Chapter 3👑
June 18.
Kano, Nigeria
Jannah and Ummul Khulsum walked out of their lectures hall and head in the direction of their hostel. The two both offer the same course. While Jannah is simply studying the course considering BUK doesn't offer the course she wanted, Khulsum lived for that course.
Jannah was okay with it though. She believed that maybe that's the best course for her to study, that's why Allah made it so.
A girl of seemingly the same age as the duo approached them. She was pretty much the same height as Jannah, considering the fact that Jannah is taller than Khulsum, and had on a turquoise long hijab. There's this warm smile masking her features which emitted politeness.
"Assalamu alaikum" She stretched her hand out for a handshake.
"Wa alaikissalam" The two replied, taking turns to shake her hand.
The woman grinned. "My name is Salimah Omer. I'm the head of this school's Support for Women Group established by JM and I was wondering if maybe you'd like to join? We help sisters whom need help the best way we can by organizing enlightenment campaigns and using our voices to make a difference for the female child" She said handing them a flier which contains the details of the association.
"Oh wow. That's very nice of you" Ummul Khulsum said, a small grin taking over her features. She had always been fond of helping others so it's a natural response for her to be interested in that.
"It really is" Jannah nodded in agreement.
Salimah smiled, appreciating their response. "Thank you. You two are new students right?" She rose a brow.
"Yes"
"Yeah we are"
"Great! Would you two mind joining the association? We are in need of more members. I mean, the more the merrier right? You two can help make a huge difference in the lives of our fellow sisters out there who feels they're alone, those whom were restricted the right to study because the kind of society they live in deem that female's education is not important" Salimah explained professionally with so much passion as if this is what she wants to do her entire life, help fellow sisters in need.
"Of course I'd love to join" Ummul Khulsum was quick to reply. She wasn't planning on letting an opportunity like that slip away without her at least trying her best.
"Yeah me too" Jannah nodded.
"Thank you so much, our first meeting for this year is tomorrow at the auditorium" Salimah explained, a grin taking over her features.
"In shaa Allah we'll be there"
"Let me help you spread the word" Ummul Khulsum offered. When Salimah agreed, the two left together to help spread the word about the association.
Jannah was left alone to go back to the hostel since she was exhausted. She was close to reaching the hostel when someone grabbed her wrist. She swiveled around to see who the person was. Instantly, her nose flared as she glared at the person. "Let go of my hand" She said through gritted teeth.
"Haba Jannah sarauniyar mata. Just please give me your phone number. I've been asking you since in the morning. Wallahi son ki nakeyi, kin mallake min zuciya" A guy that had been pestering her since morning said.
She resisted the urge to gag.
The man by the looks of it is clearly bad news. He had a bushy afro hair, orange colored teeth, and from his breath you can perceive the disgusting scent of cigarette. His eyes are bloodshot red which he covered with a black shade, otherwise known as no respect glasses which made him look like people from the early 1900s. He had on a dirty white shirt which says 'I'm a bad boy' and a blue crazy ripped jeans.
How a person like that became a student there? She still wondered. However, she's sure he'd be the modern, human form of Gabata Musa. She wouldn't be surprised if that's his name. The only difference might be that Gabata wouldn't be as dirty as he is.
Then again, it's Gabata we're talking of here. Nothing is surprising when it involves him. His 0.02 CGPA speaks for itself.
"I'm sorry I can't" She tried to get her hand out of his grip but he wasn't letting it go.
She tried again, but he's naturally much stronger than she is.
"Keh dan kinsamu ma ina miki magana. Nace kibani lambar waya taki ko!" He half yelled, getting irked by her consistent rejection towards him. He had been trying to get her number since he first saw her in the morning yet the girl refuses to spare him a second glance.
Jannah winced when he held her wrist tighter. She's sure that he might've left a bruise there.
Suhad who stopped by BUK to get his younger brother, Deen, who has this weird love for the university he doesn't attend, stopped in his tracks. From where he stood, he could see some guy holding a girl's hand. Normally, he wouldn't interfere but it's obvious the girl was trying to get her hand out of the guy's grip.
And that infuriated him. He had always hated men who act such way towards women. Men who do not respect women's wishes.
Without a second though, he made his way over to them. All the while, he ignored the girls that stopped by to look at him. He didn't have time for them—never had and never will. He might be a player, but he knows the type of women he plays.
The minute he was in close range to the two, he yanked the man away from Jannah. The man stumbled back, not expecting anyone to do that to him. When he regained his composure, he pivoted around to glare at Suhad. Jannah on the other hand took that as her cue to get as far away from the two as possible.
As Suhad made eye contact with the guy, he instantly remembered him as guy to be whom the students there call 'Scorpion'. He's always picking up a fight with Deen who never backed down. Their fights are always similar to what Suhad just witnessed. The man had a thing for going after pretty girls.
Scorpion was quick to try and punch Suhad. Keyword; try.
Their fist fight happened so quickly that Jannah couldn't tell what was going on. All she could see was that Scorpion is the one that being beaten up and not the other way round.
"Do you think you have the right to treat women like that?" Suhad asked, grabbing a fistful of Scorpion's collar.
"S—S—Suhad" Scorpion chocked out wide eyed. The fear in him slowly building up. He messes around with Deen all the time but not Suhad. He knew not to mess with Suhad or his best friend, Prince Aamir. Anyone that has sense knows that. "I'm so sorry. Wallahi I didn't see it was you"
"Why are you apologizing to me?" Suhad raised a brow, eyes narrowed at Scorpion in slits. "Apologize to the woman you had been disturbing"
Scorpion immediately shot his head to Jannah's direction "I'm so sorry Jannah. P--please forgive me"
Jannah could only nod. She didn't think that anyone could make Scorpion that way.
Suhad let go of Scorpion, his eyes still narrowed at the man.
Scorpion immediately packed his slippers and no respect and ran for his life. The students who gathered around seeing the show that unfolded laughed at Scorpion being a coward. They highly doubt if he'd do that to any girl ever again.
Then again, it's Scorpion. They wouldn't be surprised if he goes after another girl later that day.
Suhad turned around to look at Jannah. "Are you Ok?" Heasked with a small smile on his face, as he approached her.
"Yes"
He chuckled in relief. "Alright. He wouldn't bother you anytime soon Jannah".
She could only nod.
"Take care" He offered her a smile, before he turned around to walk away.
"Wait!" She called out, making him stop in his tracks. "Your name please?"
He turned around. "Suhad. Alamin Suhad"
She nodded again, and watched him walk away. All she could think of at the moment though was...
Do fairytale knights in shiny armors do exist? If yes, then he'd be the modern day Knight. That she's sure of.
