Part 28
Waking up the next morning, the blaring sound of your alarm going off gave you an instant headache.
Your entire body felt so drained and dehydrated, the few hours of sleep you did manage to get never had any chance in hell in bringing you back to life.
Of course you were going to stay up as long as your body could permit last night, searching the deep wide web for anything and everything closely related to BTS's upcoming fan meet which was scheduled for your birthday.
With the impossibility of going already having been established, because it was well beyond anything your broke ass could ever afford, of course your toxic trait of fueling any deep-seated heart-break and disappointment within you had to come into full swing.
Letting out a pained groan as you switched your alarm to snooze for what must have been the millionth time already, you pulled your lethargic legs one after the other out of the comforts of your warm bed.
Ugh...
Is this what I have to look forward to for the rest of my life?
Early mornings and certain misery?
The pain and suffering of adulthood SUCKS.
At least it was Friday...
Stumbling out into your tiny bathroom and staring at yourself in the mirror, you splashed some cold water across your face in the slim hopes that it might revive your death-like complexion, but it proved to be completely useless.
Your diet which mostly consisted of pizza and junk food recently, was really starting to pay its toll, with all of the small red bumps across your forehead sticking out as if they were trying to say hello.
No amount of color-correcting concealer was going to cover up this self-inflicted mess, where the only positive affirmation in this instance was that your masked 'Genius' was presumably still out of the country and too far away from you to be able to see you in this god-awful state.
Despite his unusually talkative mood over the last few days, his return to Seoul was still unconfirmed and a total mystery, which was low-key starting to make you anxious.
That smug bastard better give me some warning before coming back...
Deciding to wear your hair down today with your bangs covering the mess on your forehead, you quickly slapped some makeup on your face in a half-arsed attempt at looking semi-alive and non-contagious.
The rough application at least proving to be helpful in waking you up a little more than before, you were pleasantly surprised in the final outcome of your look for the day.
By the time you arrived at work, it felt like whole hours had passed since you first woke up, sending you the startling signs that today was undoubtedly going to be a very long day.
Ughh....
After setting your bag down and signing into your shift, you begrudgingly dragged your feet back out to the kitchen to get this day over with already.
"Somebody hand this girl a participation award for showing up today!" Ji-eun called out sarcastically after catching a full sight of you.
"No one deserves it more than I! Who even made mornings a thing?" You spat back, smirking at the self-deprecating humor you both share.
As you began opening the shop, you couldn't help but feel so pathetically desperate for missing your masked 'Genius' as much as you did, the feeling only getting worse as you caught yourself glancing at the time on the clock periodically throughout the slow morning work-routine.
You tried your best to keep yourself busy with daily tasks, even going as far as cleaning out the coffee machines, a task you despised above all else.
But it was all in vain.
Despite knowing nothing would happen, you still found yourself tensing up as the clock struck 7:42.
I'm such a sucker.
Groaning audibly, you threw the wet rag you were holding into the stainless steel sink, the loud sound it made being a lot more satisfying than you'd care to admit.
At this moment, Ji-Eun was too busy showing Hana how to process a credit card payment for the trillionth time this week, otherwise you would have grabbed her for the moral support needed to get through this day.
But when you heard the cafe door open, the door chimes ringing didn't even make you flinch as you turned on your heels and walked straight for the front counter.
"Welcome to Moon Cafe, what can I get for you today?"
The speech came out in auto-pilot as you quickly tapped your password into the front counter's computer system.
"A Caramel Frappuccino, please," the familiar sounding voice at the till answered.
Glancing up, your breath hitched in the back of your throat as you caught a glimpse of the person now standing in front of you.
Stood there was a boy with a black mask, mimicking that of Mr. 742 himself, his eyes barely visible from beneath his over-sized bucket hat.
As you stared blankly out at him, you couldn't help yourself from comparing the two.
This boy was taller, that much was blatantly obvious.
He also appeared to be more muscular.... and perhaps younger?
Damn, what is it with the boys around here!?
"I-uh... your name please?" You stuttered, struggling to compose yourself.
"Justin Seagull," the voice immediately answered.
Starting to jot the name down on a takeaway cup, you paused when your brain finally caught up to what he had just said.
Hold on....
Furrowing your brows, your eyes flickered up before you bent down slightly to see if you could catch a glimpse of the boy behind the familiar voice and obviously fake name.
No.
F**king.
Way.
Jungkook!?!?
You felt your eyes grow wide with shock as you stood there stupidly with an empty cup in hand, gaze plastered on the idol apparently standing right in front of you.
"Y-You're... J-Jungk..." You broke out, your voice completely failing on you in this moment.
This isn't happening right now.
"Oh crap!" The boy replied panicked, averting his gaze from you, "You caught me! Hyung is going to be so angry with me..."
You didn't know how to respond to anything, you just stood there, watching The Golden Maknae panic silently to himself.
"Was I really that obvious?" The idol asked, removing his hat and flashing his puppy eyes directly at you.
Holy sh*t.
"Yes," you blurted out, immediately smacking you hand over your mouth the minute the word left your lips.
You tried to summon whatever strength you had to not completely freak out on the spot, afraid your racing heart was going to burst straight out of your chest.
How is this even happening to me.
I'm in the presence of a literal god.
This is some real fan fiction sh*t, this isn't real life.
Jeon f**king Jungkook came into my workplace and no one will ever believe me.
While you were so desperately trying to play it cool, you didn't even realize you had started hyperventilating.
F*ck.
"Is everything okay over here?" Ji-eun cut in, walking up to the front counter after seeing you in your obviously distressed state.
"Ah-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you..." Jungkook apologized, removing his face-mask to reveal his concerned face and placing his over-sized bucket hat on the front counter.
And it was in this moment that you realized that all of his photographs never did him justice.
You watched on as Ji-eun's facial expressions changed, her body tensing up as the sudden realization hit her.
"Y/N... A-Am I dreaming? Is Jungkook in our cafe right now?" Ji-eun whisper-yelled beside you. "What do we do?"
"Yes. Holy sh*t. Breathe. Just breathe," you wheezed back, still completely frozen in your place.
The 'Jungshook' look on his face could only tell you that he was by no means anticipating this kind of attention when he decided to get his caramel frappuccino this morning, but he was low-key relishing in it at the same time.
Just the fact that your literal idol was standing right before you was sure to send both Ji-eun and yourself to the hospital, but you couldn't even be mad about it.
This is the only way I want to die...
Clearing the silence in the air, he began to open his mouth and all you wished was for time to slow down so you could hold onto this moment forever.
"Please don't tell anyone I was here!" He whispered innocently, scrunching his nose up as he flashed his adorable bunny smile at you, "Manager doesn't like it when I go off on my own..."
You didn't know how to respond in words, dumbly nodding your head up and down in unison with Ji-eun, the blindingly perfect sight of his smile almost completely knocking you off your feet.
"B-but I thought BTS wasn't returning to Seoul until Sunday?" You asked, your curiosity coming out of you without a second thought.
"We were, but there was a change in plans.. One of the hyungs was missing something so we had to come back early," he carefully answered, trying his best not to spill too much information.
"I bet it was Tae missing Yeotan," Ji-eun indiscreetly whispered to you.
Makes sense...
"You know I can hear you, right?" Jungkook chuckled at the pair of you, rummaging his hands through his pockets for something.
"Here," he said, holding a handful of change out for you to take. "For my drink?"
It took you a few seconds for you to catch up to reality and remember that you still actually had a job to do.
"O-oh, you don't need to pay for that..." you insisted, lowering your head to the ground and averting your gaze. "It's on the house."
What kind of a monster would knowingly charge Jungkook...
He's practically royalty.
"Thanks Noona!" he bounced up and down adorably, shoving his loose change back into his pocket.
For someone who probably had the fortune and power to buy this whole cafe and the neighboring apartment complex out-right, you couldn't help but smile ear to ear over how happy a free frappuccino could make him.
But wait...
"N-Noona?" Ji-eun asked, slight shock apparent in her voice.
Does he really think we're older than him..?
Do we really look that bad?
Have my massive eye-bags and poor make-up skills betrayed me again?
"You know, we're the same age," you smiled sheepishly back at the boy, feeling your face blush wildly over how ridiculously terrible and underslept you must look right now.
"Ah-I'm sorry. I-I didn't mean it like that... I'm just so used to everyone treating me like the youngest..." Jungkook replied, awkwardly scratching at the back of his neck.
"D-Don't sweat it!" Ji-eun chirped back instantly, still awestruck over her bias-wrecker standing directly in front of her.
"Don't sweat it...?" You whispered back at her, struggling to keep yourself from bursting out laughing.
You've never heard her say that before in your entire life.
"Shut up," She snarled back at you through gritted teeth.
Not wanting to keep Jungkook waiting any longer, you quickly spun around and headed over to the blender to get his drink order under-way.
By the power of BTS and K-pop...
I WILL make this boy the best damn frappuccino he's ever had!
You must have been so determined in dazzling the maknae's taste-buds, hoping and praying it would be so good that he might come back again in the future with the rest of his band-mates, that you may have blacked out a little from the level of concentration you were putting into making his order.
Before you knew it, you were back at the front counter and handing the frozen drink over to him, his hand grazing ever so slightly against yours making all of the hairs on the back of your neck instantly stand up.
I am NEVER washing this hand again....
"Thank you so much!" he beamed, once more flashing his signature bunny smile at the pair of you.
"A-Any time!" Both Ji-eun and yourself called back out in unison, the smiles on your faces as big as humanly possible.
"We saw the announcement for your next fan sign yesterday," Ji-eun pouted, handing out a free cookie for Jungkook to take back with him. "We would have given anything to be able to go, especially since it will be on (Y/N)'s birthday... but we realized we're far too brok- OUCH"
As soon as it registered to you what Ji-eun was trying to say, your foot came crashing down on hers, sending out an emergency signal for her to shut her mouth and save you both the humiliation of your idol learning just how pathetically lame and broke the pair of you really are.
But it was probably already too late for that.
"Uh- It's fine though! We'll just save up for the next one!" you blurted out, hoping it might save the damage that was already caused.
"It's your birthday then? It must be destiny!" Jungkook answered excitedly, his face now glowing adorably over his free desert. "I really hope I can see you both there! B-But I better get going now, before I get into any more trouble.."
"O-Of course! Thank you so much for coming!" Ji-eun let out in a high-pitched squeel. "Come back, ANYTIME!"
And bring your friends with you...
After taking a bite out of his free cookie, Jungkook politely bowed his head at the pair of you, before re-applying his black face-mask and over-sized bucket hat, once more concealing his identity to the world around him.
As he sent out one last enthusiastic wave before leaving the cafe, his phone began ringing, answering it just in time for you to catch the first few words spoken.
"Hyung, I'm sorry I-"
And just like that, he was gone.
