Chapter One

Justice's arms were crossed. He leant back in his seat, an expression on his face which suggested he had just heard something ridiculous; something laughable.

"You want to leave." he scoffed. "You work here for years. You're the first person I ever trusted with this, and now you're telling me you want to leave."

Hans swallowed nervously and nodded. "Yes, Professor."

"Hans..." Justice rose from his seat. "My love, I don't think you quite understand. I cant allow you to leave. You know far too much."

"Well, Professor, you did tell me when we started that I was free to leave whenever I wanted."

Justice waved dismissively. "Times change. Things change. Hans, you are extraordinarily lucky that you can be here. You understand that?"

Hans nodded. "Yes, Professor. I understand that. I just... well, Heidi and I are getting on a bit, we're thinking of having children, you know..."

Justice laughed. "Oh, Hans, you're the worst liar I've met in my life. Come on, you're both far too old. I know why you want to leave. And I have to tell you, it won't happen."

Hans took a breath to steady himself. He had never gone against the Professor's wishes, and he felt anxious to do so. "Professor, who are you to stop me?"

Justice's face twisted into a scowl. "If you do so, every little thing you've worked for will be ripped away from you. Your wife. Your parents. The memory of your precious sister. Does that sound like a way to stop you?"

Hans fell silent, and Justice chuckled softly.

"That's a good boy. Now, go on. Back to work. We have fresh meat joining us!" he paused. "Come on, don't look so sullen. Go."

Hans raised from his seat. "Thank you for your time, Professor."

Justice watched him leave with a smile.

"Ha! Poker!" Ronny exclaimed.

Graymalkin looked up at his friend.Despite a lack of a face, he radiated annoyance. "How did you win again?!"

"You guys are playing that so incorrectly." Computer Head was sat a few feet away, lying on her front. Despite her name, she wasn't wearing her computer on her head, rather letting the stump of her neck be exposed.

"Well, Madame Head. You're the human expert. Come show us how." Ronny said.

"Well, I don't actually know how you play it." She took a blade of grass that was in Graymalkin's hand. "All I know is that these aren't involved."

"We'll play as we wish, thank you." Graymalkin replied, pointedly.

"Yeah, C.H. Don't you worry your pretty little head." Ronny added.

Computer Head turned her body in his direction, arms crossed. The realisation of what he had said dawned, and he looked away.

"Just, whatever, let's keep playing." he mumbled.

"Oh! Hold that thought. We have a new arrival. Let's go check out the damage, hm?"

The group got up, running through the purple grass, to the other side of the field.

There lay a woman. Her face could really only be described as 'perfect', long blonde hair framing her soft features. Her skin had paled, which was unsurprising. Looking downwards, she wore a white dress, which was stained with blood, still glistening.

"Oooh. Poor girl." Graymalkin mumbled. "Stab wounds."

"At least she kept her head." Computer Head sighed.

"C.H, you like to fixate on that, don't you?" Ronny said.

"Yeah, liebchen, it's cos I don't have a head and I kind of liked having one."

"Shhh! She's coming around." Graymalkin said.

The woman's eyes fluttered open. She looked around her, and screamed.

"Shhh! Shhh, darling, calm down." Graymalkin said.

"There's a woman without a head, there's a woman without a head, there's a woman without a head-"

"It's okay, it's okay. Deep breaths, in, out..."

Slowly, the woman seemed to come out of her shock.

"There we go. Now that we're calm, we can explain." Graymalkin said. "You have arrived in Realm A. Don't worry, I know we look less than inviting, but we truly mean no harm."

"Are you... are you angels?"

"Not quite. You're here... you're here because you died. And I'm afraid to tell you it wasn't an easy death. Look down."

She looked down at her bloody dress, and gasped.

"Now, you won't know anything about your life, or your name. I'm happy to tell you it becomes available, soon, and you can know all about who you were! All you retained for now, however is your body and your personality."

"Ah. Ah, right. That's fine. Because I'm gonna wake up, and it'll all be a dream, and of course I'll know who I am."

Graymalkin shook his head. "You'll come to terms with it, darling. Now... you should choose how you want us to refer to you."

"A name?"

"Yes! Anything you'd like."

The woman thought for a moment. "Lights. Camera. Action." She mumbled.

"Pardon?"

"Lights. Call me Lights."

"Well, Lights..." Graymalkin said. "Welcome to Realm A."
