Chapter One

Chloe's POV

"Chloe! Hurry up in there! Your tail will shrivel up into a prune!" My bath water shook relentlessly as Isabel began to bang on the bathroom door. Isabel is my best friend, but we're basically sisters. And yes, you heard that right........I have a tail, for I am a mermaid. No I do not summon males into the water and sentence them to their doom. I just charm them with my mesmerising green eyes and charming smile. I'm vain. Ok! Deal with it. 

My tail flapped with attitude, the scarlet scales reflecting the sunlight into a disco ball pattern of the floral walls of my bathroom.

"Alright! I will be out in a minute! Gosh! Calm your banging and your tits Izzy!" I released the water in the tub and grabbed a towel. Before I knew it, my tail vanished, revealing my pink and blue flowery dungarees. A white v-neck top underneath and a baby blue flower crown on my head. Looking in the mirror, I admire my brown hair. Cherry red streaks shimmering brighter than ever in the morning light that poured in through the window.

I opened the door and was met with an impatient Isabel with her arms crossed over her chest. "I thought you'd be sucked down the drain!" We both laughed. "We better get going. Wouldn't want to waste our swim time!"

When we drove to the beach in our purple jeep, we saw a lot of the usual beach comers with their well used surf boards and stretched out wet suits. A group of boys caught our eye. "Oh Chloe! I've heard about them! They're new here." My mouth formed an 'o' shape; as in, I don't really care. "They sing at the coffee shop down the road. Rumour has it that they're not half bad". She nudged my rib cage playfully. I shook my head doubtfully. "Not going to happen, Izzy." She moaned with 'I'm complaining' written all over her forehead. "Come on Chloe. Ever since you dated that jack ass, Neptune, you've been a hermit crab. Come out of your shell. Love awaits you!" Those were the last words she said before diving in the cool ocean water. I glanced behind me at the group of boys chatting about life and normal things. I wish I were normal.

I dove in after Isabel, to be forgotten within the tide. I swam deeper and deeper as the floor descended so I wouldn't be seen by the surfers above. Finally, after a long fifteen seconds, my human legs glued themselves together against my will and formed a hot scarlet masterpiece. With my tail, I picked up speed to catch up to Isabel. I finally found her as her sparkling purple tail lit up the ocean floor. Her gleaming fiery red hair danced in the water as her tail gracefully glided through the water.

Calum's POV

"Come on, mates, why can't we head out now and get this whole boat trip over with? I don't want to be out there when it gets dark....that's when the mermaids come out!" I tried to scare the boys into getting on the boat quicker, but my statement was only returned with laughter.

The boys finally gave in after five minutes of me begging and pleading. We readied our boat and headed out to sea.

As soon as we were far enough, Michael threw out the anchor and dove right in. The rest of the boys followed leaving me alone. I sat in the sun, with my arms and legs sprawled across the floor of the boat and rested.

After about an hour of complete silence and boredom (for me anyways), the boys shook the boat awake by violently climbing on. I stood on the side and gazed into the water as the boys talked about the day. Suddenly, I noticed a shark fin appear. It passed by silently. My knees began to feel weak and I could feel myself blacking out. I grabbed the edge of the boat and stupidly leaned over, earning me an unwanted visit into the ocean. I plunged into the water, my lungs filled with salty H2O. I gasped for air, causing me to sink further. I looked up to see the lads peering over the sides of the boat; panicking. I saw Ashton dive in, but swam back up, as I was too far down. Blackness rushed over me, cutting out my vision and brain. I gasped when my eyes caught sight of a majestic glowing scarlet tail move smoothly through the water and towards me. I couldn't hold on any longer. I shut my eyes, never to open them again.

Chloe's POV

After a good half hour, Isabel insisted that she had to meet with her parents for dinner, so I swam on without her.

I gazed the bottom of the sea, admiring the rainbow of coral that lay flat on this endless terrain. I glanced up to seek the beautiful shine of the sun, but saw a body. It slowly floated lifelessly towards the ocean floor. I swam closer to the human; cautious to make sure he was fully 'lights out' so I wouldn't be discovered. He looked familiar. I thought through my day quickly and paused to before I went in the water. He was one of the four boys on the beach!

I wrapped my arms around his waist and swam to the surface. I was greeted by three panicked looking boys, who now had huge eyes of an owl. They were speechless at the sight of my tail....and the fact that I was a mermaid. I simply hoisted the body onto the boat and put my index finger to my lips and quietly shushed as a symbol to keep this a secret.

I sank back into the water, leaving the boys wondering.
