Tips To Help Better Your OCs

No one likes perfect OCs, or what we like to call Mary Sue/Gary Stue. Tips on how to save your OCs from being like that!

•Tip 1: do NOT take away flaws that your OC has. Mistakes make your OC, as well as their strong points.

    •Example: Sora, the main protagonist
from Kingdom Hearts is strong and
courageous. However, he is at times
simple minded and he even breaks
      down during battle in Kingdom
      Hearts III

•Tip 2: Do NOT name your OC with a Japanese name, unless they are in any fandoms that are Japanese based or you have created a story Japanese based. Name should depend on their personality, culture, and their looks.

•Example: If your OC is from My Little
Pony, it would be weird if you have a
     Japanese name since horses, unicorns,
or whatever your OC is in this universe
live where characters that has a name
    of Celestia.

•Tip 3: Do NOT say that they like to protect their friends/family or hate despair/evil/darkness/etc. It's pretty much most seen in OCs, I've noticed, and it's pretty much a given. Most characters will show that in the story anyway. I will admit, I am guilty of putting that info on reference sheets and OC profiles but don't do it.

   •Example: ...I really don't have an
example. If you guys can provide one,
      that would be really cool.

These are some tips that I (try) to follow. If you have ideas, let me know! I would be more than happy to read everyone's ideas and opinions on this!
