Chapter 2

|Annaly's POV|

I still had my eyes closed, my head pounding. I felt a foreign weight around my neck and realized that my pendant was with me already. I squinted my eyes, trying to get them adjusted even after that awful trip. I slowly sat up, spots dancing in my vision. As the spots went away I realized that I was in another room. This one seemed a lot nicer, but I could tell it was all show. I heard the door open and a plump little lady walked in, pushing a janitors cart with her.

"House keeping!" She pipped, glancing around and finally resting her gaze on me. "Oh dear! Another one already?" She shook her head and muttered something about dangerous transportation.

"Wh-who are you?" My voice finally squeaked out. I internally cringed, knowing that I'd have to work on my speaking skills if I was to have any success whatsoever.

"Oh good lord, where are my manners?! I'm Anniela dearie. Call me Annie though. I'm here to help all new guardians, but you seem a bit young to be doing this. How many tasks have you done before this, exactly?" She spoke with an odd accent, making her seem innocent when her eyes told a different story. They were wise, cold, and kind all at the same time.

"I-uh none really," I replied. Dear lord I need speech therapy.

"Well, first off here." She walked up to me and handed me two pills and a glass of water. "For your head"

I quickly swallowed them and drank the remaining water. Who knew teleportation could fuck you up this much? I could hear her muttering to herself but didn't really bother listening to her. I mostly focused on how the water jiggled. After a while the head ache got better. Not normal, but better.

She smiled and grabbed a book before sitting on the edge of the bed. "Now, is it ok if I do a healing spell? The pills can help, but with teleportation it takes something more... magical,"

I started to nod but since that made things ten times worse I just weakly agreed and laid down. She opened the book and started to mutter some words that I didn't understand or even try to. The pounding finally seemed to go away after she was done, though and I was finally able to move my head without feeling like a war was in my head. I sat up with ease and was finally able to stand up. I paced around before I finally looked at my new pendant. It had a silver carving of a pair of wings with an obsidian stone in the middle. It was all connected with a delicate silver chain. I loved it immediately, and was glad that I wouldn't have any urge to take it off. I couldn't anyway, as that was against the rules.

It finally occurred to me that I could see what I looked like for the first time! I ran to the bathroom, still a little unsteady, and almost ran into the counter. I gripped onto the smooth surface as I took in my appearance for the first time.

I had raven black hair that was ombré with the brightest violet I had ever seen. My eyes contrasted largely with my hair, having largely sea green iris with a dark blue circle around it. My skin was a lot tanner than I had anticipated, though it was still noticeable that I was a European white. I realized that I was naked, and was quick to cross my arms over my C cup chest.

Annie came in after me, smiling as she watched me experience my first reflection of myself. "Is this your first time seeing yourself dearie? I remember my first time... such a weird sight after you've been dead, eh?" I gave her a confused face and her laugh quickly dropped to a look of concern. "You do remember how you were before you died, right?" I shook my head and she gasped. "You remember nothing?! Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! And the council sent you as a guardian?!"

"Th-they thought it would be the best way to get my memory back," I replied, my voice only a whisper. She huffed and handed me some clothes before stomping out and muttering a spell. I was decent enough not to listen as she had just contacted the council. I put on the out fit she gave me, which ended up being ripped black jeggings and an oversized sweat shirt. She had also given me a bra and underwear (obviously) that were built more for comfort than style. Annie came back a while later, a frustrated look on her tired face.

"Ok, apparently you are going to be guarding a girl that goes to a private school. I'll get you in and get your backpack ready. You get some sleep. You have a big day ahead of you," she smiled sweetly and walked back out with the janitor's cart.

I flopped back onto my bed and landed on some pjs that had appeared from magic. I sighed and threw them on, dreading the task ahead of me. I lay down and was asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow.
