Chapter 7

Kylo

I walk out of hell part two, also known as math class, and think about ditching Paranoia Control 103 and going to the underground dungeons. But my feet seem to have a different opinion as they do carry me to class. I take each step regretting my decision but I take one of the seats at the back, my eyes glued to the door.

Xander suddenly walks into the class and takes the seat beside me even though he is not supposed to be here. He makes weird faces at me, which I completely ignore but he continues anyway. At one point he decided to start poking my shoulder with a pencil but my eyes don't leave the door.

“Are you really here?” Xander asks stupidly. I roll my eyes as I finally give him the attention he wants.

“No. But why are you here?” I reply, snatching the pencil from his hand which was still rhythmically poking me. He blinks at me and looks longingly at the pencil. His eyes look the ones a puppy has when you take away its favorite toy. I try and fail in not letting my mouth pull into a smile.

But Xander makes me want to punch him again. “Waiting for someone? There can't be any other reason you are actually in class. Unless they are giving free popcorn. Are they giving free popcorn?”

“Yes, go to your Introduction to Training Blood Hounds class, maybe you can steal some of Roofus’ popcorn” I wave him off but he just makes himself more comfortable in his desk.

“Nah, those ones aren't salted. Besides Aria is there and she will convince me to help her figure out a plot to kill you for lying to her about waffles.”

My palm meets my face at his words. I don't know what surprises me more, the fact that he stole his dogs popcorn or that Aria is planning murder for food. I choose to ignore the puppy sitting beside me and continue staring at the door. But the puppy doesn't seem to want to shut up. “Who are you waiting for?” Xander asks again.

I open my mouth to answer but I close my mouth once I see Professor I've-never-seen-before enter. I could blame my dead attendance record or I could pretend I’m as crazy as Xander.

“I know none of you completed your assignments of creating new ways to make people paranoid.” He starts off, his voice sounding as old as he looks with his grey hair and pitch black spectacles. Looking right at Xander and I, he continues, “Mr. Alexander Everett, aren't you supposed to be playing with your blood hound right now? And Kylo, good to meet you after half a semester.”

“Yep.” Xander grins, “I’m heading to the cafeteria then.” A few students snicker along with me as he walks out. The professor turns red at his words but he keeps quiet. Xander is an Elite, messing with one of them is too dangerous to try, even for a professor. So obviously he turns his anger on me.

“Here's to hoping you actually get some work done when you're in class Kylo. I don't think you will want to continue failing.” He states before he turns to the blackboard and starts explaining something about the importance of Nomophobia while I completely zone out. I’m totally failing this class Professor I-still-have-no-idea-what-your-name-is.

My eyes keep wandering from my phone hidden between a book to random scribbles on the wall to the door again to check if Aaron is here yet. He never missed a class before, at least as far as I know.

Lost in my daydreams about all the possible excuses Aaron can use to skip class, I almost miss the new notification that pops up in my phone. Congratulations, three new players have joined the game.

The sentence makes me feel sick even though I should be jumping with joy. I never should have come to class. Not even when Aaron offered to help me with the game. I had assumed he would be here and I can talk to him, Professor I’m-totally-ignoring-forever wouldn't be able say anything to Lucifer's own son. But I guess I was just hopeful in the wrong moment with the wrong person.

I sigh and try to pay attention to something except my phone and the door. Between Professor I-can't-believe-he-is-still-talking and the walls covered in weird drawings, I obviously pick the walls.

I yawn again as I finally walk out the class. Professor I’m-sure-he’s-in-hell-for-boring-someone-to-death made the forty-five minute class seem like days. I’m lucky I got out of there alive, or as alive as I can be at least.

This time I walk to the underground dungeons willingly. As much as I love the Art of Blackmail 103 class, I will definitely fall asleep there after going through the traumatic Paranoia class.

I try to be as quiet as possible when I walk down the stairs to the ground floor. It is mostly destroyed from the riot two hundred years ago. Sometimes it is quite easy to forget this place used to be the maximum security prison. I wonder who redecorated this place. They obviously had taste leaving the history on the walls. Or they were underpaid.

Excluding the uncountable tally marks and blood spatters, you can even find the guns and other weapons if you know where to look. Bullets can't kill us, but they sure do hurt, which is another reason why every floor beneath the first one is out-of-bounds. Which is another reason for me to stop coming here, but Xander's craziness seems to be rubbing off.

I just realized I haven't really taken a look around this floor before. It is always just a way to get underground. Instead of taking the staircase behind something that resembles an old statue, I take a walk to the other side. This area has nothing but paintings, which is weird for a prison. But again, Lucifer is weird.

Most of the painting are either Lucifer trying to look cool or Lillith being cool. And some are of the war between heaven and hell, which most people believe was just a myth. And then I find a painting, covered in a frame made of rubies, which just leaves me smiling. Lucifer stands beside Lillith holding their new born son, Aaron, who somehow still looked cute.

“Stop staring.” A voice comes from behind me, “I know I’m adorable.”
