I lay and look up at the sky

The light fading from its expanse

I see the bright light of a planet

The cool breeze surrounding does dance

The sky still is lit from the sun

The stars as yet can't be seen

But I can now just make out a glimmer

A sparkle of stars still unseen

The stars are there just beyond the blue

Earth is waiting for their beauty to show

My heart is now thrilled with excitement

It seems that the sun sets too slow

But as light slips away for the darkness

The glitter of stars now appear

And my eyes quietly gleam for their splendour

Starlight so far yet so near
