Books, Like People
The cover of thine
Is remarkably fine.
Let us page the contents,
So as to dismiss future laments.
Ah, so loyal are thou -
Would put you this to a vow?
So beautiful are you -
Will it hold strong when all is through?
Turn upon thy page,
And faintly may I see past your cage
Like a lonesome creature,
Eager to exhibit all it has to feature,
Neglecting the all-consuming flaws
Not without some tenable cause.
Change upon thy chapter,
Oh how those pleasures entrapped her
And may but I try to emulate
All those of your past fate
But even there you affirm
This was meant of only a short term.
Upon your epilogue we progress
And alas, without much success,
An inauspicious meeting we shared!
But I believe we have become unpaired.
So let us close the book
And find another story through which to look.
