Chapter 9: Break The Seal

Quick disclaimer: Yato belongs to the creator of Noragami, Handa belongs to the creator of Handa-kun/Barakamon, and any characters that are not OCs or made up characters to spread rumors, belong to the creator of Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun. The only one that belongs to me is my OC, school mystery no. 8, Kitsujito Mezuteiji.

Yato tilts his head in confusion, "What's a yorishiro?" He asks as his eyebrows furrow.

"You remember what a yorishiro is right, Yashiro?" Hanako asks turning to look at Yashiro.

She rakes her brain to remember, and then, as if a light bulb going off in her head, she nods her head quickly.

"Good, then can you explain it to the boy here?" Hanako asks with a playful smirk looking at Yato.

"Sure! A yorishiro is something that's important to an apparition." Yashiro explains with a smile.

"Good job. Now, if you break an apparition's yorishiro, which is actually limited to the Seven School Mysteries, including the secret Eighth School Mystery, you'll reduce their strength by half, and everything should be returned to normal." Hanako says going into more detail.

"So, there's a chance that we can help Handa?" Yato asks, his chest tightening with hope and anticipation.

"Yes. But...." Hanako trails off turning around to look at Yashiro, "My assistant is the only one who can do it." Yashiro's eyes widen, a smile on her face.

"I'll get to meet another school mystery!" Yashiro cheers quietly to herself.

Yato chuckles to himself over Yashiro's quiet cheering, it not exactly being silent or too quiet. Hanako too chuckles a bit at Yashiro, but he shortly turns his attention back to Yato.

"Well-" Hanako starts.

"Then let's get going!" Yashiro interrupts Hanako, starting to make her way back to the school building.

"Yashiro, we're going to the old school building." Hanako says walking towards said place.

Yato walks beside him as Yashiro panics before chasing after the two boys, trying to catch up to the them.

Soon, they make it to the Janitor's Closet, and Hanako knocks on the door. No one answering the door, but muffled talking can be heard from behind the door.

"Stop being so difficult!" A voice suddenly yells, startling the three people outside of the door.

They hear no response, and Hanako decides to enter anyway, disappearing, and reappearing in the room. What he sees shocks him, his eyes go wide as his eyes land on someone who he wishes he could never see again. Kitsu turns to Hanako, him not noticing this, his eyes only trained on the other person in the room. They turn to look at Hanako, and a sudden bright smile appears on his face as he's about to yell a delighted greeting, but he gets interrupted.

Kitsu gets up and quickly shoves them to the door, pulling out their key, unlocking it quickly, opening it, and quickly shoves the boy out of the room, slamming the door as if saying 'Don't bother coming back for the rest of the day.' They then turn to Hanako and bows. Hanako, blinks in surprise.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the door, Yato and Yashiro stare at the boy who looks like Hanako, and tilt their heads, confused. The boy blinks in surprise.

"Darn, she's so difficult!" He mumbles to himself, not noticing the other two yet before disappearing in a black smoke like substance.

Having not heard, the door click a second time, Yato quickly makes his way to open the door, and opens it quickly. It revealing Kitsu still bowing, and a confused Hanako. Kitsu stops bowing and turns around, then as soon as their eyes land on Yato, they stares at him, as if staring into his soul. Yashiro stares at Kitsu in awe, they look beautiful to her.

"So, Mezuteiji. We've come on some business. Mind sparing us a minute?" Hanako asks returning back to his usual self.

They turn to Hanako and quickly sign, "What kind of business?" Forgetting about him who keeps calling them by their last name.

Hanako looks to Yato in expectancy, "My friend Handa is allergic to cats.... We didn't know this until after, and so I went to Hanako to ask him if he could help me get rid of the curse from him." Yato explains, dropping his head, as if saying sorry.

Kitsu looks between Hanako and Yato, then sighs, "The only way for that to happen would be to destroy my yorishiro..... That's why you've come right?" They sign looking to Hanako, in which he nods, making his way to Yashiro.

"So how about handing it over?" Hanako asks grabbing one of Yashiro's arms and holding out her hand forcefully.

Kitsu's gaze follows Hanako, "It's their fault, why should I hand over my yorishiro?" They sign tilting their head as if showing irritation.

"Please Kitsujito. I don't want my friend to suffer, if it was possible I'd take it for him if I didn't already have it. I don't want there to be a chance for him to die." Yato explains, bowing, "I can't think of anything else I could do." He says with sincerity.

Kitsu turns to look at Yato, sighing, realizing that they won't back down, shrugs, "Fine, just stop bowing. Girl, come with me." They sign pointing at Yashiro.

Hanako relays the message to Yato and Yashiro, hugging Yashiro in the process.

"You expect me to touch her? You pervert.... Yashiro..... come on." Kitsu signs again, realizing Hanako won't let her go.

"Take care of her." Hanako says pushing Yashiro towards Kitsu, sending them on their way to the deepest part of their boundary.

'I will Han-kun.' Kitsu thinks as they take Yashiro to find their yorishiro.

On The Way To The Yorishiro

"Do you not talk Kitsujito?" Yashiro asks them.

They respond with a shake of their head, quickly pulling out her board and writing something down, "No, I'm a mute. Why do you talk?" They say.

"Hmm." Yashiro wonders to herself as she thinks about her answer to the apparition, "Because it makes it easier to communicate with people. You also get to experience lots of emotion?" She says, though it comes out more unsure on the second sentence.

Kitsu just nods in response, putting their board away. Yashiro smiles at Kitsujito, thankful to have met them so far. Soon enough, they make it to a library looking room, Yashiro looks around in slight surprise.

"Is one of these big books your yorishiro?" Yashiro asks spinning around, looking at all of the books.

Kitsu nods, heading over to one of the bookshelves and pulling out a skinny book, it has a picture of an outlined item that appears to be missing, the title of the book being 'The Forgotten Key'. It's an old story that not many people know about.

The plot basically being about a little boy trying to find a key that's missing to the attic in which he really wants to visit. Then, he forgets about the key, many years later finding it and unlocking the attic with glee as he still feels like a kid at heart. Though, he leaves the key on a table in the room, and once he leaves, the key is left, forgotten yet again. Not exactly the happiest story, but Kitsu liked it enough.

"Is that story your yorishiro?" Yashiro asks walking up behind the apparition, she gets a nod in response as she is then shown the "seal" on the front of the book.

Kitsu sighs and hugs the book a moment before handing it over to Yashiro, who gladly takes it carefully, and then peels off a small bit of the seal, broken triangles appearing around the room, then breaking as Yashiro pulls the entire seal off of the book, plunging Yashiro into darkness.
