A Box of Kittens
They were right there, like literally, right there. How do you expect anyone to just walk past a box of mewling kittens? Just a bunch of little fuzz balls squirming around, and climbing over each other just to try and get out of the brown box. What kind of monster would leave these poor, defenseless, adorable, creatures out in the rain?
"What'cha got there, Levi?"
"Nothing."
Hanji stopped the corporal in the hallway as he was on his way to his room, curious as to why he was carrying a dirty, wet, brown box and what was in it. He seemed on edge, they noticed, and could hear the smallest footsteps coming from within the box. Levi was about to shove them out of the way before more questions were asked, until one of the kittens meowed.
"...What was that?" Hanji questioned, trying to hold down their smirk.
"What was what?" Levi retorted, hoping he could convince the scientist that he wasn't sneaking cats into the Survey Corps HQ.
"It sounded like a meow."
"I don't know what you're talking about." The black haired man said, finally walking past Hanji. "Now I have things to do." He walked at a fast pace, hoping not to run into anyone else.
"Ah! Corporal!" Shit. "I finished cleaning the second floor, if you wanna check it out." Eren said, noticing Levi as soon as he turned the corner.
"I'll look at it later." He said, continuing past the confused boy. The clean freak didn't want to look at his work and tell him to do it over again? It's the end of the world.
Said clean freak finally got to his room, and closed the door behind him before opening the box. The meowing got louder and the squirming continued. He reached in and took a kitten out, inspecting it before concluding he should give them a bath. Who knows where they've been.
He walked into the bathroom to turn the water on, leaving the kittens in the box on his bed. Unknowing to the short man, only four kittens remained in the box. The fifth one? That little one managed to crawl out of the box, and paw at the door which wasn't actually closed all the way (someone was in too much of a rush to notice).
Somewhere in HQ, a little red kitten with big green eyes wandered around, sniffing various objects before rubbing her face on it. With no one in sight, the little kitten ran around recklessly, until she turned a corner. She stopped in her tracks, and peered up at the boy standing in front of her. Eren blinked, even more confused at the fact there was a kitten in HQ. What happened to the strict 'no pets' rule? That's when he connected Levi's strange behavior to the small creature in front of him.
"Now what are you doing here? Did you sneak out of Corporal's room?" The green eyed boy bent over and picked up the light animal before walking back to Levi's room. On the way there, he saw the man in the hallway, who tried to hide the fact he was looking for something. When he noticed Eren walking in his direction, he stopped his search before calmly walking in the boy's direction, glancing around every now and then.
"Missing something?" Eren asked, holding the red kitten out to Levi. His face got a little red, and he wordlessly took the cat from the Titan shifter.
"Don't you dare tell anyone." Levi hissed under his breath.
"I won't, but mind telling me why you have a kitten?" Eren asked, smiling at the purring feline.
"Um, I may have accidentally sort of adopted five cats." He said, glancing away from Eren.
The boy chuckled at his corporal's fondness for cats. "So what's her name?"
Levi looked down at the red cat, thinking of her name. "Isabel."
