#37 The Phone Call

Hey there,

It's been a while since I last called you,
Clipped words were spoken, terse and few.

And bitter thoughts choked us more than that telephone cord,
But now the sea has calmed down and I gently prod,

The fresh skin over the old wound, I want to talk to you.
Talk about infinite little things just like we used to do.

And listen to your voice, it's rise and falls.
The way we debated over silly things, our tales short and tall.

But now all I hear is plain old static.
Not the richness of your soul, conversations no more hold any magic.

Don't you know I have so much to say?
But all I am is an incomplete puzzle, other piece is M-I-A.

Tear-tracks on my cheeks hold all the unsaid words,
Nobody to listen to them, since you went to the next world.

I lament the last words I screamed to you over the line,
Never knew we'd never talk again like two besties fine.

My friend, please pick up your phone in the heaven, just for a minute or two,
I want to talk to you, don't you want to talk to me too?

***

A fight between two best friends is even worse than fight between two lovers. Don't you agree?
The one who was with you through the thick and thin, without whom your day seems incomplete and empty.
I, for one, cannot imagine a day without my best friend to talk to. What about you?
