City Lights

Standing high above the city

Nestled in a valley of darkness

Millions of lights

Shine upward

Like stars

A mirror of the heavens

 Moonlight teasing

 The corners of leaves

Shimmering in the wind of the mountain

 My eyes

Glittering pools of wonder

See the existence of thousands of people

In a single glance

The lights of their life

Enchant me to know

Where their busy feet tread

 My young feet press

Against tender grass

That lives but for a moment

Offspring of the mountain

Standing strong

Against the rising and fall of the sun

A falling star

Streaks across the sky

Burning into nonexistence

 City Lights still sparkling

How long until they weary

Fading away

Succumbing to the inky blackness

Replaced by new bulbs

Monopolized with electricity?

The mountain will crumble to dust

The stars shall fall

Each to their glory

And I too shall leave

But these lights

Shall they eternally shine?
