Chapter 10 ||Brother To The Rescue||
Lucy watched as the Narnian males biding farewells to their loved ones before leaving. She saw Glenstorm saying goodbye to his wife.
She looked at Peter who was standing few feet away from her. She looked with those hurt eyes and turned to make her way back to the How after confirming he has nothing to say.
Early she saw him but didn’t speak. She spoke with Caspian to see if he has changed his mind or not. She found him, changed his mind already.
She apologized for how Peter spoke to him, assuring that, “It isn’t the real Peter, he’s really a good person but he doesn’t like when someone speaks against what he believe as right.”
To which he responded, “It’s alright, I can understand. He’s the High King, so yeah, that means we must do as he says. I couldn’t think about anything else other than rescuing my sister from my uncle, ever since Peter played that ‘brother card’ on me.” He let out a small chuckle.
…..
Caspian sighed as his hand caught his gift for Cerlesta in his pocket. Determination overtook him as he glanced inside the pouch, revealing a silver blue crystal necklace. A pain, a longing, guiltiness, sadness, anger; his emotions were recognizable.
He forgot how much he missed her, but he knew, he missed her in every way, in every inch of second he spends. His heart raced and a grin spread across his lips at the thought of seeing her. Now the only thing in his mind was get there, save Cery, capture Miraz and take back their father’s throne.
That Brother Card really worked after all.
…..
As settled, they left to Miraz’s castle in the evening. Almost by the dead of night, they reached to the end of the nearest wood to the castle.
Caspian and the Pevensies with Trumpkin, went ahead first on Griffins. Edmund and his griffin flew ahead, reached safely on a watch tower roof after taking the guard who stood there.
Once the spot was surely clear, Edmund took out his torch from his waist and lit it, blinking it several times as a signal, towards the way he and his griffin came through.
Another four griffins came carrying Caspian, Peter, Susan and Trumpkin; once they saw Edmund’s signal. Seeing a guard on the nearby tower, Caspian’s griffin flew to him and Caspian seized him with his sword. The griffin held Caspian back to his position and flew forward by Caspian’s lead.
As they neared a platform where they are to land, Susan saw a guard aiming his crossbow to where Edmund stood, seeing the flash light. Susan took an awesome aim and let go of the arrow, from being held by the griffin. The arrow went straightly to the man from his back and he fell to the floor.
Soon they were landed there.
Another guard who was there, drew his sword and came to Peter, who managed him easily. Edmund saw them and breathed in relief, plan worked perfectly!
The next was to get inside unnoticed. Below the platform they stood, it was the professor’s bedroom. Therefore, with the help of a rope, they climbed down to the large window entrance one by one through the wall.
First Caspian landed, Peter came next. Caspian quietly knocked and called his name but no answer came. He chose to enter through the professor’s room instead of Cerlesta’s because it was much safer way to pass unnoticed.
The window was locked from inside. Caspian used his knife and unlocked. He was slightly shocked at the room’s untidy condition. It was very dark, many books and papers chattered on his (professor’s) bed and on the tables here and there.
A strange feeling overtook Caspian, he stepped inside. On a table, he found his beloved Professor’s glasses. That was enough for him to guess that Professor was in a danger.
By the time, Susan and Trumpkin also got down to them.
Caspian lifted his head and saw them, “I have to get him too.” He whispered.
“You don’t have time! You need to get the gate open.” Said Peter.
“You wouldn’t even be here without him. And neither would I.” argued Caspian.
Peter glanced at Susan. “You and I can deal with Miraz.” She told him.
Caspian felt thankful to her, “And I can still get to the gate in time.” He promised.
“What about Cerlesta”? Susan asked.
“That’s where I’m heading, she’ll know right where he is.” He said and exited the room.
Hiding in the shadows and behind the walls, Caspian finally made his way to his suit. He got in and closed the door behind him. Their sitting room looked very tidy, which was unusual. He took a deep breath and reached to his sister’s door. He slowly opened and peeked inside; a wave of relief went through his body as his eyes caught her asleep on her bed.
He stepped in, closing the door behind quietly not to frighten her. He walked closer and sat on her bed. His eyes began to wet with happiness and grinned at her sight.
His hand reached to remove her hair from her face. She had tearstains on her both cheeks, which were able to see by the moonlight through her windows. Caspian sighed, seeing those tear stains.
Then to his surprise, Cerlesta reacted with a sleepy moan at his touch. However, didn’t open her eyes.
“I knew it.” Caspian muttered to himself.
He shook her slightly, “Sweetheart, wake up.” He whispered.
No response.
He shook again with patting gently, “Come on Cers, we don’t have time.” He whispered again.
She groaned in disagreement, pulling the covers to her head in defense, still not daring to open her eyes.
Caspian chuckled softly, “Come on, you sleepy head.” He said reaching his hands to move the cover from her face.
But she had a grip on it so Caspian had to struggle slightly. She groaned more.
He retreated saying, “Alright, so you really want to try it in my way, won’t you?” he asked; this time saying clearly instead of whispering.
As soon as he said those words, he noticed the stillness that appeared on her body as if she stopped breathing. Caspian waited with a huge grin.
The cover was tucked way, Cerlesta’s head shot up with wide eyes in shock.
“Cas?” she whispered, blinking and rubbing her eyes quickly.
Her ears soon caught the familiar teasing chuckle. She gasped loudly, covering her mouth with a hand.
“CASPI –” she yelled from the top of her lungs but Caspian’s hand shot up to cover her mouth.
“Shh, we are not safe,” he whispered, looking towards the door.
“Oh Caspian, it’s you! It’s really you!” she whispered in excitement, throwing herself into his arms.
With force for her hug, Caspian slightly leaned back chuckling slightly. But soon it was replaced with tears of joy as Cerlesta start to sob.
“Hey Cery, don’t cry, it’s alright, I’m here now, I’ve come for you.” He whispered stroking her hair.
“You don’t understand! I’ve missed you terribly!”
“Of course I do! I’ve missed you too.” He said, drawing circles on her back to comfort her. It did gave her comfort but she cried hardly again at the thought of how much did she missed him in every way. Her mind was screaming with a lot of questions but because of the sobs she couldn’t find her voice to ask.
“Try to calm down, slowly, take deep breaths, and then you can find your voice, honey.” said Caspian gently. She took a couple of shaky deeps breaths as he told and found herself able to find her voice.
“H-How did you got here? Where were you?” she asked in blurry voice, shaky from the sobs, still in his tight embrace.
Caspian took a deep breath, “I’m so sorry everything was ruined all becau –”
She pulled from the hug and faced him, “I didn’t ask you about that now, did I? I know what happened, Professor told me –”
“Professor told you?” Caspian asked.
“Yes, he had to; first, tell me how –”
“I’ll tell you everything later, we must hurry, and we don’t have time now for that. I’m already late, Peter will kill me (chuckling), and I have to get Professor too.” He said.
“You mean High King Peter? Is He here too!?” she asked shocked.
“Yes, also Queen Susan and King Edmund. Queen Lucy stayed behind. You met them, didn’t you? They told me.” He said quickly and got up.
“Yes but why are they here? Where you going?” she asked.
He bends down to her and stroked her cheek, “We’re going to take back my throne, our father’s throne. Now come, get ready, change into your ridding dress; take your cloak, your dagger and crossbow. I’ve to get our Professor also.”
“Uncle threw him into a cell, third one on second right turn.” She said, wiping her tears.
“Get ready and come to there, I’m heading there now. Don’t take time.” He said, wiping all her tear a placing a kiss on her cheek, chuckling at last words.
She chuckled with him, “Alright, where are we going?” she asked sliding out of her bed.
“To Aslan’s How; but first we have some business to take care of. The Narnian army is waiting outside for me to open the –”
“You mean… there’s going to be some war here?” she asked.
“Not a war just an attack. It’s time for someone to pay for what he did. Now tell me Cery, did Miraz hurt you or anything?” he asked.
“No, he didn’t.”
“Okay now listen, no matter what happens here, promise me you’ll stay out of all troubles?” he asked.
“I will.”
“Once you get to Professor, you both go to the stables, agree?” he asked.
“Agreed!” she said.
Caspian smiled and walked to the door.
“Cas wait!” Cerlesta called.
He turned and before realizing, he was caught up in a hug by her, he hugged back.
“I love you, be careful. I’ve learned that, uncle hates you. Promise me you won’t leave me again.” She whispered.
His arms tightened around her, he rested his chin on her head and whispered to her hair,
“I promise with my whole life, I will never ever leave you again. I’ll take care and that goes double for you. I love more.” He whispered and placed a kiss on her head.
She pulled back. He squeezed her hand before letting it go and exited her room to find the Professor. She stood still, watching him exiting her room.
‘I’m not dreaming. Cas’s finally here to save me. It’s really happening!’ her mind shouted with joy.
Cerlesta washed her face, walked to her closet, grabbed a ridding dress and cloak and put it on. She brushed her hair and let it wavy down; only managed to clip back some front hair from avoiding falling to face. She tied her dagger to her waist and then put on her riding boots and gloves.
Taking her crossbow, which was hanging on the wall of her bed, she exited her room taking a small peeking at the mirror.
The plus point was, she didn’t take much time.
She held her crossbow in her hands and walked through the corridors to the dungeon, silently.
As she turned to a right path, she bumped into a solid wall. Startled, she took a step back but two strong hands from the dark caught her shoulders.
“Hey, it’s me.” Said the voice in which she let out a long deep breath she was holding since she bumped.
“Caspian, you frigh –”
“Go and get Professor, head to the stables and don’t come out until I come to get you, now go.” He said and passed her.
“Wait, where are you…-” she asked but trailed off as he left in a hurry.
‘Wow, he sounded very serious.’ She thought as she continued her wall to Professor.
Before she even reached there, she met him and made their way to the stables, expecting all worse things to take place a few time sooner or later right there in castle.
The thought of ‘attack’ made her shiver because she has only read such things in books.
Between all these, she also couldn’t help thinking about the old Narnian monarchs who are now here somewhere in her home.
