future boss didn't help.
Slipping on her wedges, Yuzu glances at her phone, sighing as she realizes her twin's right. They didn't have time to argue about a pair of shoes. Hoping that the Tokyo Publications president isn't an uptight kind of guy, she follows her sister out the door.

Toushirou
Tugging at his collar again, Toushirou tries in vain to loosen it in the hopes of being able to breathe again. Cursing his father for the tenth time since arriving, Toushirou surveyed the room, wondering which student was the intern his father had said to keep an eye out for.
Most of the students were too busy dancing or talking in corners of the room so it made it hard to see everyone. He noticed that most of his classmates kept to themselves even though this was supposed to be a ball to unite the two schools. Sighing, Toushirou made his way to the refreshment table.
"So who do you think it is?"
"How would I know? I never met the guy. His secretary is the one who told me I got the job."
Toushirou glanced at the two girls talking in what he suspected was meant to be a hushed whispers (they weren't doing a very good job at it), as he filled his cup. The shorter of he two had a white sundress on, her auburn hair hanging down in curls around her face. The taller one had a black dress that reached just below the knee and- were those tennis shoes? Given they were black so technically they matched he black and white theme of the dance. He'd never known any women who didn't have a perfectly matched outfit, especially at a fancy ball.
He didn't realize he was staring until the shorter one became quiet and the taller one, turned, glaring when she caught his stare.
"What?" She demanded, holding his gaze. "Do you go around staring at every girl?"
All he could do was gape in response. Doesn't she know who I am? No one had ever talked to him in such a tone, everyone was too scared of his dad. Bewildered, he turned away, shaking his head before taking a sip of his punch.
"What's he matter Karin?" He heard the girl's friend ask a moment later.
"Nothing, that guy over there was just staring at me." The girl- Karin, sighed.
Toushirou continued to scan the room, trying to tune out the girls chatting near him.
"Who?"
"That one. In the white tuxedo, with the bleached hair."
Annoyed Toushirou turned back to the dark haired girl, "It's naturally white, and if I did dye it, it certainly wouldn't be this color."
"Wow, touchy much?" Karin huffed. "What's your deal anyway? Don't I deserve an apology?"
Toushirou felt his eyebrow twitch. "Why should I apologize to you?"
"For staring at me! It's rude, didn't your parents ever teach you that?"
"Fine, I'm sorry." He replied, badly wishing he could tell someone that his life wasn't as perfect as it seemed. But if there was one thing his father had drilled into him, it was that telling people would disgrace their family name, not that his father cared about anyone but himself. So he stayed quiet, not mentioning how his mother had divorced his father when he was young, going as far as to move to another country to get away from them even. Or that his father wasn't around most of the time so he basically lived by himself, which suited him fine.
Karin didn't look convinced though, "You're gonna have to do better than that."
"Wait, are you-" Karin's friend starts, "Are you Hitsugaya Toushirou? Vice President of Tokyo Publications?"
Karin and Toushirou both turn to her, Toushirou in appreciation and Karin in confusion that quickly turned to shock.
"Well, are you?" The shorter girl demanded.
"Yes." Toushirou finally said.
"So what are you doing at a school dance for?"
"I'm here because my father was too busy to come. I'm supposed to find the new intern that we're hiring for next year and go over any last minute details. It's to save time when they start."
"Oh, do you know this person's name?" the girl asked, subtlety nudging her friend, who was still staring at him in shock.
He shook his head, "Just the last name."
"What is it? Maybe we know this person."
Normally Toushirou despised small talk, conversations in general really, but maybe these two could help. He knew the person certainly didn't go to his school.
"Kurosaki."
A giddy laugh erupted from the girl at his response, though he had no idea why.
"What?" Toushirou asked, confused.
Forcing herself to stop laughing she stood up straighter, holding out her hand.
"I'm Kurosaki Yuzu and this is my twin, Kain." Yuzu introduced, waiting for him to shake her hand, which he did as he glanced between the two.
Karin finally spoke up, looking somewhat embarrassed for yelling at him earlier.
Toushiou's eyes widened in shock. These two are twins? They look almost nothing alike! Mentally shaking himself, he kept his expression neutral.
"I'm the one you're looking for." Karin pointed out quickly, which Toushirou was grateful for. He took a moment to study the girl who was to be part of his father's company, someone he would see everyday for at least six months of not a year, which was the amount of time interns usually stayed on.
She was shorter than him by a few inches but easily 5'4". Her hair was in a bun, a style typically worn by businesswomen. Not o mention how fearlessly she had told him off earlier. He quickly summed her up to be a practical woman who didn't back down. No wonder his dad had hired her.
Clearing his throat, Toushirou broke he silence. "So, did you have any questions about anything?"
Karin shook her head, "No, I already went over everything with the lady that called me."
Toushirou nodded, "Good. I'll leave you ladies to enjoy the rest f your night then."
Toushirou was halfway to the door, having dumped the remainder of his drink in the trash on his way out, when a hand in his arm stopped him.
"Wait." A breathless voice said behind him. He didn't attempt to conceal his surprise as he turned to find Karin behind him.
"What?" Toushirou asked impatiently. He only had to stay long enough to ensure that the new intern had all the information they needed, he had done that. Nothing was going to keep him at this awful dance any longer.
"You owe me."
Toushirou sighed. Of course she's the type to not let anything go, not even a simple apology.
"What do you want?" Toushirou asked, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Dance with me."
"Come again?"
"You heard me. Dance with me."
"I don't dance." Toushirou stated, annoyed at the mere idea of staying at the dance longer.
"Do you not know how to?" She asked, confused, eyebrows scrunching together.
"Oh course I know how to, I just choose not to." Toushirou defended.
Karin smirked. "So you're scared to then."
"No I'm not!"
"Sure."
"I'm not."
"Then prove it."
"Fine, lead the way then, princess." Toushirou smirked, even as he hated having to stay longer than was necessary.
"Shut up and dance with me." Karin shot back, her glare turning into a confident smirk.
Enjoying his discomfort, Karin grabbed his arm, practically pulling him into the dance floor just as a fast song started. Just like that they were dancing. Toushirou meant to leave after one song but ended up dancing most of them with Karin, not even noticing the time flying by. When they finally stopped, both were breathless but had smiles on their faces, although Toushirou's was smaller since wasn't used to smiling for no reason other than from sheer happiness.
"So why're you wearing tennis shoes?" Toushirou finally asked, taking a sip from the new drinks they had gotten before sitting down at one of the nearby tables.
"I wanted to be able to run away if the zombie apocalypse hit. It's bad enough being forced to come to a dance, I don't need to lose my life just because I'm wearing heels." Karin said, laughing lightly.
It was then that Toushirou took note of the time. The clock was inching ever so slowly towards midnight. Most of the dancers had either left or were taking a break.
"Where's your sister? I need to leave but I don't want to leave you here all alone."
Karin shrugged, "She probably left already, I don't see her anywhere."
"So, do you need a ride home then?"
This time it was Karin who looked surprised. "Yeah I do, thank you."
Toushirou shrugged. "No problem, I help out co-workers all the time." He answered truthfully. Not many bosses would care about the people under them but he made it a priority to keep his workers happy. Happy workers meant a more productive workplace. They quickly tossed their drinks before heading out to Toushiou's truck.
The drive to her dormitory was quiet but not uncomfortable by any means. It was the kind of peaceful silence you'd find between old friends.
When they reached the parking lot of her dormitory, Toushirou rushed to open her door for her. The cheesiness of it made Karin want to roll her eyes, but the sincerity in his gaze stopped her. He didn't see her as being inferior, he just was being polite.
"Thank you for the ride." She said before heading towards the dorms.
"Sure. See you next year then?" He replied.
"Yeah see you then!" Karin called, glancing at him one more before opening the door.
Somehow Toushirou was looking forward to next year, even if he had a lot of tax papers to get done before then.

A/N: So this is my take on Romeo and Juliet, albeit without all the family problems (except for poor Toushiou's parent problems), and people dying. What do you think? I've been planning to write this ever since I heard this song last year so I'm glad I finally got it figured out, wasn't sure how to use it until yesterday. External link is the first version of this song that I heard and loved it so check it out! Thank you to everyone who puts up with my slow updates and still reads my work, I love each of you lots. Tell me what you think in the comments (they help motivate me so if you want faster updates then comment, even if it's not more than a sentence.) Also, vote and telling your friends if you like this!
