Truly Overpower
It was a rainy day in the middle of November. Adults were working, kids were in school, just like any regular weekday.
"It's actually very simple, my dear students," a relatively young teacher was explaining high-school level calculus to his class. "A Cauchy succession is defined as a succession which elements get indefinitely close after a certain point. Since it's defined like that, we don't need to prove that it is a Cauchy succession."
To be honest, that wouldn't be high school level anywhere in the world, except for Academy City. The city of technology! The city of geniuses and scientists! The city where kids were taught about quantum physics, so that they wouldn't need to reevaluate the way they see the world when they were too old to do it, in order to understand it.
But the city was mostly famous because of the Esper Powers Program. As an unexpected side-effect of brain improvement pursued through drugs and surgery, some people showed the incredible ability to superimpose their personal way to see the world (usually referred to as "Personal Reality") on the physical world.
These newly discovered abilities varied greatly. Most of them were science related, but some were just out of this world.
"Kids, I get calculus isn't very exciting, but you need it to understand physics classes." Said the teacher. He wasn't angry, but you could feel from his tone how discouraged he was. "Your brains are more developed than mine, even if you're level 0s, so will you at least use a small fraction of your brainpower to pay attention?"
A particularly edgy-looking teen precariously balanced himself on his chair: "Dude chill, if our brains are so much better than yours we don't need your lessons anyway, right?"
"All I'm saying is that you all need to study this subject to pass the school year and in order to improve your abilities."
The teen rolled his eyes. "Why would I care? I'm already the strongest esper in the city."
Some of his classmates chuckled, the teacher simply lifted an eyebrow.
"You say so, yet System Scan says you're a level 0" the man pointed out as he was reading the teen's file from the school database. "and we never saw you using your ability. And yet, here you are, claiming you're better than the guy who manipulates vectors! The guy who, by the way, elaborates reality on a purely mathematical level." The teacher was visibly annoyed by that kid's attitude, and couldn't stop defending his field.
The teen started drumming his fingers on the desk, as if he was trying to calm himself down. "I already told you, I was labelled as level 0 because I decided so. I am the author."
Silence. The noise of his fingers tapping on the desk filled the classroom.
A soft voice broke the silence. "If that was true, why would you do that?" It was one of the girls in class, but the teacher could not recognise who.
"Well, nothing less than making the plot more interesting, duh. If I was already classified as the Number 1 Esper with a power like mine, the story would contain no conflict, right?"
"Man, you always talk like that, but what can you actually do?" Asked the boy sitting next to him. As much as most of the class wasn't very fond of calculus, they were definitely less fond of a guy who could only run his mouth about how great he was, especially when there was no evidence to back up his claims.
The young man lifted his hand from the desk and clenched his fist. "Which part of <<literally anything>> can't you understand, second-rate? I'm writing this story right now." He pointed at the floor to underline those last two words. Considering how he was speaking, those students likely had that conversation before.
The teacher was suddenly curious. Where was this boy going with his babbling? How long could he keep lying? "You're not even taking notes, though. What do you mean?"
"Not here physically, idiot. I wouldn't write a story about myself writing. Who would ever read that?!" He gritted his teeth and pointed his index finger at his classmates. He wasn't pointing at one in particular, as he was actually threatening all of them altogether. "Just know that I could end every single one of you if I just decide to stop writing." A killer look lighted his eyes. "And I'm gonna do it if you keep bothering me!"
"Okay, young man, that's enough. You could end everything if you just stopped writing? As if we would belie
