Where's Jenny? Part 3

Meanwhile just outside of town, Millie and Jordon sat down by a trio of large trees. Millie had a worried look on her face and buried her head in her lap. Frustrated, she sighed deep and looked over at Jordon.

"What are we going to do?" she asked. "That woman saw us." She pointed her finger in the direction of the village.

"We can't worry about that now," Jordon said, slowly rising to his feet. He paced slowly, between two of the large trees. "First, we need to find the others." He pulled down an apple and handed it to Millie.

She took a small bite, but she wasn't very interested in eating. "I just don't know why we got separated," Millie said, looking as if she were about to cry. She dropped the half-eaten apple on the ground and rose to her feet. "It's never happened before. Every time we reentered, we were all together. Why was this time different?"

"I think Charlie had something to do with that," Jordon said, hearing a whisper of his sister's voice in his head. She was back in their true time, but being the powerful psychic she was, she still able to keep in contact with him and with Charlie. "When we shifted out of time, he shifted at the exact same moment we did. Dora says it might have caused a disturbance."

"So, you're still talking to Dora?" Millie asked, looking a little skeptical. "Her powers have always been a little creepy, but..."

"It's not creepy, Millie," Jordon said as he cleaned off his glasses. There was a little dirt on them, which was impairing his vision. "Being siblings, we're naturally connected."

"That whole twin thing," she said and looked around. "Did she say where the others are?" Millie had a worried look on her face, and Jordon didn't want to freak her out any more than she already was.

"She's only connected to me and Charlie, and as far as she can tell they're not with him," he said, and Millie shook her head in frustration.

"Oh great," Millie said, throwing up her arms in defeat.

"It may be a blessing that Charlie isn't with them," Jordon said, which did give Millie some relief. "With Reese and Denny around he wouldn't have a chance.

"Hey, Cree is just as tough a fighter as they are, maybe more so," she said, giving him an angry look." She turned away in disgust, which made Jordon go pale in the face. "So, when did you become a chauvinist?"

"I didn't mean it that way," Jordon said, desperate to explain himself. "I was thinking that after the last time he tried to kill her, she might be a little intimidated."

"Well, I'll be glad when Charlie is locked up where he belongs," She said with a worried look on her face. "...and I'll personally give him some electroshock therapy." She gave him a cheeky grin, but something told Jordon that she wasn't bluffing.

"The first thing we need to do is figure out when and where we are," he said as she looked around again. All there was in their vicinity was grass and trees, and the dirt path to the village, but neither of them wanted to take a chance of going into town, especially not in the modern clothes they were wearing.

"That's easy to say, but we don't even know where to start looking." Millie stopped talking, as a thought entered her mind, which caused a horrified look to come to her face. "What if they were transported somewhere else... to a different time maybe? How will we find them then?"

"No, Millie, they're here," Jordon said, trying to calm her down. "We're all here in this time, I just know it. They're here, and... somewhere close."

"I just wish we knew where we are, and where our friends are," Millie said with a scared look on her face. "Sometimes, I wish we could just go home."

"Not until our mission is done," he said thinking back to their first jump after his powers went out of control. "Remember, we made a promise to the ancients to get that crystal back."

"Yeah, I know, but I miss our friends," she said with a sad look in her eyes.

"Even Denny?" Jordon asked, trying to made her burst out into giggles. She then nodded her head in answer to his question and leaned over and kissed him.

"Thanks, Jordon," she said, giving him the first genuine smile, since they landed in this this strange new place.

"Come on, Millie," Jordon said, reaching for her hand. "Let's get out of here, before anyone else sees us."

Millie gasped, which gave Jordon cause to worry. "It's too late," she said, pointing to a man who looked to be in his twenties. His long dark hair was tied back, and he carried with him a tomahawk. Millie could see a small knife sticking out of his boot, which made her a little on edge but not fearful. Jordon stayed on his guard, and took a few steps in front of Millie.

"Stand back," he said to her, looking as if he was ready to attack the man.

"Jordon, please," she said, refusing to be shielded by him. "I can take care of myself." She stepped forward facing the man who was much taller than she was. They we're still a few feet away when the man spoke.

"You're the ones," the man said, while pointing at them. He took a step towards them, but Jordon took a few paces back. He grabbed Millie's hand, trying to coerce her into following his lead, but she stood her ground.

"What do you mean, 'the ones'?" Millie asked, skeptical of the man's words.

"The ones Claudette was talking about," the man said, holding tight to his tomahawk. Jordon became defensive, like he was about to attack. "Wait a minute, son," he said, holding out his arms in defense. "I mean you no harm."

"Then who are you?" Millie asked. A small electrical charge came out of the tip of her fingers.

The man looked down seeing this but didn't look at all surprised. "No need to use your powers on me, Miss."

Millie raised her hand while the current in her hand grew larger. "Then who are you, and why should we trust you."

"My name is Nathaniel Ward, and I've come to help you," he said staring at the electrical current she conjured.

"Help?" Millie questioned, coming towards him. "Why would you help us?"

"Because I'm like you," he said and something made Millie believe him.

"The only thing we want is to find our friends and get out of here," Millie said, letting the current die until it completely disappeared.

"Please, I am here to be your guide," he said, dropping his weapon and putting his hands up in surrender. "I'm the best tracker in these parts."

"How can you help us find them?" Jordon asked.

"I can take you to someone who can help you," he said, pointing north beyond the forest. "My name is Nathaniel Ward." He held out his hand as Jordon appeared to have a stunned look on his face.

"Nathaniel Ward?" Jordon questioned, giving the man his hand reluctantly. "I can't believe I'm meeting you."

"Who is this guy?" Millie whispered.

"He's a famous Sadian warrior," he whispered back in excitement. "Raised by the Indians, fought in the wars. He's a true legend."

"So, he's cool?" Millie whispered to Jordon.

"I hope so," he whispered back, but Millie just rolled her eyes. Nathaniel looked confused as Millie held out her hand.

"Okay, I'm Millie Cooper, and this is my boyfriend Jordon Demsey," she said introducing them. "Exactly, where are we?"

"And when?" Jordon asked.

"This is Connecticut, Melville to be exact," he said, looking confused.

"And what year is it?" Millie asked, and Nathaniel looked shocked that she would ask a question like that.

"1710, but why do you ask?"

"Damn," Millie said in frustration. "I hate this. Jordon, I want to go home, back to our own time."

"Time?" Nathaniel asked. "Are you a time jumper?" He pointed a finger at Millie, directing the question more to her.

"No, but Jordon is," Millie said, looking over at her boyfriend. "We got here by accident, all because of Charlie and that stupid crystal."

"It wouldn't be a Sadian crystal, would it?" Nathaniel asked, looking intrigued.

"You got it," Millie said, letting her voice get away from her.

"And this Charlie?" Nathaniel asked. "Who is he, another from your time?"

"Yeah," Millie said and rolled her eyes. "He's the biggest jerk of the century, more like an eon. He stole the crystal from the ancients, and now it's up to us to get it back."

"How did you know about the Sadian crystals?" Jordon asked.

"Like you I am Sadian," Nathaniel said and picked up his tomahawk. "The elders of my tribe told stories of the ancients, and the knowledge crystals they created. There were many crystals, but one was so powerful that it could absorb the strength of an entire army."

"Yeah, we know about that one," Jordon said which made Nathaniel nervous. Hel looked up at the sky and saw that the light of day was slowly changing. "We need to go now. If the Judge finds out about you, he'll kill you."

"The Judge?" Jordon asked.

"No time to explain," Nathaniel said. "Now, come."

Millie and Jordon reluctantly followed him off into the unknown.
