Draco’s POV
The crowds are cheering, people were taking bets. Most people were betting on Krum. I walked around the back of the seats, heading to the tent where the champions stayed. Hermione was there, standing awkwardly and talking to someone through the tent. When she saw me, she gave me a warning look as if to say, “don’t bother him when he’s always nervous,” but that wasn’t going to stop me. I wanted to talk to him.
After a few minutes, Hermione went inside the tent. I then noticed Dumbledore coming around the corner and I hid behind a few seats. I waited until Dumbledore walked into the tent. Hermione came out a few minutes later and looked at me.
“Don’t do anything stupid, Draco. He doesn’t need someone to get in his head. He needs to relax and be prepared.”
“I just want to talk to him…I promise. I won’t do anything to hurt him, I wouldn’t do that, not to him.”
Hermione sighed and pointed to the opening in the tent. “Once Dumbledore leaves, go in. His room is the one of the left closest to the opening.”
I nod and thank her. She leaves and I wait a few more minutes until I hear a cannon go off and the crowd cheer. I hear Dumbledore walk out and once he passes me, I walk into the tent. Krum was sitting in his room so I walked into Harry’s.
“What are you doing?” Harry questioned when I closed the thin fabric to Harry’s room.
“I just wanted to wish you luck…and the joke about you in this…It was stupid and rude. I believe in you. I know you’ll do great.” Harry smiled softly and hugged me. I hugged him back and kissed his head. “I want to tell you something else…I was the one who made the badges. I made it in an upset rage and it was cruel. I’m sorry.”
Harry laughed softly. “It’s okay. You weren’t wearing one so I don’t care.
I smiled and looked at his face. There were tears. I wiped them with my thumbs and smile at him. “Don’t cry.”
“I’m just scared…”
“You’re the bravest boy I know, Potter. Plus, if you need something to lighten the mood to get you thinking good thoughts. You can always picture me as a ferret. I saw you laughing at me, Potter. Wanting me to be a ferret for good, do you?”
Harry laughed softly and nodded. “I think you would have made a cute pet. You’d probably bite though.”
I spent the remaining time with Harry, cuddled in his bed and kissed him. It wasn’t until a few minutes ago, I noticed how quiet the tent got. I opened the curtain to Harry’s room and see everyone gone.
“Harry, I’m going to sit in the seats…Okay? I’ll be cheering for you from there. Please, be careful.”
He nodded and hugged me before going back to sit on his bed. I kissed him quickly before turning and leaving. I sat in my seat next to Blaise. Blaise raised his eyebrow at me and smiled. “How was he?”
“He’s okay. He’s nervous, that’s for sure, but I think I eased the nerves for a little.”
He hummed and looked back out into the pit where the dragon was. I didn’t pay attention until I heard Dumbledore over the loudspeaker. “Three of our champions have now faced their dragons and so each one of them will proceed to the next task. And now our fourth and final contestant.”
Harry enters the rocky arena. I was now laser focused on him. The crowd is cheering his name. He sees the golden egg sitting alone, he makes a run for it but the dragon appears. My heart drops as he gets in front of him. Harry's forced to retreat behind a rock as the dragon flames him. Harry stumbles and falls around the arena.
“No… Come on, Harry.”
Blaise put his arm around my shoulder and sighed. “You’re okay, he’s going to be okay.”
I then see Harry appear behind one of the rocks. He waves his wand but I don’t see anything happen. I panic and watch as he hides again. That wasn’t until I heard a loud sound from behind us. I turn and see Harry’s broom. Harry summoned a broom. He jumps on and flies off, the dragon gives chase. The dragon bursts through the crowd, braking it’s chain that kept it in the arena.
Harry and the dragon disappeared. My heart was racing. I needed to know he was okay.
The crowds are mostly silent. We see Harry flying towards us and the crowd erupts. He goes straight for the golden egg.
“YES! I knew you could do it!” I shouted, even though no one could hear me over the shouting and screaming.
“That’s your boy.” Blaise smiled.
The next day, I was sitting with my friends at the Slytherin table in the Great Hall. I looked at Harry and saw him looking over at Cho. When she looks back he spills drink from his mouth. I was confused. Was it because he was trying to be funny? A young boy walked up to them holding a package. It confused me. The kid gave the package to Ron, who was sitting with Hermione and Harry. I didn’t even know they were friends again.
The kid stared at Harry and then walked away when Ron said something to him. They talked while Ron opened his package. He held it up and I laughed to myself. It looked like a dress. I could hear the laughter coming from the table which made me smile. I wanted to be able to talk to them though, I wanted to sit by Harry and tell him I was proud of him, but I couldn’t. The rest of the day, I spent with Blaise. Harry was with McGonagall and the rest of the students in his house. It was weird but it was a mandatory meeting.
The next day, I was in the courtyard when I noticed Harry talking to Ron. They looked at a group of girls and smiled at them but the girls just gave them icy glares while walking away. I wanted to know what was going on but I haven’t been able to talk to Harry for days.
We had a small study period in the Great Hall, Snape was one of the professors that were walking around and making sure we got our work done. I sat right across from Harry and his friends, they all seemed to do their best to ignore me which made me upset. Blaise sat next to me and Pansy sat next to him. Remington and Emerson were both sitting down as well but on the opposite side to Fred and George.
I do my work and listen in when I hear Ron start talking.
“This is mad. At this rate we'll be the only ones in our year without dates.” Snape walks past and slaps Ron over the head. “Well, us and Neville!”
“But then again he can take himself.” Harry laughed.
“It might interest you to know that Neville's already got someone.” Hermione added with annoyance.
Ron gasps. “Now I'm really depressed.”
Fred throws Ron a note. Ron read it out loud. "Get a move on or all the good ones will have gone. Well who are you talking then?” He whispered to Fred. Fred smirked and threw another paper to a girl who was sitting across from him. He mouthed the words and she immediately accepted.
I looked up at Harry and smiled softly at him when he looked at me. He smiled and looked down at his work. Ron finally spoke up again with a sigh.
“Well Hermione, you're a girl.”
“Oh well spotted.”
“Come on. It's one thing for a bloke to show up alone. For a girl it's just sad.”
I wanted to step in and say something. I knew Hermione had a date, I knew who it was as well but I didn’t get the chance before she blew up on him.
“I won't be going alone because believe it or not someone's asked me.” Hermione storms off, handing her notebook to Snape before coming back and grabbing the rest of her things. “And I said yes.”
“Bloody hell.”
“Look. We've just got to grit our teeth and do it. Tonight when we get back to the common room, we'll both have partners. Agreed?”
“Agreed.” Harry spoke. I took this as my opening.
“Harry?”
He looked up with a hum, looking directly at him. He then looked at Ron who was glaring at me. Before I had the chance to open my mouth again, Harry shook his head and looked down. I couldn’t tell if he was telling me no like he already knew what I was going to say to him or if he was just telling me to wait until we were alone to talk.
Either way, Snape punished us all. I finished my work and handed it to him with Blaise following my lead. We both walked out.
