Chapter One: Outside
Ten years later
.......................................
"You are the heir to the Von Muir family. Being so, you must learn about your future kingdom to be able to lead your people in the best way possible..." my mind drifted away from the tutor's lecture. I looked around the room with only a tutor and I, before looking out a window. Common children ran around, playing with one another... what I'd give to be with them instead of learning alone...
"Your highness!"
I snapped to attention. Tutor was upset...
"I'm sorry for not listening," I said before hanging my head dejectedly. The tutor's expression softened.
"It's alright, Edward, but you must pay attention. This information is very important!" There was a knock behind the library doors. "Come in," my tutor called out. The door opened, and my father stepped in before closing the door quietly.
"How are his lessons doing?" he asked my tutor.
"He's a very bright child, my liege. Very bright, but I do not think he is interested in political strategy, nor in royal history."
"Oh? What do you suggest then?"
"He's always looking out the windows. Seeing something is different from hearing or reading about it. Perhaps, it would do him good to go about this kingdom, and see what it's like outside of rooms for royalty. Maybe even venture as far as the town of Kaipo. Not without an escort, or guards, of course." I widened my eyes. Outside? Leave these walls? Father, please...
"Lucius..." My tutor braced himself. Oh, please say yes... "I think that is a wonderful idea! I was actually going to ask if you would excuse Edward from his lessons a month from now so that I could do just that, but since it will be just as well, it will help our prince if it occurs sooner rather than later."
I froze. Did I just hear those words?
Father looked to me. "Come with me, my son."
I followed behind Father until he stopped, and turned back to face Lucius. "And Lucius?" The tutor looked up. "Thank you."
Father and I left the library. We walked down the corridor. Before we reached the giant doors, I stopped. Father looked at me.
"Well, Son? Are you ready to see the real world? The world that lives outside of comfort?" I nodded my head meekly. The giant doors opened. "Well, here it is."
With that, he sent two guards to my side before I took my first step into Damcyan, outside of Royal Quarters.
