Part 19

For the rest of the day you avoided your phone like the plague, too afraid of what may or may not be there waiting for you.

You returned back to the cafe as soon as your pounding heart would permit, not wanting to let your team down in the crappy morning rush hour.

Or face the wrath of your money-driven manager.

But when you came back, you were quick to notice that both of the boys had already gone.

Of course they would be gone.

Why on Earth would they hang around just for me...

Ji-eun had practically witnessed your whole outburst from a distance.

And then running away from the cafe like that? All over some masked and unidentifiable boy no less.

The look on her face could only express just how worried she was for you.

She explained that she was so frantically trying to call you and serve customers all at the same time, that she hadn't even seen when the boys left.

The adrenaline of the whole ordeal was still pulsing through your ears, even after cooling off at the nearby park for 30 minutes, leaving you with an awful gut-retching feeling in the pit of your stomach.

Skipping breakfast this morning really wasn't helping.

As you replayed the situation over and over in your head, you realized no amount of reason or logic was going to help you right now.

All of those feelings of frustration and confusion being completely overshadowed by hurt and fear in this moment.

This has to be the worst day ever...

-

By the next morning you had miraculously worked up the courage to check your phone, deep down hoping to find some long-winded explanation from your 'Genius', or some form of apology.

Some kind of anything...

You took a deep breath, holding it in as you switched on your phone, growing slightly impatient over how long the start-up screen was taking to load.

After what felt like forever, your phone was finally on and functioning, with a flood of messages coming through all at once.

You scanned the contact names in the sea of notifications for 'Not Yoongi', with an increasing threat of disappointment.

Apart from the odd Domino's pizza coupon, all of the others were from Ji-eun checking up on you to see if you were okay.

As it dawned on you, your stomach dropped and the sudden thought of pizza was surprisingly unhelpful.

Feeling yourself teetering towards a downward spiral, you tried your best to pull yourself together, offering the only bit of reassurance you could muster.

At least you didn't get some nasty messages of abuse from him??

Look on the bright side.

This isn't the end of the world...

Yet.

You tried reflecting on the previous day, now slightly cringing over how public and dramatic you made everything.

There's a small possibility that you may have over-reacted a little, but it was still kind of justified.

Just how long was he expecting you to so willingly play along with his little game anyways?

You really hadn't done anything wrong.

But still..

Was he really as mad as he looked?

Was all of that anger actually directed at me?

Curse his damn mask and not ever being able to see through to his emotions.

You managed to get ready for work in a rush, your body working on auto-pilot as your troubled mind was seemingly elsewhere, choosing not to spare any extra energy in trying to pass off as barely alive this morning.

You let out a final groan of frustration as you tied your sneakers up, hastily slamming your apartment door shut behind you.

Walking into work a little earlier than usual, you came with low expectations.

So accustomed to the routine of seeing him each morning at 7:42 am, you felt terrified about what you might encounter this time.

The cafe was already filled with BTS blaring so loudly, you could almost feel it bouncing off the walls.

It was a small touch that almost curled the corners of your lips into a smile, had they not already been so heavily weighed down by your pathetic state.

Damn...

Even the power of Bangtan can't fully lift my mood today.

You took in a deep sigh before walking through the rest of the cafe, until you were forced to a stop, pinned in place and unable to move.

Hana had practically rocket-launched herself directly at you as means of a good morning hug, immediately knocking you back to reality.

"Unnie!"

You let out a muffled whimper as you tried to breathe, her near choke-hold blocking most of your airways.

For such a small girl, how is she so strong??

She finally let go of you after your desperate attempt at tapping out, never before thinking how amazing it felt to breathe as you let all of the oxygen flow back into your lungs.

"G-good morning Hana," you choked back in response as you tried to regain your balance.

"Hey B*tch!" you heard Ji-eun yell out to you from the opposite side of the cafe, her voice so loud it practically pierced in your ears.

You braced for impact as she stormed out from behind the kitchen counter and headed your way.

"Guess I'm just another f*ckboy and it doesn't bother you to ignore my messages all night!" She huffed as she stopped right before you.

"Sorry girl," you dragged out your apology, bowing your head down in guilt. "I had my phone switched off all night."

It must have taken Ji-eun 0.5 seconds to completely change her tone, reading the look on your face as if she knew exactly how you were feeling.

"Is it that bad, huh?" she said in a worried tone, placing her hand around one of your shoulders. "Have you two talked since yesterday?"

A deep sigh left you as you shook your head no in response.

"I'm sure it's not as bad as you think it is," Ji-eun tried whispering reassuringly. "These things never are."

"Thanks," you mumbled back, knowing you should trust her words but finding it near impossible to in this moment.

Flinging your bag off your shoulders, you dragged your feet down to the back room to sign into the start of what felt like a heckin' awful shift.

Time was slowly crawling to when your masked 'Genius' should appear and you hadn't even mentally prepared yourself for what might happen.

It seemed near impossible seeing as none of the scenarios that were playing through your head all morning looked remotely good.

Chill (Y/N)...

I'm sure he's not going to throw hot coffee right at you...

You couldn't help but watch the clock as it drew to the last minute, counting down the seconds in anticipation until finally...

...

Nothing.

...

The cafe was totally empty and the air was still.

As the stereo paused between songs, it became so eerily quiet that you might even hear a pin drop.

Your eyes remained fixed on the front door in a hopeless state and as each minute passed, you felt a little piece of your heart start to ache a little more.

Where is he...

Is this the end?

-

As you lay awake in bed that night, unable to take your eyes off your phone screen, you felt completely empty.

It was well past your bedtime, however you couldn't help but wonder how or why he couldn't have said something or come into the cafe this morning...

Or done anything at all for that matter, to indicate whatever the hell was going on.

Because this was actually driving you insane.

Not that I wasn't crazy to begin with...

As your mind fell into an unrecoverable state of over-thinking, an idea finally dawned on you.

Up until now, he had always been the person to initiate everything.

Every single interaction.

And you, always having been too useless and nervous to ever start anything.

But it seemed like you really had nothing to lose now.

Might as well go big or go home...

You bit your bottom lip as you quickly typed out the first thing that came to you, instantly hitting send and hurling your poor phone across the room before your fluttering heart was able to change its mind.

[02:47] Yoongi's Girl💜:

Where are you?

-----

Hi Angels!

How is everyone?

Just wanted to start by yet again, apologizing for how utterly useless I've been with making updates. I'm trying, I really am. I promise haha...
It's a miracle alone that I could find the time these last few weeks to write, having been so consumed by work and everything else, completely sucking me dry. Maybe it's time I make some changes and get a better job or something...

This chapter is dedicated to how depressingly useless I've felt these last few weeks for not being able to update lolll.

Anyways, I hope you're liking it so far! Still lots of changes and things will get better eventually!

Hope you're all doing well, and as much as I'm more absent from here than I would like to be, I'm still here and sending virtual hugs out to all of you, where-ever you are!

Lots of love,
Katie 💜💜💜
