Dracos POV:
I walked into class with Remington. He was nervous but also excited and I suspected it had something to do with Andy. They hadn’t talked yet this school year. It’s only been two days but Remington didn’t want to make a bad first impression on Mad-Eye since he scared him.
“Alastor Moody.” Mad-Eye spoke as he wrote his name on the chalkboard in front of the class.
Remington and I were sitting together and he seemed uncomfortable. I tried to get his attention, see what was going on but he didn’t pay attention to me.
“Ministry malcontent. And your new defence against the dark arts teacher. I'm here because Dumbledore asked me, end of story, goodbye, the end. Any questions? When it comes to the dark arts, I believe in a practical approach. But first, which of you can tell me how many unforgivable curses there are?”
“Three sir.” Hermione says before looking down. Remington fisted his jumper in his hands as he tried to not make eye contact with Professor moody.
“And they are so named?”
“Because they are unforgivable. Use of any one of them will…”
“Will earn you a one way ticket to Azkaban. Correct. Now the ministry says you're too young to see what these curses do. I say different! You need to know what you're up against, you need to be prepared, you need to find somewhere else to put your chewing gum other than the underside of your desk Mr Finnigan!”
“Aw no way, the old codger can see out the back of his head.”
Mad-Eye throws the chalk in anger and Remington flinched as it flew right past him.
“So, which curse shall we see first? WEASLEY!”
“Yes…”
“Give us a curse.”
“Well, my dad did tell me about one… The imperious curse.”
“Ahhh yes, your father would know all about that. Gave the ministry quite a bit of grief a few years ago. Perhaps this will show you why.” Mad-Eye pops open a jar with a spider in it. “Hello. What a little beauty.” He uses his wand to send it around the class. “Don't worry. Completely harmless.” The class was unsettled. Remington stayed close to the window, trying to keep out of sight. “But if she bites... she's lethal!”
While everyone was screaming, I laughed. It was funny seeing everyone panicking. “What are you laughing at?” Mad-Eye sends the spider onto my face. I started panicking and Remington tried to get the spider off of me, being gentle with it but then the spider flew once more. “Talented isn't she? What shall I have her do next? Jump out the window? Drown herself?” Mad-Eye has the spider over a bucket of water, it's wriggling.
“Scores of witches and wizards have claimed that they only do did you-know-whose bidding under the influence of the imperious curse. But here's the rub, how do we sort out the liars? Another.. another.. Come on come on. Longbottom is it? Up.” Neville Longbottom stands.
“Professor Sprout tells me you have an aptitude for herbology.”
“There's the um... The cruciatus curse.”
“Correct! Correct! come come. Particularly nasty. The torture curse.” Mad-Eye begins torturing the spider with magic, it squeals.
“Stop it! Can't you see it's bothering him, stop it!” Remington shouted, standing up.
Mad-Eye stops. Neville is disturbed. Mad-Eye picks up the spider which is still making a noise.
“Perhaps you could give us the last unforgivable curse Mr. Kropp.” Remington shook his head. “Avada Kedavra” He casts a spell and the spider disintegrates. “The killing curse. Only one person is known to have survived it. And he's sitting in this room.” He approaches Harry's desk and takes a drink. I wanted to do something but I couldn’t. Just then, it was trim to leave the class.
As the day went on, we walked into the Great Hall. We saw everyone watching people put their names into the Goblet. Remington noticed Harry first and walked up to them, I quickly followed. I sat down next to Harry and Remington sat down near Hermione.
“Hey.” I whisper into Harry’s ear. He blushed and pushed me away lightly.
“Hi -”
The doors burst open as older students came in and were placing their names into the flame while others were applauding, Cedric was one of them. Harry was fixated on him and it made me slightly upset. Why was he so fixated on Cedric, a Hufflepuff at that.
Cedric looked at Harry and smiled. He gave him a small wink before walking to his friends. I glared at him as Harry smiled softly.
“Harry -” I began but Ron spoke up, causing harry to look at him instead of me.
“Eternal glory, be brilliant wouldn't it? In three years from now we'll be old enough to be chosen.”
“Yeah well rather you than me.” Harry laughed softly. The twins come up and everyone cheers. Mainly the Griffindors but others did too. I was confused but went alone, cheering as well.
“Thank you thank you, well lads we've done it.” George says as they climb up onto the seats we were sitting on.
“Cooked it up just this morning.” Fred says as they both lift up a small vile of liquid.
“It's not going to work.” Hermione says with a smirk.
“Oh yeah? And why's that Granger.” Fred asks with a smirk as he sits next to her. I could see them being together but I also see her being with Ron. I wasn’t sure about it though.
“You see this? This is an age line. Dumbledore drew it himself.”
“So?”
“So a genius like Dumbledore couldn't possibly be fooled by something pathetically dimwitted such as an age potion.”
I finally understood what was going on. Everyone was cheering for them because they made an age potion to enter themselves into the tournament.
“That's why it's so brilliant, because its pathetically dimwitted.” George said as he sat down next to Remington and leaned over to Hermione. He smiled and got up again, looking at Fred. “Ready, Fred?”
“Ready, George?”
They then synchronized together like they always do and spoke as one. “Bottoms up!” They drink the potion before jumping inside the age line, and cheer when nothing happens. They put their names in the flame and do a high-five. The flame fires up and they're flung across the room onto the floor. When they get up they have full heads of grey hair and beards.
“You said..” George says as he points at Fred.
“You said..” Fred now was pointing at George.
They roll around fighting on the floor and the crowd cheer. The room suddenly becomes silent as Viktor Krum walks in and puts his name in the flame. He looks at Hermione and she smiles.
The week went on like this, classes, Great Hall, sleep, and repeat. Every single day until Thursday came around. We were walking into the Great Hall because Dumbledore called us in. Everyone was excited trying to figure out who put their names in the cup and who would be likely to get chosen.
“Sit down please. And now the moment you've all been waiting for, the champions selection!” Dumbledore approaches the blue flame and it glows red. A name comes out. Everyone looks on anxiously. “The Durmstrang champion is ... Viktor Krum!” The Durmstrang crowd cheer. Another name comes out. “The champion from Beauxbatons... Fleur Delacour” The Beauxbatons girls cheer as Fleur walks up. Another name comes out. The Hogwarts champion... Cedric Diggory.”
Everyone cheered as he stood up, his friends hitting his back to congratulate him. Cedric walked past us and Harry smiled at him, earning a smile back. Harry cheered as Cedric walked past us and disappeared to the trophy room.
“Excellent! we now have our three champions! But in the end only one will go down in history. Only one will hoist this chalice of champions, this vessel of victory the tri-wizard cup!” People cheer, but the goblet glows red once more and another name flies out. Dumbledore takes it and reads, “Harry Potter. Harry Potter?”
“No... No.” I mumble. “That’s not right. Did you put your name -”
“Harry Potter!”
Harry tried to hide behind me and Ron. I was confused. How could this happen. He was younger than the twins and even they couldn’t trick the goblet.
“Go on, Harry. Harry, for goodness sake.” Hermione grabbed Harry and practically threw him to start walking. Harry slowly walks up. Dumbledore gives him the paper. Voices in the crowd shout out.
“He's a cheat! He's not even nineteen yet.”
