Hazel
It was the final battle. No matter where Hazel turned, there was blood and gore everywhere. The gods hadn't appeared to help defeat Gaea. Of course they hadn't. Now it was up to the demigods to save Olympus.
Percy swung his sword at a giant, but Porphyrion merely grabbed it and bent it. Percy let out a cry. "Not Riptide, you idiotic thing!" To Hazel's utter surprise, a hurricane started to form below him from anger. "Come at me," Percy cried furiously. Porphyrion merely laughed.
"You are no match for me, boy," Porphyrion answered angrily. He stuck out his hand and Percy's hurricane disappeared. Percy fell to the ground, gasping.
"Percy!" Hazel cried, kicking back the monsters she was fighting. She stabbed one in the gut and ran off towards her friend. He was doubled over, gasping and struggling for air. "Percy?" she fell to the ground next to him and took him in her arms as Porphyrion laughed.
"Hazel Levesque, there is no hope. He has no more water in his body at all. He can not survive."
Hazel glared at him. She refused to believe him. "Eat jewels, Porphyrion!" she cried, waving her hand. Porphyrion's eyes widened as glittering diamonds fell out of the sky and hit him in the throat.
"Arg!" he screamed, falling over. Hazel grabbed Percy and started tugging him towards the ocean.
"Hazel," Percy gurgled. He gave another gasp and seemed to claw the air. "Water."
"I'll get you water," promised Hazel, brushing the hair from her face. She knew she'd need to hurry- jewels wouldn't stop Porphyrion for long, and the other monsters and giants might attack them.
Hazel looked helplessly around. Everyone was busy fighting. A bear she knew to be Frank was fighting a giant singlehandedly. Annabeth and Reyna were taunting another giant and a few Cyclopses, and had their hands full. Nico, Leo, Jason and Piper were all fighting a group of three giants, and the huntresses of Artemis teamed up with the Amazons to take down the rest of the monsters. Nobody could help her. She'd have to carry Percy to the ocean herself.
Hazel scooped her hands under Percy's legs and neck, and struggled to her feet. Her face strained, she started to walk towards the ocean. She stumbled once, but kept going.
"Hazel, look out!" Frank cried from behind her, and Hazel heard a whoosh. Sudden heat seemed to fill her, and she tried not to look at her back. She had a bad feeling... her head was getting cloudy... she can't think straight... she must get Percy to the ocean.
"Hazel. You're on fire," muttered Percy, his eyes widening a bit.
Hazel ignored her panic and pain. "I need to get you to the ocean," she told him, and he closed his eyes again.
Finally, after a few more steps, they made it. Hazel dropped Percy into the ocean and fell in herself. The heat melted away instantly, and Hazel felt much cooler. Next to her, Percy opened her eyes and stared at her. "Hazel, your back!" he cried, evidently having regained all his strength. He stood up and ripped away parts of her shirt to look at her back, and Hazel cried out in pain. Percy looked horrified. "It's all...burned up." He whispered, his eyes widened and his face absolutely scared.
Still in a sort of trance, Hazel reached out and touched Percy's face tenderly. "Tell Frank and Nico I love them," she muttered. Her eyes watered. "I'll- I'll tell Pluto. He'll come to fight. Don't let me have died in vain, Percy."
"You shouldn't have done that," Percy's eyes also started to water, and he looked away. "You shouldn't have to die for me, Hazel."
"Promise, Percy," Hazel brushed away his tears. "Promise you'll tell them. Promise to fight."
"I will," Percy answered miserably. Hazel smiled and looked up at the sky.
She closed her eyes for the last time.
