ache

orion and fin

Orion stepped out of the shower with a smile on his face. Grabbing the towel from the rack, he gently wiped the water from his body. Putting his towel back on the rack, he grabbed his outfit from the corner of the sink and  slipped on his plain red tee shirt, grey boxers, and washed out jeans.

Rubbing at the stubble on his chin, he then reached up towards the cabinet to search for his razor. He mumbled under his breath as he searched the messy cabinet.

"Where could it be?" He huffed.

He thought of searching the cabinet under the sink, but that was Fin's cabinet, where she held her makeup and toiletries. She told him that he wasn't allowed in there, but he was just looking for his razor. Nothing else.

With that, Orion bent down and opened up the small square shaped door. He stuck his head in and dug around.

That was... until he felt what felt like a book hiding in the corner. With a confused expression, he lifted out the book and raised a brow.

"Why would she keep that in there?"

Orion sat down all the way and slumped back against the cabinet, preparing himself for what he was about to read.

Fin stood at the front door, her bags right in front of it. They had been packed for a few days now but she was waiting for the right time, and yet there was no right time. So she couldn't wait any longer. She was nervous as she waited for Orion to finish getting ready.

She reached down to play with her necklace. The necklace Orion had given her just a year before. She would need to give it back, but as she rubbed the spot where it usually laid, all she could feel was skin.

Fin gasped in panic. She began to look around for it, everywhere. She took a glance at Orion's desk. Maybe he found it and slipped it in there...

With that, Fin tied her hair into a pony tail and walked over to Orion's desk.

"It should be in here..." she muttered as she dug through the drawer.

As she felt around the back of the drawer, she felt something hard. Slowly, she pulled the object out and stared questionably at it.

A journal?

Fin slowly slid to the floor and slumped against the desk, preparing herself for what she was about to read.

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

Orion was crying before the second page. He was crying even more after the last.

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

As Fin finished up the last page she cupped her hand over her mouth.

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

"Yeah, I found yours too," a voice seethed.

Fin looked up at Orion. He stood feet away in front of the bathroom door with her journal in his clenched hand. Just like Orion, Fin had tears streaming down her face.

"Maybe it is love I feel for you. Maybe it's love I wish that I could feel for you. Maybe it's confusion," he mimicked a line from her last entry.

"Oh!" He exclaimed loudly. "Don't forget this one! I'm now coming to a conclusion that it was never true before when I told you I love you too. My guess is that I said it out of cowardice fear of hurting you rather than saying it with meaningful confidence."

"Orion, stop!" Fin begged in a strangled voice, muffled by her own tears.

She dropped Orion's journal and began to crawl on her knees towards him, crying out continuously.

Orion backed away, wiping away drops of tears from his cheeks. "Stop? How about one more. This is a good one! My bags are packed. You have to forgive me. I need you to forgive me. I need you to tell me you forgive me."

"I'm sorry," Fin cried. "I'm so sorry, please!"

"I see your bags are packed Fin, you're all ready aren't you?" Orion taunted.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I didn't know you had a ring, I didn't know you loved me that much! Believe me Orion, please!"

"You didn't know? You didn't know?! I did everything for you! I would still do everything for you! You lied to my face. You lied to my face for two years! That's two years I'll never get back! That's two years I spent with you making me believe that I am capable of being loved, but I'm not! I'm not and I knew I wasn't but you made me believe otherwise!"

Fin tugged at his hands, pleading for his forgiveness.

"Thank you Fin! Thank YOU for proving me right! Thank you for that!"

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

Fin teared up as she thought back to that memory. It had been two years since that day and it would be imprinted in her head until death, for she would always feel guilt. She had been single ever since. Living alone in her high rise apartment. Of course she had friends and family, but she never had anything but that.

And as she sipped on a glass of wine while watching reruns of that 70's show she felt regret. She lost someone incredibly important to her and although she never fully loved him she felt that maybe she could have if she tried harder, but you can't force love and you also don't have to pretend to love. But she did just that.

A soft knock at her front door broke her thoughts. She set her glass on the coffee table and headed towards her door.

"Who is it?" She called out.

"UPS ma'm."

That's strange. She opened the door slowly and stared at the uniformed man in confusion.

"I didn't order anything..."

"Maybe, but someone sent this to you," he answered, handing her the small package and clip board.

"Sign there please."

Fin obliged and unclipped the pen from the board, signing her her name quickly with the package in hand.

"Have a great day ma'm."

"You too," she mumbled, her gaze locked on the package as she shut her door back.

She walked over to the kitchen counter and grabbed a pair of scissors. Walking over to her couch, she sat down and set the package and scissors on the coffee table. The sticker on the package was labeled with her address but didn't say from where.

Taking the scissors, she began to rip through the package carefully. Once it was fully opened she peaked inside.

Fin froze. Sticking her hands in the box she picked up the journal. Her journal. She shakily opened it up and flicked through the pages. Her eyes settled on the last one. Particularly the words written on it.
