Chapter 8: Home
Choi Soobin never had the time to fall in love and means; he doesn’t know how it feels like. All his life, he just witnessed his parents working their ass off until they had a food on the table. All his life, he just witnessed how loan sharks come and take what they have if his parents can pay anything.
Soobin doesn’t have any friends at all. Probably because he doesn’t talk much nor react at anything. He’s invisible in his classmates’ eyes and no one will notice his presence unless he speaks.
But at this moment, at this point, he seems sensible. It seems someone finally see him as him, it feels like finally he won’t just witness some painful scenario but a great one— the greatest of all.
“Yeonjun’s brain has been constantly having brainwaves. What a good news! I wonder what they are doing inside their dreams!” Dr. Kim explained while looking at the EEG, hands clasp.
“Soobin’s heartbeat is still abnormal as usual but this one’s the calmest of all,” Dr. Park added and smiles. “Right, I wonder what they are doing.”
Hueningkai just purses his lips and thought, “Just be fine, Soobin. Please.”
Yeonjun continued kissing the other. Both hands are already getting wrapped around each other’s body. Yeonjun changes their location in an instant and laid Soobin on a bed. Soobin on the other hand didn’t mind such gesture, he just kissed him back, letting him.
“What’s this…” Yeonjun whispered, nose touches each other. “I feel like I wanted to do more,” he added.
“Stop,” Soobin disagreed. “It’ll be a big problem in the real world,” he said and chuckles.
Yeonjun just laugh as well and kissed Soobin’s forehead. “Right, we shouldn’t. I’m sorry,” he apologized.
Soobin takes a seat and observed where they are. There’s nothing but a bed on the clouds. “Let’s just do it when you wake up,” he joked.
“Wake me up now,” Yeonjun answered right away and they both laugh. He takes a seat beside Soobin. “Tell me… who was that man? What did I saw?”
“It was me…”
“Huh?”
Soobin parted his lips to release some air before speaking again. “It’s like my own grim reaper trying to remind me that I’m going to die sooner… Well, he’s the exchanged of what I’ve done before.”
“Exchanged? What do you mean by that?” Yeonjun asks, frowning.
“I actually didn’t know how to lucid dream it started when I witnessed how these gang loan sharks killed them to pay their debt off in front of me. So, that’s when I started hallucinating and having nightmares and then I feel like I wanted to change those nightmares into the beautiful ones and at the young age, I did,” Soobin tells his story.
“Wait,” Yeonjun looked at him. “Are they the family that I always see? You know, I know all the people I created inside my dream but when you came, they suddenly appeared too! And I saw them in your dreams too, the happy family!” he exclaimed.
Soobin smiles, “Right, it’s them. I always keep them with me. The last reason why I wanted to survive and live,” he confirms. “Then one night, I just felt greedy. Like, I’m so alone, you know? So, I wanted to have the justice that my parents deserve. In my dream, I meet an old man and decided to deal with him… That I’m going to kill those bastards who killed my parents,” his jaw clenched.
Yeonjun holds his hand and gave him a reassuring smile. “Take your time, calm down. I’m listening.”
Soobin nods and exhales, “I killed them. I visited their dreams and started manipulating everything that in reality… people will see it as sleep paralysis,” he scoffs. “I’m such a bad kid, right?”
“Nope!” Yeonjun quickly disagreed that made Soobin’s eyes pin on him. “They deserve it. They did worst. They killed a family, they killed your childhood, your innocence, and your way of living… they basically killed you too. So, they deserve it. You did what’s right.”
Soobin felt like crying. All this time, guilt is eating him up after doing such horrible thing and he’s been bringing those baggages with him as he lives each day.
Soobin looked away to hide his tears. “I… I thought that old man just granted my wish but… but it comes with a price and that is this,” Soobin pointed his chest. “To have this sickness to slowly kill me and that man is also me who’s telling me I can’t escape death,” he bit his lip. He’s stopping himself from crying but suddenly arms envelop him.
“It’s okay… You’re going to live. You’re going to take me home and then you’re going to live. Okay? Everything will be fine,” Yeonjun consoles, rubbing the back of Soobin.
And Soobin burst in crying which he never does. The trauma he had after witnessing horrible deaths made his eyes stops from doing it but in this dream, he did. He’s been acting strong and he believes he is but right now, he feel so weakened and all his walls break down.
Maybe, thanks to Yeonjun. He finally lets it out.
“I’m not going to let you die, okay? We’re going to get out in here,” Yeonjun continued.
Soobin nods and wipes his tears. “T-thank you,” he expressed. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t cry.”
“Hey! Crying is valid!” Yeonjun scolded him that made Soobin laughs. “Let’s go home together, okay?”
Soobin smiles and nods, “Yes. Let’s go home together. Yeonjun, tomorrow, you’re finally going home.”
“Really!?” Yeonjun exclaimed. “How? You finally know how!?”
Soobin nods, “Yes! I told you I can do it, right? I’ll do everything,” Soobin confirms. “Are you ready to go home?”
Yeonjun hold Soobin’s hand really tight. “Yes, be with me. Let’s go home together, okay?”
“Yes… together…”
