A chunk of Carrot
Thanks to AnimeGameGirl for helping me with this part.
I teleported above a small dirt plot. The ground was barely wet, and there was small plants lined up in rows. I was on the end of one particular row, and it had a white mini sign at the start. It was a picture of a long, orange plant.
Huh. Wonder what that is?
I sat up, and walked around the small greenery. And I was amazed how organized it the plot was. Little baskets were filled with berries, I didn't see any plants out of line, and I didn't see a stray tool.
There where I was, the plants were close to my height. Farther down the plot, the plants grew to a jungle. Along every row, there was a black pipe with a knob every five plants- all were upright. I followed the little trails on the ground, and walked underneath gigantic bushes. The branches were covered with little thorns, and bright red berries were growing beneath the leaves. I summoned a bone, and aimed it at a berry. It hit, and it landed right on me.
Taking a small bite, it was sour with a little bit of sweetness.
And I guess something else was interested. I heard a sniffing behind me. Slowly turning around, I saw a big grey, furry creature with two long ears. The nose was pink, and the front two teeth were pretty big when it stole my berry.
"Hey!"
The creature got onto its hind legs, and continued to munch on the berry before going to the leaves.
"Stop that! Someone worked very hard to make it nice, and you can't just destroy their work!"
I tried to pull, push, scare, and attack the furry, cottontail animal. It ignored all of my attempts. Apparently I wasn't enough of a threat.
Summoning a bone I aimed it, and let it go. It hit, then fell to the ground. The creature turned and looked at me for a second, then it went back to eating.
Dang it.
While I stopped to think of a new plan, the black pipe began hissing. Then it began to rain.
Well, not raining, just getting sprayed by the knobs on the hose. The creature stopped and hopped away. The ground below me kept getting more marshlike the more water it soaked up.
Standing up, my left foot sank in the mud.
Not now, anytime but now.
I attempted to pull it out, with no luck. So I tried harder.
I will not, urgh, lose my, mmr, shoe, ugh, to a PUDDLE! *POP*
I fell onto my back after pulling it out. Checking my shoe, I knew that I hadn't lost a segment. Only now my orange hoodie was stuck.
The spraying stopped, and a Bitty walked over.
"You having problems there?"
I turned to him. He looked like Blue, but he had overalls and a straw hat on, along with a white shirt under the straps.
"Yes. Mind lending a hand?"
"Neop."
"Hm, thanks. What's your name?"
"Good question. I don't know. I've been here most of my life, and haven't had a human to name me."
"Well, looks like you keep everything here pretty tidy."
"To an extent. Often times a stray dog, toy, or human comes in here and crushes something. There's been one thing that hasn't been broken yet, and that's my bush home. I also have a few Bitties come by to help out and eat."
He pointed to a large black berry bush that was a ways down from where we were.
"What about you, Hoodie, where you come from?"
"First off, my name is Carrot, and I came from- oh crap. My human, Jana, is probably worried sick about where I am. I gotta get back."
I got ready to run. Till overalls grabbed me.
"Hold your horses now. You need a plan first. But even before that, I need to check the post."
"Sorry?"
He began to make his way up a red berry plant. I followed him, making use of the little thorns. Eventually I got to the top.
It wasn't tall, but from where I were on the ground it was high. I could see a large body of water to my left, an odd grey circle far to my right, and behind me."That's Jana over there!"
I began to wave towards her direction. Then I heard a small vehicle
"Duck!"
Overalls pulled me down, and we both barely avoided the hooves of a horse. That itself made a pretty good dent in the garden. But what really did it was a golf cart. And of course it took out all the bushes. Overall's straw hat came flying off with the wind.
"T-that's never h-happened before. They NEVER let horses, or golf carts, in the park! And now."
He spread his arms out to the ruined crops.
"For once I'm without cover, food, . . or shade. I-I'm sorry fellow, but I don't know how to help ya." He sat down, curled up, and began to cry.
I slowly walked over and picked up his hat. Looking on it, I saw some writing, but it was too squiggly to read.
I placed it on his head," Your right, but I can help you." He quickly grabbed the hat and held it tight.
"How?"
"Simple. Invite you to come live with us. Jana is a great human, and she took me in without question."
"R-really? I haven't had a family since. Since my brother dusted."
"Oh. Was that writing, your brother's?"
"*sniff* yep. he wrote it to try and prove how lucky he was to have me as a brother. more like I was the lucky one to have him so long."
"How did he, .?"
"Hard winter. I was sick, and he kept shortening his ration to make sure I was well. He dusted of weakness and hunger.
He dusted because of me."
"It's not your fault. It was his choice. He didn't want to lose you."
I hugged overalls, and comforted him. A few moments passed, when we were both gently picked up. Looking towards my human, she gave those kind of smiles. You know, when someone feels sorry for someone else.
She carried us both back, with Farmer falling asleep holding onto both of us.
