Chapter Seven

Chloe’s POV

I glared at him and  he smiled.

Okay…I’m his girlfriend. I met him four days ago, and now I’m his girlfriend? Okay!

Without notice, the names of these people were being thrown at me. I took mental notes on each person.

Calum : Tanned skin

Georgia : Calum’s girlfriend

Luke : Lip ring, quiffed hairstyle

Vanessa : Luke’s girlfriend

Michael : Colourful hair, no girlfriend 

I shook their hands and greeted them politely.

Today, Isabel’s parents are FINALLY leaving, but that’s not the reason that I’m slowly drowning in a pool of tears.

They are taking Isabel with them. They fear that the humans will find us and dissect us for real, so they are taking her away from Australia to go live in America. AMERICA!!!!!

I stood at the window and scowled at the movers truck that sat out front. It was fully packed and Izzy was leaving in ten minutes.

I can’t believe this. We have been almost like sisters since the day our lives were altered into this new life of being a mermaid……

*Flashback*

I sat on my old surf board and watched ANOTHER amazing wave soar past me. I’m scared to catch one. They seem way to big for me.

The small after math of each one passing by caused my board to rock a bit. Behind me, I heard the water being splashed as if someone was paddling up to me.

I was right.

Her long fiery red hair stuck to her chest as she struggled to make her way over to me. “Hi, O’m Isabel. I saw you out here all alone, and we’ll….here I am!” I recited my name shyly and shook her hand. “Whadda you say we ditch these dumb mocking waves and explore what’s out there!” I didn’t respond, but she took that as a yes.

“So where are your parents?” her eager tone lightened my face.

“They died when I turned 16.”

She smiled sympathetically. “Life is short, so cherish every moment. When you lose a part of it, take that part and hold it close to your heart” I thought about what she said and began to swim.

We were about a mile or two off shore and i looked down into the water. A strange golden glow sparkled deep in the water. “Look!” I pointed at the light and her eyes widened. “Wanna swim down?’ shrugging my shoulders, I nodded. “Why not?”

Ditching the surfboards, we swam deeper and deeper.

We could finally see that the glow was coming from a set of shiny gold gates. A large ‘Z’ was embedded in the gold bars.

I looked at Isabel and she nodded. We swam up to them and tugged on them desperately. I could tell she was quickly running out of breath so I pointed up and we began to make our way to the top. Before we could escape the light of the golden gates, a shield like thing blocked us from the surface. A cloud of black ink formed, and then disbanded. There stood before us, was the great and powerful Zeus.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!

The anxiety rushing through us caused the last bubbles of air we stored to escape our lungs and we passed out. The next day, I woke up in my bathtub. Strange.

I looked around and spotted a fish tail sticking out of the water.

WTF!?!?!?!?!?!??!

I’ma fish!!!

I grabbed my phone and found it had been ringing.

“H-hello?” I stuttered

“You a fish too?” ….Isabel

“Yeah” *sigh*

*End Flashback*

I smiled at the memory, and then it turned to a frown she I spotted Isabel heading towards me with the last box in her hands. She set it down and smiled, a tear running down her pale cheeks.

“I promise to come back one day.” I wiped a tear off my eye and pulled her in for a hug. “Don’t ever forget me, because I will never forget you.” She pulled back and gave me a smile before saying a line that she said when we first met and will stay with me forever.

““Life is short, so cherish every moment. When you lose a part of it, take that part and hold it close to your heart.”
