Chapter 10
Elizabeth was careless and she got caught. She was feeling very disappointed because of that. Hands grabbed her and she struggled to push the person away. Their grip was tight and she found her body being tightened. It was getting hard to breathe for her.. She growled and threw her head back hitting the guy in the face. He groaned and released her, staggering back. The guy ran to the wall on Ogre's left and pressed a button there. Alarms began wailing. Elizabeth was shocked. "How in the world did I not notice that?" she asked herself.
She shook her head and ran away as fast as she could. But waiting for her at the entrance she came from were Ogre's gang. They were blocking the way. Elizabeth took deep breaths and rationalized the situation after scanning for a way out.
There was no need for fighting them. There was another way out. She turned and ran towards the roof of a house, then jumped up and landed on the roof. She continued running on the roof, while dodging bullets aimed at the roof. She looked behind her and saw that some of the gang members had gotten on the roof! They were chasing her, while others were following suit on the ground below.
Out of breath while running, Elizabeth pulled out the gloves again and put them on. She thrusted her hand upwards as she neared the edge of the last house. The threads shot out from the gloves. She hoisted herself up and began swinging forward. She didn't stop until she was sure the gang members were left behind and she was far away. She was out on the streets and she stopped to catch her breath.
She was sweaty. She squinted under the sunlight and waited for her eyes to clear. Her whole body was sore from the guy's grip. She was bruised, but she could still function. A carriage stopped in front of her and her face lit up with recognition at the face popping out from the curtains. "Earl Ash, it's an unexpected pleasure to see you again" "Please excuse the mess I look like, I was in a bit of a pickle" The Earl chuckled. "I would think so Lady Elizabeth with how injured you look" "Get in" Elizabeth nodded. The carriage resumed moving after the horses were whipped at and started moving. It was silent. "How have you been my lady?" Earl Ash asked.
Elizabeth shook her head and smiled. "I've been doing ok, what about you Dear Earl?" "I'm just the same as you," he replied. "Thanks for giving me directions last time" "you see I'm still new here, but your advice really helped me navigate this city" Elizabeth only continued to look at him, while he continued. "It's so beautiful too!"
"Not as beautiful as you," Elizabeth murmured. "Pardon, did you say something?" he asked curiously as he tilted his head. Elizabeth blushed and shook her head for the second time. "No, nothing important" Earl Ash's eyes bore into hers and she felt the urge to look away. For some reason Earl Ash was the only man to make her feel this giddy, or sometimes angry. He was quite the boastful guy, but it strangely didn't turn her away. He smirked. "If you say so dearie"
"Anyway, where do you want me to drop you off?" Elizabeth looked out the window of the moving carriage. "Sorry, but my destination is somewhere back where you came from" "City Redacted " Earl Ash nodded. "Ah, of course" "it's truly no problem" The two fell in silence again and it wasn't until they arrived, that the silence was broken. The Earl helped Elizabeth up and knelt then kissed the back of her hand. Elizabeth blushed and snatched her hand away. The response simply elicited a chuckle and a smirk from the Earl. "Looks like my charm's working"
