#8 Growing Up
Started to venture when I was ten,
Saw this world as a beautiful place.
Now eyes open, I see its beauty,
In creative cunnings and lier's gaze.
Naivety was an unknown boon,
Crushed cruelly in very first contact.
Now newly arisen, it knows better,
Doesn't try to rise everytime I react.
Ventured too soon, lost my childhood,
Innocence of the mind dissolved in mist.
Smooth hands soon had calluses,
One reqiures all fingers to make a strong fist.
Should have treasured them,
The wonderful and wistful times.
Now all grown up, childhood reminiscent,
All I do is worry about earning dimes.
Deception and disguise now left hand's trick,
Once upon a time it hurt to conceal.
Childhood's excitement all lost now,
In the burdens of responsibility, never to feel.
