I looked myself in the mirror for the last time before heading out for work.

Gosh! I look terrible these days. I feel terrible these days.

The kiss that night is just glued in my mind. No matter how much I try to forget about it, it wouldn't leave me.

Like he said it was just a simple kiss. But why is that simple kiss bothering me so much?

I've told myself several times to get over it, to stop thinking about it but I lose to myself every time.

I drove in the parking lot and saw everybody had arrived. Am I late? I looked at my watch. No, I'm 10 minutes early.

I parked my car and stepped out, when my phone rings.

"Good morning Anna. I'm in the parking lot. Wait till I-"

"Come up to the meeting hall quickly. You're dead today." She said cutting me off mid sentence.

"What? Did something happen?" I asked getting tensed.

"Come up now." Anna demanded. "Then you'll see what mess you're in."

What have I done?

I rushed to the elevator. My body didn't feel right. I didn't do anything wrong. Did I ?

I stepped out of the elevator quickly and hurried towards the meeting hall. I noticed Anna standing outside the hall pacing back and forth anxiously.

"Anna?" I said nervously.

She turned around.

"Kaesy. Thank God you're here. Listen to me, this might not feel good but you have to bear it." She said looking straight into my eyes.

"What's wrong? Anna. Just tell me already." I said getting frustrated.

"You'll see. Come let's go in."

She pulled open the door. As soon as I stepped in, I heard a bursting sound followed by a loud chorus of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY".

"Happy birthday Kaesy." Anna said and hugged me.

I was too surprised and happy to see what they had done for me. How did they know it was my birthday?

"Ho- how did you know?" I asked.

"Come on we see each other everyday and you're my friend how can I not even know when your birthday is." Anna replied.

"Our friend, Anna our friend." Robert, the manager corrected her.

"Ok fine our friend." Anna said rolling her eyes.

Robert chuckled."Happy birthday Kaesy." He said giving me a hug.

"Thank you." I said. "All of you. This is great. I'm really happy."

"It's time for cutting the cake." Mellisa, the editor announced excitedly.

Anna pushed me near the the table. A pretty cake with burning candles on top was gleaming at me.

"Blow the candles." Mellisa said.

I blew the candles and everyone clapped in unison. I took the knife beside the cake and started to cut it while the rest started to sing the Happy birthday song.

I took a piece of cake and shove it inside Anna's mouth. Everyone started laughing hard.

"What is going on here?" I heard a coarse voice. I looked around and saw Reuben standing beside the door.

Everyone immediately stopped laughing and looked at each other helplessly.

"We-we are just celebrating Kaesy's birthday sir." Mellisa spoke up.

"I- I'm really sorry we can stop-"

"No. You can continue." Reuben said cutting me off mid sentence and left.

"Whoops that was close." Robert said and everyone started laughing again.

He didn't even bothered to wish me.

It was in the middle of the day when I heard a knock at the door.

"Come in." I called out.

Anna stepped in with a bunch of files with her.

"Here take these. You need to check it through by tonight." Anna said placing the files on my desk.

"That's a lot. Don't you think?" I looked at her pleadingly.

"They are not from me. They're from boss." Anna replied.

I just gave her a defeating look.

"Kaesy, don't you think boss is acting weird this days?" Anna said.

"What do you mean?" I asked surprised at her sudden question.

"This morning he didn't seem to mind us celebrating your birthday at all." Anna said.

"Aahh so you mean he's weird just because he didn't get mad at us. That's stupid." I replied.

"I've been noticing lately. Both of you are acting weird this days." She said and looked at me suspiciously.

"Haha very funny." I replied sarcastically.

"I think you like each other."

"No way." I replied immediately.

It was 7:00 pm already when I finished the last page of the file. I closed the file victoriously when I noticed a note sticked to the cover of the file.

Come up to the roof of the office when you are done. I'll be waiting.

Who could this be? I grabbed my bag and hurried up to the the roof.

As I reached there I saw a table with candles, a rose in the middle and Reuben was standing beside it in tuxedo.

He looked handsome even from behind.

"What are all these?" I asked stepping forward.

He turned around.

"You're here which indicates you've finished your work." He said ignoring my question.

"Are you testing me?" I said teasing him.

"Perhaps." He replied. "Come sit." He said pulling out the chair.

"Wh-what are all these?" I asked taking my place.

"This, is a candlelight dinner and my birthday gift to you." He said. "Happy birthday."

"I don't understand why are you doing this for me." I said.

"Why can't I?" He smirked.

Now, what Anna said was true. This is weird. I was confused. What was this dinner all about. What did he wanted? Why would he want to celebrate my birthday?

We finished our dinner, talked about silly stupid things. I've never seen this side of him.

And soon we were standing leaning against the wall enjoying the beautiful night.

"Thank you." I said. "Believe it or not no one has ever done this for me."

"You deserve much more than this." He replied.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked again looking at him.

He grabbed my shoulder. I was stunned at his sudden reaction. He looked away from me, gave a heavy sigh and then turned around to face me again.

"I love you, Kaesy." Reuben said.

My heart stopped. I was frozen. I didn't know what to do. This is not real.

"No no this can't be true. You're just playing with me again." I said trying to free myself from his grip.

"Kaesy, I really love you. I'm sorry if I hurt you before but this time I really mean what I say."

"Please! Stop this. I won't fall for your trick again." I replied firmly.

"This is not a trick, Kaesy. Listen to me. I had been a jerk before for making you cry but this is true. I can't stop thinking about you."

"I had been pushing you away be-because I was scared of things but not anymore. I want you, only you."

"You do?" I said tears welling up my eyes.

"Yes, I do. I love you. I really love you." He said hugging me tightly."Please say you love me too."

I couldn't stop crying. I loved him too.

"I love you too." I said.

"You do?" He asked.

I nodded my head. He cupped my face with his hands and slowly bend down to kiss me.

He kissed me gently and passionately. My lips moving in the sync with him. Our lips dancing together with the soft music of the pale moonlight.
