New Kid On The Block
When I was younger my family and I moved to this small town, and we lived in a friendly neighborhood. There were lots of kids so naturally, I made a lot of friends. But there was one person I was very close with. His name was Oliver Brennon.
I grew up with him and we were best friends. He lived in a small house at the end of the road. We would always play after school. Oliver was homeschooled so he would visit me after school. Oliver was a very quiet boy, and he didn't have any friends. The day we met was one of the best days of my life.
I had just moved in and I was too shy to talk to the other kids so I walked down the road and noticed another little boy about my age playing hopscotch on the sidewalk. I was too shy to approach him but he noticed me and walked over. He looked at me and introduced himself, then he asked me if I would like to play with him. I said yes, and that was how our friendship started.
Oliver told me he was homeschooled, so I would always go to his house to play after my school had finished. I never got a chance to meet Oliver's parents, he told me that his dad worked overseas and that his mum had a disease and was bedridden. When he told me about his mum I felt really bad for him and asked if I could bake her some cookies and give them to her, but he said that his mum's disease was contagious and that even he couldn't see her. I always felt a bit bad for Oliver as all the other kids used to treat him like he didn't exist.
I spent almost my entire childhood in that town. But when I turned 14 my parents made us move away. I grew up and went to college, but I never forgot about Oliver...
Today I'll be having a reunion with all of my friends from my old town and I can't wait to see Oliver again.
* * * *
I just arrived at the restaurant where we'll all be meeting up. But I don't see Oliver anywhere... Disappointment clouds me as I slowly walk over to my seat and sit down.
Every time I hear the front door of the restaurant open my head shoots up in expectation to see Oliver's face. But I never see him...
Maybe he's too busy to come?
Or maybe... he just doesn't want to see me...
One of my friends notices my disappointment and turns to look at me.
"What's wrong?" they ask.
"Nothing."
"Something is clearly bothering you. Tell me what's wrong, Lila" they insist.
I look at them and sigh "I just... I was just expecting to see my old friend Oliver..."
My friend looks at me with disbelief "What. You mean that imaginary friend of yours?"
"My imaginary friend? He isn't imaginary. He's always been there. You guys have just been too occupied to notice him."
My friend looked at me and took my hand in theirs "Lila... There was no Oliver, we even asked your mum about who this Oliver was. She just told us that he was your imaginary friend. All of us were always so confused as to why you would always go visit that house. Nobody ever lived there after the murder..."
"What... What murder?..." I manage to squeak out.
"It happened long before you and you're parents moved in. A little boy died in that house. His father was an alcoholic. One day his dad got drunk and he... he shot the boy... The boy's mother on the other hand..."
"Was sick with a disease and was bedridden..." I finished, remembering what Oliver had told me years ago when I asked.
"Yes... And she died a few months after due to depression... The father ran away and was never to be heard of again..."
"This can't be..." I said as tears filled my eyes.
"Why do you think your parents made you move away? They were expecting you to forget about Oliver and move on with your life. But you kept insisting he was real."
I stood up and started to head for the door.
"Lila! Where are you going?!" my friends shouted as I walked out of the restaurant.
I didn't reply and started to head to my car.
Tears stung my eyes as I pulled my keys out and unlocked my car.
"LILA WATCH OUT!"
I turned around but before I could do anything a large truck came crashing into my car.
I was flung across the road.
I could feel liquid dripping from my head.
My whole body is aching.
I feel tired...
I just want to close my eyes and rest...
I can hear people calling my name in the distance...
Can't they just let me rest?..
I shut my eyes, and when I open them again I am met with a familiar face.
Oliver?
He's standing over me and he's dressed in white.
He looks down at me and smiles with his hand reached out for me.
I grab hold of his hand and allow him to pull me up.
Neither of us says anything.
But deep down we both know that we're happy to see each other again.
With my hand in his, Oliver pulls me along with him.
"It's nice to see you again old friend," Oliver says quietly as he guides me to the bright shining light that has appeared in front of us.
Slowly both of us step in, hand in hand.
Hey, Lovelies! How've you been? I don't really think this story falls under scary but whatever- I was bored and decided to do something different for once so I came up with this for an ending. What do you think? I hope you guys liked it :3 If not, it's fine :D personally, I think I did a pretty decent job UwU
